I have a question since I'm using this thread as a reference for my own Smash game concept. From what I understand, this is a hypothetical enhanced version of Smash Ultimate, so do all of the modes from Ultimate return?
No, not all modes will return. Squad Strike and Smashdown will but World of Light will not be included.

Sorry for asking too many questions, but is there a summary of this mode that I can read?

It has gameplay similar to Subspace Emissary, Spirits can be used, and there are items called Wishing Stars where players can collect Wish Shards and combine to create a Wishing Star which is a one-time use buffing item that fulfills a wish. The current list are available on the front page under Game Modes.

Players pick a character to start off as and will then begin the game mode and will slowly expand their roster as they unlock more fighters via “wishes”. We are currently voting for our first level plus submitting an NPC original character to be our guide/share crafting/storage/etc role.

I sincerely apologize for the long delay, without further ado. Let us see what Marin has to offer!

Marin Dreams her Way in Super Smash Bros. Infinite!

Design: Marin & her Tools

Marin’s design is inspired by her look in Link’s Awakening artwork found in manuals, which means it is a more humanoid appearance that falls in line with the other Zelda characters like the titular Zelda, Link and Sheik. This coincides with her look in Hyrule Warriors and the upcoming Triforce Duels as those take a similar approach in her design as well. Albeit the design for Smash Bros. Infinite has a notable aesthetic update, very similar as in Zelda’s case.

Her tools that she uses in battle include the iconic Sea Lily's Bell, which sports an original design for Smash inspired by the Hyrule Warriors design. There's also the Pegasus Boots, Fire Rod, Surf Harp, Hookshot, and Conch Horn that she uses in various moves during battle. These tools are all inspired by their Link's Awakening Remake design. Some other instruments make an appearance in her taunts too!

Moveset
General Overview
Marin is a close-combat fighter with some zoner properties, as she does have tools of her own to fight opponents from a longer distance. As taken inspiration from her Hyrule Warriors and Triforce Duels appearance, she uses a lot tools, though she mostly makes use of her trust Sea Bell. Though when not in combat, she is carefree and relies on no weaponry. When she dashes though, she has her Pegasus Boots equipped. She only has 1 really easy gimmick, which lends well to her beginner-friendly status. She has the potential to pull some crazy stuff with her Harp by inputting certain directions, something very similar as that of Hero's, but with no U.I. and more effort! Though one of her moves allows her to buff all her moves which are accompannied by the water effect. More on both later.

Marin has a weight of 80, above-decent walk speed (0.9), decent run speed (1.58), and mediocre fall and air speed.

Neutrals
MovesDescription
Jab:
Sea Bell Bash
Marin takes her Sea Bell out. She swings her bell forward once followed by a return swing. She then heaves it down in a comical fashion as it clangs and chimes back and forth, with everyone within the sound of her bell taking damage. This last part can be infinitely pulled off as long as the player keeps mashing A.
  • Damage: 4%, 6.2%, 3.2% (infinite)
  • Knockback: Low
Forward Tilt:
Sea Bell Swing
Marin swings forward with her Bell diagonally, the Bell is emitting water.
  • Damage: 6%
  • Knockback: Low-Medium
(Move by cashregister9 cashregister9 )
Up Tilt: Hookshot Catch
Marin takes the Hookshot, which is specifically modelled after the Switch version of Link’s Awakening's Hookshot, and throws it vertically above her with quite the pouted face, with the maximum reach being quite shorter than that of Joker's Hookshot. If the Hook hits someone, it grabs the opponent, and as Marin pulls them down full-force, they get dragged towards below Marin and get slammed onto the ground. The opponent gets launched above her with low ending lag and knockback, making it a reliable combo starter. This does not work as a tether recovery. If Marin misses this move, she gets faced with quite the endlag, as she still has to pull the hookshot to her.
  • Damage: 16%
  • Knockback: Very Low

