I'd like to think "unexpected" would at least imply the characters are at least more surprising then something as mundane as PKMN or FE.

I mean those are your standard, run of the mill choices people would come to expect for promotion so I wouldn't group them as "unexpected"
Well we won’t know until all 5 characters are shown.

Aww, honey <3

Good thing Star Allies is New Super Mario Bros tier at best, then!
Also great games! Nice to see you've come around.

Anywhoo, as much as I'm excited for Joker, I'm looking forward to the P5S announcement way more. Portable P5 has been a huuuuge deal for me, so I'm really hoping it truly is coming.

If anyone can name a video game song that's objectively better than the "Rayman 3" credits theme, I will eat my shorts.

No, you gotta talk about it as if it’s already confirmed!

You gotta speak it into reality!

I mean I know it’s pure fanservice, but I liked that they made playable characters out of Marx, Adeline, Magolor, etc.
I absolutely love the dream friends, but they didn't fix the main issue with the game. It felt too plain and bland, with little variety or difficulty.

I mean, that’s not all that’s been said.

Based on this, he specifically says something about “Bringing characters into Smash” that are “unique, different”, and that Joker is “emblematic of that approach”.

While surely, a Gen 8 Pokémon could be “unique, different”, it’s not quite the same as how Joker is unique and different. At least, I don’t interpret it as, “Joker is emblematic of an approach in which we pick more Nintendo characters”.

But that’s my opinion, at least.
A Nintendo character from an existing franchise can absolutely be unique and different.

Piranha Plant is the absolute proof of that.

If anyone can name a video game song that's objectively better than the "Rayman 3" credits theme, I will eat my shorts.
Final boss theme of McDonald's Treasure Land Adventure.

Now eat those damn shorts.

You're joking, but I'm being DEAD SERIOUS

I do not stand for disrespect for NSMBDS, that game was one of the best 2D Mario games ever made, and that's just for the Blue Shell alone.
Anyone who disrespects that game gets the glock

You ever find it weird that bowser the fire breather never gets a projectile fireball despite it being the one thing he consistently does in every Mario... ever?

The series has fantastic level design. Only reason people hate it is because of the unfortunately cheaper looking artstyle and because they were a frequent release for a while. People just got a little burnt out, which is a shame, because the whole series is really good classic Mario platforming (especially NSMB U).

That's my approach to Jill.

I'm already labbing her as we speak.

I don't think he used it in Odyssey, but that's it, and Bowser's been in Smash since 2001.

New Super Mario Bros was good stuff. Don't @ me.

Actually please @ me I need attention.
I only dislike the 3ds and Switch ones

Yeah and unique and different doesn’t mean they’re fun either.

Pirahna Plant is the absolute proof of that too.
Glad to see i'm not the only one who didn't find the Plant interesting.

Like everyone sings the character's praises but it's like meh to me. I never even found the Plant Gang meme to be funny either.

The original NSMB was actually a really good game.

The formula just started getting old with each following release
Scott made a good video on it.
NSMB was good, but then they just kept on copying and pasting the game and it got old quick.
Everytime I think of "NSMB", I think of blandness, unoriginality, dullness and boringness.
The games are not bad, they just need more creative thought put in them.

Again, that’s not my point.

As I said, Joker is implied to be “emblematic” of the approach for DLC. A Nintendo character could be unique and different, but it’s not quite the same type of “unique and different” or “unexpected” as Joker.

That’s my point. Let’s be honest, it’s not even the unique and different that means the most, it’s the unexpected. I don’t think anyone saying Fire Emblem or Pokémon are “unexpected” in terms of newcomer DLC could be completely taken seriously at this point.

Nintendo newcomers, maybe something like Piranha Plant, could definitely be unexpected. But I simply don’t think they’re going to do that with paid DLC.
