i enjoyed p5 overall and i think the strengths in individual character scenes far outweigh the lesser parts, but it does kinda trip up in the last quarter or so - the main villain(s) come out of nowhere, there's one scene where they recount their entire evil plan in private conversation for the pure benefit of the audience, and overall it gets pretty clear from the lack of some characters' development (poor haru) that, as was later datamined and found out, they cut an entire dungeon from the final part of the game which would have given it a lot more breathing space for story.I don't like the term "bad writing" because it's a lazy complaint that doesn't actually address any specific issue.
What was written poorly? Was it plot construction? Bad plot holes or leaps in logic? Were character interactions not believable or relatable? Was it pacing? Was it too melodramatic? Too cheesy? Was the main character a Mary Sue? Did it stumble over its own themes? Did it end terribly? There are so many things that "bad writing" could be. And a game like, say, Mass Effect 3 can have great writing at parts and terrible writing at other parts.