(A unique move proposed by the Leadership Team, yours truly specifically)
Down Tilt:
Animal Kick
Marin crouches and performs a kneeling low-level roundhouse kick with her Pegasus Boots equipped. It is Marin’s fastest tilt attack, though it mostly serves as a fast safe poke.
  • Damage: 4%
  • Knockback: Very Low
(Move by cashregister9 cashregister9 )
Dash Attack:
Pegasus Boot Bell Dash
While running with her Pegasus Boots, the Bell has a blade of water coming out of it. She stabs forward with the Bell, nearly falling over. She has the Pegasus Boots equipped in this Attack.
  • Damage: 10%
  • Knockback: Medium
(Move by cashregister9 cashregister9 )
Edge Attack: Marin Slide
Marin slides along the ground and shoves everything in front of her away with her hands. Similar to Isabelle’s Edge Attack.
  • Damage: 9%
  • Knockback: Low
(Again, a unique move proposed by the Leadership Team, yours truly specifically yet again)
Floor Attack:
Sea Bell Spin
As Marin rises up, she takes her trusty Sea Bell out and spins once.
  • Damage: 7%
  • Knockback: Low
(Move by Krookodilian Krookodilian )

Smashes
All of Marin's Smash Attacks are accompannied with an effect, be it Fire or Water.
MovesDescriptions
Forward Smash: Magical Rod Blast
Marin takes out the Magical Rod item and fires a powerful short-range explosion of purple fire from it. As she charges up the attack, she seems a bit worried as she's not accustomed to using the weapon in battle, and is a bit scared of what could come out of it. Strong, but has noticeable ending lag, so despite it being a disjointed hitbox, it is not as safe as one would assume. This is one of her most reliable KO options. The design of the Magical Rod primarily takes inspiration from its design in the Link's Awakening remake, although being a bit longer.
  • Min-Max Damage: 13%-19% (clean), 6%-9% (late)
  • Knockback: Very High (clean), Medium (late)
(Move by Mr. Robotto Mr. Robotto )
Up Smash:
Magic Powder Blast
Marin takes a bag of magical powder and spreads it in an arc above her head. The powder itself may not seem much but once it makes contact with an opponent, it catches fire and creates a large explosion! The unique effect of this attack is that it causes the entirety of the powder to explode. Given its wide arc trail, an opponent who is hit by the explosion from the front can almost instantaneously be hit by the attack from behind Marin.
  • Min-Max Damage: 2%-4% (powder), 18.4%-27.9% (explosion)
  • Max Knockback: Very Low (powder), High (explosion)
Down Smash:
Smash Wave
Marin Slams her bell towards the ground, which summons a medium-sized splash of water right in front of her. Both her bell and the splash contain hitboxes, and it is very possible to get hit by both simultaneously, and in that case the damage of the splash would be the one that would apply.
  • Min-Max Damage: 5%-10% (bell), 16.4%-20.9% (wave)
  • Max Knockback: Medium (bell), High (wave)
(Move by Krookodilian Krookodilian )

Aerials
MovesDescriptions
Neutral Aerial: Ocean Twist
Marin Twirls elegantly in the air with water emanating from her. If the player chooses so, Marin can hop forward and perform this again to pull off a juggle
  • Damage: 9%
  • Knockback: Low
(Move by cashregister9 cashregister9 )
Forward Aerial:
Air Bell Slam
Marin releases her anger by using all of her force to swing her bell downwards in front of her. This causes a Meteor Smash if the opponent is hit at the tip of her Sea Bell. The startup is somewhat slow, similar to that of Mario’s F-Air.
  • Damage: 6%
  • Knockback: Low, Meteor Smash (tip of sea lily's bell)
(Move by cashregister9 cashregister9 )
Back Aerial: Surf Kick
And for her back-air, Marin kicks behind her. This kick is infused with water, while being equipped with the Pegasus Boots, with waves emanating around her leg. It has a slight tipper on the end of her foot.
  • Damage: 4%, 13% (tipper)
  • Knockback: Low, High (tipper)
(Move by cashregister9 cashregister9 )
Up Aerial: Air Bell Swing
Marin Swings the Bell upwards in an arc motion. The bell is emitting water in an elegant manner. This causes 6% damage with medium knockback. Juggling the opoonent by jumping and performing the move again is possible.
  • Damage: 6%
  • Knockback: Medium
(Move by cashregister9 cashregister9 )
Down Aerial:
Air Bell Pop
Marin, with her Sea Bell, puts a bubble right beneath her that instantly pops, and due to the sheer pressure escaping from the Bell, Marin floats slightly, giving her a bit more reach. While having the reach, it has some endlag, making it not very safe if it’s missed.
  • Damage: 12%
  • Knockback: Medium
(Move by Mr. Robotto Mr. Robotto )

