Pretty sure that was the plan all along. They felt Pokemon and Smash could carry the Switch through Christmas on their own-- and they were right. Thus this year will seem huge by comparison because they didn't have to announce anything else prematurely.Ehhhh I dunno. Microsoft were killing it last year and have some pretty exciting things around the corner.
Nintendo needs to step it up from last year, as last year was pretty much nothing but a Smash Direct.
One of the major problems with companies putting so much investment into their E3 press conferences is the fact that we see so many trailers for games that simply aren't ready yet. Then they get cancelled or significantly altered only to be released years later.
