Is Yume Nikki really that obscure? Sure, maybe Madotsuki herself is, but Uboa is relatively well-known as is the game as a whole.

I think it's less "the game being obscure" and more "people nowadays don't know about this game". Back in the late 00s and early 10s it had quite the following. Every month there was a new fangame being released. Nowadays people only talk about Undertale, Bendy and Cuphead.

For a brief moment I thought datamining revealed he was considered for the game before being cut like I suspect Monster Hunter was until I realized you were talking about his assist being cut.

tbh I wouldn't even mind a new fighter ballot, though things might get ****ty when a fan favorite inevitably loses and people get angry because they thought their decade-old character that hasn't had a new game in years was popular among casuals whose votes count just as much as yours

(seriously isabelle's widespread positive reception should be proof that the beliefs held by smashboards and reddit and all the more hardcore smash communities don't necessarily reflect the majority's views)

Throughout speculation, I find that we as a fanbase have a nasty habit of underplaying certain characters that don't fit within our sphere of influence. Isabelle was the one who bore the blunt of that this time around, but characters like Lucario and Rosalina have also gotten falsely accused of being more unpopular then they actually are just because they don't check off what we think should get in over other characters. It really goes to show that sometimes we need to pay attention to what a broader audience is asking for with characters then just what we exclusively want, because if we stay within our bubble we tend to get blindsided by characters that should've been more expected in hindsight.

Valkyria Chronicles has always been something I wanna get into, but I'm unsure. I'm talking about the HD remaster of the original that's on the Switch.

That $19.99 price is pretty alluring, while Valkyria 4's 59.99 is... Hmm.

I wanna start with 1, so should I go for it?

It was the game that popularized RPG Maker games. I think that RPG Maker wouldn't have been as popular back in the day if Yume Nikki didn't give it a push. God... I feel old now.

I've played TF2 Death Run map that is surreal as hell, that just so happens to feature Uboa as one of the traps, and has other images and at least one song from the Yume Nikki in a nearby section of the same map.

Team Fortress 2 and it's modding community are thus the only reasons I know about Yume Nikki.

4 is basically a back-to-basics game after 2 and 3 deviated quite a bit, so Chronicles 1 is a very accurate representation (bar some technical upgrades) of what you can expect from 4. Go for it if you don't want to put down the full 59.99.

4 also has a pretty long demo, so there's that too.

Music's decent in both, though never anything to write home about (to be honest, I can't really remember any individual tracks from either). The stories veer into anime trope territory a little frequently, but it's still all nicely told and presented for what it is.

I was testing Sonic out today just for laughs. I didn't like him at all the first time I played him, but after playing his Classic, he started growing on me more.

After playing more of him today, he's...weird. Playing Sonic is kind of weird to me, lol. I think I understand some of how he works, but TBH I'm still not sure if he's for me. He has Inkling's struggle with kill power but none of Inkling's perks to make up for it, it feels like. I also distinctly remember U-Air being able to kill back in Smash 4, buuuut I could be misremembering.

A good IP from Shogakukan would be any of Rumiko Takahashi's works, like Ranma 1/2 and Inuyasha. Also Golgo 13 (one of the highest selling mangas ever).

I asked the Yoshi Server and it seems like it's mostly used for escapes and mixups. EEEEeeeehhh