Throws
All of Marin's throws are accompannied with the water effect, which means they can be buffed.
MovesDescription
Grab:
Surf Harp
Marin uses her Surf Harp to create a splash of water on the ground that pushes the opponent towards her, which then ensnares the opponent, allowing Marin to continue with pummels and throws. The Surf Harp she uses is based on the one from the Link's Awakening remake.

(Move by airConditioner airConditioner )
Pummel:
Surf Harp's Melody
While still equipped with her harp, Marin strums the strings, which strengthens the waves, lightly damaging the opponent.
  • Damage: 1.3% per pummel
(Move by airConditioner airConditioner )
Forward Throw:
Wave Throw
Marin plays all strings on her harp, which commands the waves to engulf the opponent and throw them forward. Although the knockback is on the weaker side, it is optimal for combos as Marin can perform any aerial attack to follow up with it, as the enemy gets launched in a slight curve.
  • Damage: 9%
  • Knockback: Low-Medium
(Move by Mr. Robotto Mr. Robotto )
Back Throw:
Surf Glissando
Marin plays a backwards Glissando on her harp, following through with her arm ending up behind her. The waves follow the motion of her arm and match the angle that her arm follows through too.
  • Damage: 10%
  • Knockback: Medium
(A unique move proposed by the Leadership Team, Krookodilian Krookodilian specifically)
Up Throw:
Melody Throw
Melody Throw, Marin Strums her harp and a fountain of water launches the opponent upwards.
  • Damage: 9%
  • Knockback: Medium
(Move by cashregister9 cashregister9 )
Down Throw:
Tsunami Slam
With a single flick on her harp, Marin commands the waves to slam the opponent on the ground. This bounces the opponent above Marin, which opens up a lot of combo options (D-Throw to U-Tilt, as an example).
  • Damage: 6%
  • Knockback: Low
(Move by Mr. Robotto Mr. Robotto )

Specials
MovesDescriptions
Neutral Special:
Legend of Songs
Pressing the special attack button will cause Marin to pull out her Surf Harp, and 6 empty rectangles would appear above her. During this time, Marin can’t move during this but can cancel out by hitting the Neutral Special again. Please note that attacking out this in the middle of battle results in a significant attack startup lag, since you will have to input the entire song. When initiating the harp sequence, players can input the control stick to the right, left, up or down which will initiate a song, these directions would appear within the empty rectangles when inputted. Please note doing this attack while in the air and over the ledge can result in a self-destruct if not performed quickly enough. While Marin is technically from Link’s Awakening, she has appeared in various Zelda games in different forms and names. One such form is Malon from Ocarina of Time. It’s fitting that she would be able to use music from these games to use in battle. Once the first 6 notes have been played, Marins performs the move she's chosen as the rest of the song she played quietly plays out in the distance. She has a total of 11 songs pulled from various Zelda games.

Zelda’s Lullaby
Song of Storms
Saria’s Song
Song of Time
Song of Double Time
Inverted Song of Time
Song of Healing
Scarecrow’s Song
Manbo’s Mambo
Epona’s Song
Wind’s Requiem

These songs each have a unique property that can drastically change the flow of battle.

