Porky's absence is not nearly as weird as people are making it out to be.

Yeah, it's strange that he's missing considering how he's such a notable character, but it's not like he's a requirement. The most likely scenario is that the development team simply didn't add him, and I'd be extremely suprised if anything else came out of this. The series is basically dead, and saying Porky is highly requested is generous.

I really don't think it's worth looking into.

All it confirms is that Erdrick's name can be translated into Brave. It's another straw for the Erdrick scarecrow we're making.

Brave is just a direct translation of Erdrick’s class though. It’s pretty much just him saying “the Hero’s shield”.

And there's more to Porky than the character himself

-They are multiple versions of Porky

-There are the Porky Robots

-There is his boss fight in brawl

-The statue of him which is also in brawl

-The pig mask soilders

- His parents and little brother

None of those things are here.

Which is kinda werid.

sure, but my main sticking point for brave (aka the straw i grasped) was why/if at all japanese developers would opt for the english word 'brave' instead of just calling him yuusha or something; most of the datamining scene is english anyway, and the connection was figured out in like 5 seconds

once the instagram post confirmed that yes, there actually is a precedent for them calling him 'brave', that was more or less it for me

Yeah, Brave is Erdrick. Not really doubting it anymore, especially when the reasons I initially had for doubting it were extremely shallow and nonsensical.

I'm sold. There will be multiple DLC packs. We already saw with Joker that this is the Challenger Pack, meaning it will be the protag/famous character from a different series every time. Erdrick perfectly fits the suit of a Challenger. Soon, we will see the [Blankname] pack and the [Nameblank] pack. Or something like that.

thursday like november direct, day after the full P5R reveal and persona concert so they're free to reveal Jane for whoever she is
they'll probably announce it there with a "joker has stolen smash bros info" shtick like they revealed the august direct at EVO

either that or tuesday april 30, which is really pushing "before the end of april"

You can't pick up a theme just by looking at one character. Even if we include Erdrick, there's still no guarantee that the following three characters will all be third-party protagonists.
