Whoa now. Let's not let EA off the hook.Yeah, I could’ve worded that a bit better.
Guess that’s what happens when you try to talk about something when you just learned about it at 4 in the morning while trying to keep yourself awake to do an essay lol.
But yeah, Anthem’s failure seems more due to Bioware’s mismanagement than EA’s usual antics (which is the real shocker here). I’m honestly surprised that EA hasn’t shut them down yet.
But if they keep going down that path, it’s only a matter of time.
EA is just as responsible for a multitude of reasons:
- Forcing all their games to use Frostbite, disproportionately hurting Bioware as Frostbite was never intended to be used for RPGs or third-person games.
- Likewise forcing all their games to have a persistent world model where microtransactions and constant updates are necessary to generate constant revenue, essentially funneling whatever ideas Bioware had into some sort of Destiny clone regardless.
- Demanding a clearly unfinished game be shipped before March to give a small bump to the end of their terrible fiscal year, essentially sacrificing Anthem's/Bioware's long-term health for the sake of keeping investors happy in the short-term.
- Taking staff away from Bioware at terrible times to focus efforts on FIFA and Battlefront instead as those games were also barely able to meet their demanded release dates.
- Mass Effect Andromeda in general. EA's demands of Bioware have never matched their investments in the studio's staff or help, and all of the stress and negativity surrounding ME:A carried over into Anthem.