  • Zelda’s Lullaby: This mimics Zelda’s Naryu’s Love which causes a crystalline barrier to rotate around Marin but with weaker reflecting damage, less damage output, and acts quicker.

Input: ⬅⬆➡⬅⬆➡

  • Song of Storms: Summons a lightning bolt in a similar vein as Pikachu’s Thunder but delivers a series of strikes in quick succession.

Input: ➡⬆⬇➡⬆⬇

  • Saria’s Song: Grants Marin more floatiness and light-weight to her jumps for 8 seconds.

Input: ⬇➡⬅⬇➡⬅

  • Song of Time: Used as a counter. When it connects during the end portion of the song, Marin will vanish for a split second, slows down the opponents action, and then reappears thus negating any damage.

Input: ➡⬆⬇➡⬆⬇

  • Song of Double Time: Increases her movement and attack speed by 2.2x; similar in theory to Hero’s Haste.

Input: ➡➡⬆⬆⬇⬇

Input: ⬇⬆➡⬇⬆➡

  • Song of Healing: Grants healing of 5%, and can only be used 3 times during a stock. This move summons a pixelated fairy.

Input:⬅➡⬇⬅➡⬇

  • Scarecrow’s Song: It causes a Scarecrow to bust out from the ground in front of Marin. This has extremely high knockback and midrange damage with 13.2% dealt on a clean hit and 7% on a late hit. This attack is unique because, upon the first initiation, it will record the first six control inputs (which don't align with any other song) and then align it to this attack. So for example, hitting Up and Down six times will create Scarecrow's Song and then logs it in as the input for that song for the rest of that match.

Input: Created by Player

  • Manbo’s Mambo: Allows Marin to teleport in a given direction some distance away. She gets surrounded by water before teleporting.

Input: ⬇➡➡⬆⬅⬆
  • Epona’s Song: It sends up a spiritual form of Epona which runs forward while crashing into opponents and knocking them away. Upon contact with the opponent, Epona deals 15% damage with high Knockback. This is a very strong move and can be dangerous if you don't see it coming, when playing against Marin.

Input: ⬆➡⬅⬆➡⬅

  • Wind’s Requiem: Releases a massive gust of wind forward that doesn’t deal damage but has high knockback. It has a vacuum effect behind Marin that allows her to trap opponents.

Input: ⬆⬅⬆⬆⬅⬆

Side Special: Sea Bubble
Marin releases a watery bubble, its course of trajectory heavily depends on what side you tilt the Side-Special. If held to the side in the center, it will follow a completely horizontal path, if tilting upwards the sea bubble will slowly follow an upward arc, opposite applies to tilting it a bit downwards. Compared to other projectiles, it is only a bit slower to get out.
  • Damage: 6% per Bubble
  • Knockback: Very Low
(A new take on Venus of the Desert Bloom Venus of the Desert Bloom 's Side-Smash)
Up Special:
Cucco Wings
Marin rapidly takes out a Cucco and lifts it above her. The Cucco flies upward while carrying Marin with all of its power before getting visibly tired and slowly falling to the ground. It is maneuverable and covers a decent amount of vertical and horizontal distance depending on how it is maneuvered. Once Marin either lands with the Cuccoo in her hands, or once the Cucco gets tired, the Cucco would simply flap out of her hands and vanish away.

