What would be in it?

Opens on smash with joker. Release date new modes, etc.

Talk of more Nintendo X Microsoft. (Learn more at E3!)

Animal crossing teaser trailer. No name, footage, hints of big stuff. More at E3.

Even more mario maker madness.

Luigi’s mansion name drop and plot.

Ends on the reveal of Brave, with a be sure to tune into the smash direct at E3!
Reggie will also host the entire direct alongside Doug bowser, a final farewell from reggie before the smash reveal or one last crazy game reveal

Not Mother 3.

I mean I guess GamingINTEL has a shaky track record, but they don't seem to be the only ones predicting it, and usually when Direct rumors spread like ****ing wildfire, they end up being true. It happened in September of last year, and it happened in February.

If this mode's gonna be the be all end all YUUUUGE update people have been waiting for with new modes, wouldn't it make sense to just release Joker now-ish and save the BIG patch for E3?

Just my 2 cents, because I just feel like "Brave is now available to download!" is going to be swept under the rug by whoever they show off at E3.

You don't benefit from announcing a big patch at E3 unless it's paid downloadable content, a la Destiny expansions.

E3's viewing time is precious. You use it to sell potential consumers on products you're going to sell them. Smash has already sold the major bulk of all it's going to sell; getting gamers excited about a game they already have isn't the point of E3. So using a major update to a game owned by nearly 14million people as a stopgap between E3 and your last announcements is a good idea.

I just realized that we’re around a couple of weeks from MK11’s release, and probably getting Joker and Smash news before then.

Man this month’s gonna be something.

Can't wait for them to coordinate their releases so Scorpion can be in Smash and rip out Mario's spine.

I'm personally holding out for this gen's pseudo-legendary considering how I wasn't a fan of Kommo-o's design.
Also a dragon type eevee would be nice. Eevee and its evolutions are probably my favorite "cute" pokemon design and seeing one in my favorite type would make me so happy.

The Pillar Men theme is definitely high quality stuff I'll admit that.

But yeah both of our choices are pretty good for separate reasons.

This one is tricky, they could be releasing it now to prevent eclipsing other titles during E3 or also the opposite. Remember that while Smash is one of the biggest games Nintendo has, Nintendo also wants to focus on many other of their big franchises like Animal Crossing and Pokemon (plus there might be other surprises). Also, this might not be the only modes update we get for the game.

Pokemon usually does their own announcements, separate from general directs

If I were to guess, I'd say to expect some major Sword / Shield news during May, because that's usually when the Pokemon hype cycle starts

Anyways I'm gonna go play FFVII Now as I downloaded it on my Switch and this will be my first time playing through it.

It'll definitely be interesting seeing as this is a super influential RPG and all, Plus Cloud is in Smash which is a plus.

I like to take a more pessimistic approach when it comes to direct dates. If the direct doesn't come as predicted then I won because I was right about the direct not being this week, and if it comes then I still win because I want to see the direct. It's a win-win approach.

Probably ARMS 2. I’m fairly certain that Nintendo is willing to continue with the series after the positive reaction to it and selling well.

I’m hoping Spring Man and Ribbon Girl comes to Smash some day.

I would assume you would need to rework some of the controls to make it work with the Switch hardware, and Skyward Sword isn’t as well received as some of the other more notable Zelda titles.

Well it's been fun speaking with you all but I have to go to sleep now. Just another day until we get closer to Joker's release date.

Part of me still has a lot of doubt about the april direct being a general. It's like, they need to space out their reveals across the year. I'm not sure I can see them doing 3 pre e3 general directs unless Animal Crossing really does take a huge chunk of the time like smash last year.
If we do get a general though, the only thing I can predict is Joker, Erdrick and Metroid Prime Trilogy with a big segment on Mario Maker.
