I'm late to the party, and don't have time to look through 50 pages. What is the poll talking about? What "S"??

Persona 5 S was confirmed a few days back. We debated on what the "S" stood for for about a day, before Best Buy added a listing to their server for "Persona 5 for Nintendo Switch".

Oh man I would love that over support grinding/looking them up on the FE wiki.
When I finally played Revelation and unlocked literally ****ing everyone, I wondered to myself how the **** the developers expect you to reach even C-support with over half the cast. The number of characters is ludicrous and who's allowed to have a support with whom is all over the place and the game is less than 30 chapters long. I could grind every character to max level and I'd still only scratch the surface of possibilities.

tbh i'm still not entirely sure how P5 Switch adds up with P5S's teaser message of 'we will show you new phantom thieves', unless it was mistranslated grammatically and was actually talking to the 'new phantom thieves' brought in by joker's inclusion (i.e. nintendo fans)

Seriously, can you post it again? I'd love to look it over.
sure yeah just keep in mind that we didn't spend too much time deciding anything under b tier
I've revised what I though about the cast recently and me and a few other high level players made a list based on that

You can find it here

It’s weird to think about it, and I am absolutely for inclusiveness, but...does literally everything have to be catered to literally everyone? Through difficulty, especially. I’m not talking about society, mind you. That’s a different conversation.

I mean, that isn’t to say that folks shouldn’t be able to play a certain game. I don’t even play the Dark Souls games, or Bloodborne, or even Sekiro. But the thing with those games is that they’re extremely difficult. That’s how those games are built. That’s how they’re designed.

I often have a similar outlook when it comes to books. I’ve been told about certain books, where the author gets slammed online for a certain choice in their story (mainly from the left politically, which is something I find quite ironic as something of a center-lefty myself) and then the author either greatly changes the story from the original they planned for, or doesn’t release it at all. This in itself is harmful, especially when the reasoning by fans to do so is flimsy.

For example, an Asian American author wrote a story in which characters were enslaved, as it was based on actual events and ideas that exist where she came from. She was harassed on Twitter to change it because it “encouraged slavery and discrimination”. Obviously, that’s complete nonsense. Slavery is a horrible thing, but as soon as we actively forget about talking about it and making sure we don’t repeat it, it will be repeated. It shouldn’t be erased, but prevented from happening again. It was not glamorized. It was not glorified, yet because of the angry mob, the author did not release their work.

Coming back to games, there’s a certain identity that comes from games that posture themselves the way From Software has. Their games are hard. They’ve catered to players that want the experience. That’s part of why I haven’t played them, because it simply isn’t for me.

Now, I personally have no investment in them making an easy mode in the game. But if they do, it should still be difficult. To take out the aspect that defines a game seems anti-thetical to it in the first place. It’s like taking out the horror from Resident Evil, it removes the identity and the reason people play it.

There’s also the fact that players are supposed to learn from their mistakes and beat previously challenging bosses and enemies. That’s part of the game. To make it easy removes that, making it less like a From Software game.

Granted, I think there’s value in adding an easy mode. I just think that when the series itself is defined by the difficulty, it’s not even the same game anymore if you play it on easy, which defeats the purpose. You’re not even playing it the way it was intended.

I hate to say “git gud”. But if you want to play the game, then you have to embrace the game. Just like the real world, when we’re faced with a hurdle, we’ve got to find ways to adapt and overcome it. We can’t just ask for the bar to be lowered. You have to meet that bar.

Then again, we’re talking about games. It’s a tough issue because I don’t really think there’s any one right answer, but maybe a combination. I would say add an easy mode, but make it still difficult so it’s not a game that someone can just blindly walk through.
I almost missed this post.

This is what I was saying in an earlier post of mine with "some games can't have their difficulty changed without losing what makes them appealing". The example I used is Sonic Forces, let me go more in depth.

The appeal of Sonic games, to me, is learning how to navigate the game, learning the design of the game, playing the game repeatedly until it's second nature. Back when Sonic 1 was in the planning stages, this was the intention, this is where Yuji Naka got the idea for the game from, he would replay Super Mario Bros. World 1-1 over and over until he could speedrun it.

Making the levels super short and very easy to navigate, like Sonic Team did in Sonic Forces, goes against the core appeal of Sonic as a genre, and wasn't a good idea.
For what it's worth, I'd actually prefer to look at difficulty options beyond just easy/normal/hard/etc modes. If you're playing a game for the first time, just being given a choice between easy/normal/hard doesn't tell you a lot about how easy or difficult you're actually going to find them; you could pick easy mode because you want to ease yourself into the game, and end up finding it too easy for you - then what?

