It's not that. I actually really like female heroes in movies and games. It's mostly because the movie was created for the sake of feminism and political protest, and I'd rather not see political content in a superhero movie. The lead actress even said that this movie is "not for white men".

Superheroes are inherently political.

also Pokémon Trainer sucks. All three of them are awkward matchups for Lucina. Squirtle is small and hard to hit with stuff like n-air, Ivysaur has a projectile which usually makes life tricky, and Charizard's fire breath is annoying because it's really good at keeping Lucina off the ledge. "everyone is here" was a mistake

You know what's probably going to hurt this movie the most.

Detective Pikachu is managing to make like 100 pokemon "real" looking and semi-believable in a live action setting. The Sonic movie is failing at making one.

Yeah, I can't help but feel this movie is gonna get compared to Detective Pikachu in a lot of ways, and that's gonna hurt it a ton. Especially because Detective Pikachu actually looks really good. Some of the Pokemon look a little off (Greninja kinda freaks me out), but most of the designs are pretty great; Pikachu himself looks awesome.

Y'know what I wanna see, though? Jim Carrey as Eggman. I wanna see what he looks like.

I used to think Sonic soundtracks were the one thing you could always count on being good in the franchise, but then I heard Forces' and even that part of the game was super meh.

Well, apart from Aqua Road. That song is pretty great.

Captain America: The First Avenger was literally a WWII movie.
Ant-Man touched on how needlessly difficult it is for non-violent criminals to reintegrate into society.
Avengers: Age of Ultron showed the radicalization of youth in war-torn nations.
Black Panther showcased the debate of isolationism vs reaching out to other nations, as well as many other issues.

Or the fact that they made an elseworlds story about if Superman landed in the USSR instead and how different the world would be if he were a Commie.

Or how they turned Supes into a tyrannical dictator in Injustice, symbolizing a lack of checked powers that leads to that sort of regime.
