The only thing is, Reggie specifically said that Joker characterized the approach of DLC this time around.

A Pokémon and Fire Emblem character would effectively go directly against that, especially if we got one of each.

My money is on IsmaR IsmaR . Nothin wrong with Pyra Pyra but something tells me mod powers beat skill. At least in this case.

Just gonna throw my two cents on the Direct speculation hat.

To put it simply, I don't think we're getting a general one.

I mean, think of all the games we already have to wait for.

Luigi's Mansion 3
Mario Maker 2
Metroid Prime 4
Bayonetta 3
Astral Chain
Animal Crossing Switch
Link's Awakening
And so on...

And that's not counting the third-parties or whatever surprises they're cooking up for E3.

I think we've got more than enough things to really wait for when it comes to announcements for the time being, which is why I'm doubtful of us getting any general Direct.

If we get a Direct this month, it's a Smash Direct. It'll show us a Joker trailer, talk about his gameplay in detail, cover his stage and all the gimmicks, spend a really long time talking about Stage Builder and anything it'll bring, then maybe tease a few more modes for future updates and/or the next character.

That's enough for a decently-sized Smash Direct, imo, and probably the only thing we'd get until June... if we even get that.

Someone save this post for when I end up being right :V
But isn't it also because there's so many games to wait for that people would love to have more info on them? :O

I could see a Direct Mini that focuses on Smash, P5S localization, Mario Maker, and maayyybe MP Trilogy, but that's about it. No way on earth we're getting a big General Direct when the last one was only two months away and E3 is super close.

And I'm still standing behind my theory about it not happening until after PSL (if we get a Direct at all, of course).

He literally said they were characters new to Smash.

I mean hey, i’m totally open to any character as long as their moveset is neato and makes me want to play as them.

But at this point, i’m basically expecting characters that are from entirely new series. I just feel that character from Nintendo series don’t broaden the appeal of the game, nor do they fit what Reggie said at the VGA’s.

But i’m also basically a party pooper when it comes to Nintendo newcomers.

It was hard to motivate myself with this one. I had to come up with a different way to illustrate the same death that happened right before this one, I don't like Robin Hood from Shrek all that much, and I had to redraw him in the same pose in order for the concept I came up with to work. I think the explosion is better than the last one, still needs improving though. I had to rework Robin Hood's expression a few times, initially the jaw was going to be exaggerated as well, but it just didn't look quite right, so I went with the normal face proportions save for the eyes of course.

I should mention, the last death will be a full color drawing in order to cap this long running sim off nicely. I don't know who dies yet, but if the sim doesn't outright give me a prompt, and gives me, say, "X kills Y", I already know what I'll do for either victor.

I'd like to think "unexpected" would at least imply the characters are at least more surprising then something as mundane as PKMN or FE.

I mean those are your standard, run of the mill choices people would come to expect for promotion so I wouldn't group them as "unexpected"

That's a weird way to spell "Vs Meta Knight-Star Allies"

That theme is one of the only good things in that game lol
I ain't gonna stand for Star Allies slander. Game was fun, and is at least Kirby 64 tier.

What Reggie said is this...

"These are going to be characters that are new to the series, just like Joker from Persona 5. Characters that you would not anticipate to be in Super Smash Bros. Ultimate."

Doesn't imply that all of them are from new franchises, but it doesn't imply the opposite either. It just means they're newcomers, which is basically just empty words since we knew every veteran would be in the base roster back in E3 of last year.

But with that said, I wouldn't be surprised if all 5 DLCs were from new franchises.

But isn't it also because there's so many games to wait for that people would love to have more info on them? :O
That just means a bulkier E3, honestly. And it'd be nice to have some focus on more than just one game for once, unlike the past three years.

Reggie saying "new" is just PR speak because "Everyone is Here" makes that pretty obvious.

"Unexpected" is what needs to be highlighted. Although maybe not all the choices are going to be out of left field like Joker.

I dunno if it's E3 they care most about, but it sounds possible.
I thought it'd be a smash direct up until a while ago, now I think it could be a general direct. Maybe a bit of new announcements, a bit of info on already known games, and then smash stuff.

Either way I just want smash news XD

I mean, that’s not all that’s been said.

Based on this, he specifically says something about “Bringing characters into Smash” that are “unique, different”, and that Joker is “emblematic of that approach”.

While surely, a Gen 8 Pokémon could be “unique, different”, it’s not quite the same as how Joker is unique and different. At least, I don’t interpret it as, “Joker is emblematic of an approach in which we pick more Nintendo characters”.

But that’s my opinion, at least.