I personally like the idea of adaptive difficulty, like in something like Resident Evil 4, where the game automatically and seamlessly adjusts the difficulty based on how well it judges you to be playing. So if you're doing well, the game will add more enemies or bulk them up, while if you're struggling, it'll take enemies away or make them easier to defeat. If it's done really well, the player won't notice that it's happening at all, instead they'll just get to play the game at a difficulty level that should always be just right for them. This video talks about it a bit more in-depth:

Something like that could probably be combined with some other, more modular difficulty options. So you could configure the number of enemies, their strength, health, intelligence, and so on, or just let the game choose automatically, since just tossing everything into one easy/normal/hard toggle isn't always going to achieve exactly the right setup for everyone. Obviously something like that doesn't work for every game, but adding more options like that doesn't hurt anyone.
That sounds like something very difficult to program, but very rewarding if you get it right.

Actually, it reminds me of those Devil May Cry reviews, where Game Reviewers were saying "the soundtrack is too quiet", because the game's music gets louder the better you do, and they sucked.

Or Joker won't be ready until later on.

Don't want to defend ATLUS all the time, but we really don't know if the delay is caused by them. Actually, we don't even know if there is a delay. Wait for Mewtwo wasn't too less than what we'll wait for Joker.
Ehhh, I doubt he's not ready. I'm not even saying it to be mean or to blame Atlus, it's mostly just acknowledging that they're probably requesting Nintendo hold off until Jane gets shown off officially.

We're technically not even supposed to know what she is right now. We only have the base idea because someone dun goofed and left data for her in Joker's palette swap data. None of us would probably even think that she had anything to do with Smash without the datamine and Persona 5 Switch rumors, but she's probably the reason Nintendo hasn't shown Joker yet IMO.

WE WOULDN'T HAVE TO BE HAVING THIS DEBATE IF ATLUS WAITED UNTIL THEY WERE READY TO SHOW US NEW INFO TO TELL US ABOUT ALL THESE NEW P5 PROJECTS, OR AT LEAST GAVE US MORE THAN 20 SECONDS OF INFO WITH EVERY ANNOUNCEMENT

I guess that adds to replayability, since you can experience different support combinations each time.

Though, I think it really lowers the writing quality, so I hope it won't be the approach future games will take. I prefer playing through something special once to a watered down version of it multiple times.

Shot in the dark:

The P5 Royal update is an expansion for PS4, but P5S is the Switch version, which has both vanilla P5 and the Royal update included.

Basically what they could have done with the DQXI port but for some reason chose not to just to screw PS4 owners.

Got it. Part of the Best Buy leak? Also, that's not an S. It's the symbol for Hope.

i'd certainly hope so if they're including jane in smash

it'd be super weird to have a watered-down version of vanilla P5 on nintendo consoles while jane is running around in smash promoting a better version on ps4

Leave it my boys Diem and Scoliosis Jones to perfectly describe the importance of difficulty in games.
When someone shares your opinion in a debate but types it out more eloquently in a way that everyone agrees with.

Yep, Persona 5 Switch was one of the three games leaked by Best Buy recently. The other two were Metroid Prime Trilogy, and Link to the Past, all for Switch.

Just today, however, Best Buy removed all three games from their servers, so who knows what that means.

This, 100% this.

My biggest problem with Fates, everything else aside, is the fact that finding the good supports is a total crap shoot. I have no idea which characters are going to have well-written, memorable exchanges and which ones are there to fill space. And by the time you find out which it is, you've already invested like 4-5 chapters into these two so **** it take it to A/S rank.

Compounding the fact that the kids were a dumb idea in the first place is how most of the female parents seemed to be written entirely differently than they were outside of their parenting supports. Basically all the child/mom supports are bad. They're there by obligation and they had to write 10+ possibilities for every child. It's so watered down it's basically just water by that point.

My thoughts exactly. While I was concerned they were gonna pull a Catherine on PC again, that was an entirely different situation than this. Plus, it doesn't make logistical sense, because that would mean that Atlus is assigning things like this:

One Team is working on P5R, another P5S, and one P5 Switch. Atlus isn't exactly the biggest studio around and I don't really see the logic in that, so I have to think if P5 is getting "the Golden" treatment, it's gonna be on Switch too, 'cause otherwise putting Jane in Smash markets a competitor exclusive and stretches Atlus staff thin for no reason. That's why I think P5S is Persona 5 Switch.

Idon Idon and I both being Neutral Evil is oddly fitting.

I personally see myself as Chaotic Good though.
Oh are we doing DnD alignments now? I typically get true neutral or neutral good. Usually true neutral more.

Why am I "evil"? I only ban people who deserve it, like bigots and people who fail to acknowledge that Etrian Odyssey's combination of cartography and dungeon-crawling is the peak of the DS and 3DS' entire raison d'être.
Do not take it seriously, you are not evil. :p