(Move by Commander_Alph Commander_Alph )
Down Special:
Conch Horn
Marin takes the Conch Horn out and starts playing on the conch shell. As she leans a bit forward facing the screen while blowing it, coming out the other side of the Horn comes a big sound that takes form around her. This results into all her water attacks getting slightly buffed (a 1.2% multiplier in both damage and knockback) for around 15 seconds, this multiplier cannot stack and if performed again within the 15 seconds it will not be applied. This move takes a while to get out, and everyone caught in the sound gets dealt 8% damage, with medium knockback. To give an idea, it kills around 90% at the ledge. This horn is based on one of the eight instruments in Link's Awakening.
  • Damage: 8%
  • Knockback: Medium

(Move by Mr. Robotto Mr. Robotto )

Final Smash
MovesDescription
Final Smash:
Ballad of the Wind Fish
Marin will call forth a splash of water that will transport the opponent caught in it into a cutscene. (8%)
The cutscene will be reminiscent of the ending of Link's Awakening. Marin will play the 8 instruments near a sleeping Wind Fish, causing it to wake up. Its awakening will cause the dream world to disappear, and the opponent to disappear along with it in a light. Marin is returned to gameplay, where she wipes her eyes groggily, and the opponent is sent flying. (46%, instant KO at >100%) (airConditioner)
  • Damage: 8% (initial splash of water), 46% (after cinematic)
  • Knockback High (<100%), instant KO (>100%)
BJaldJd.gif
(Move by airConditioner airConditioner )

Miscellaneous

Kirby Hat: Kirby gains both Marin's hair and Hibiscus flower. With Marin sucked in, Kirby can now play the Legend of Songs!

Boxing Ring Title: Koholint Concierto

Victory Theme: Ballad of the Windfish (the first 7 seconds)
Victory Animations
Marin sits on a rock, playing her harp. Then smiling when facing the camera. This is an allusion to her art which you can find above in the post.
(Submission by cashregister9 cashregister9 )
The screen is dark. As the view opens the camera is seen blinking, as if simulating the point-of-view of someone who has just woken up and is looking at the sky. Suddenly, when the winner gets announced, Marin's smiling face pops into view, leaning forward, as if the girl has been waiting on the camera to wake up.
(Submission by Mr. Robotto Mr. Robotto )
Marin is with her back against the screen as the camera closes in, she then notices the camera behind her and turns around. Finishing with a big wave with her hand.
(Submission by Commander_Alph Commander_Alph )
Taunts
Up Taunt
Marin takes out the Coral Triangle, and hits it once. Proud of herself for doing one single jingle, she quickly puts it away.
Right Taunt
From behind Marin comes BowWow, as Marin looks surprisingly at the Chain Chomp, it threatens its surroundings with growls before jumping away.
Left Taunt
Marin takes out the Wind Marimba and plays the first few iconic notes of Tal Tal Heights. She then puts it away.
Down Taunt
Marin takes out the Thunder Drum, and tries to play something. Alas, playing drums isn't her forté. So as she's getting embarassed, she puts it away.
Idle Poses
Marin stops, dozes off for a bit while standing, and suddenly wakes up.
Marin takes her harp and dusts it off.

On-Screen Appearance
Marin enters with the Surf Harp in her hand riding some waves. As the waves disappear under her feet, she puts her harp away and readies herself for battle.

Final Words
And that's Marin's moveset in Smash Infinite for you! It was very fun to see what people could come up with this character, especially for one that doesn't really have much reference material! I'm very glad we went with Marin, she seems like such a wild pick on the surface, but honestly, that's what makes me think she could very well be a reality in Smash one day as a potential fighter, as she's seen as such an impossibility by many people, despite having a majority of things going for her nonetheless. What do you think? The Leadership Team chose moves based on quality, moveset variety and coherence.

Again, my apologies for the delay, my life was getting a bit busy. Hopefully everyone here is content with how Marin turned out to be! Any thoughts regarding her inclusion or moveset are welcome.

Edit: some may be wondering why this was so early. To be truthful, I had…2 hours of sleep last night? First night jitteries in our new house so every sound was waking me up.

Judging by the current poll, Dairantoushi is currently in the lead thus are presumptive winner.

Here are the compiled Wishing Stars NPC submissions!

Gaine Shiho (Pronounced GUY-neh SHE-ho)
Voice Actresses: Megan Taylor Harvey (English), Yui Ogura (Japanese)

Gaine is a cartoony young pixie-like girl in a simple, glowing-yellow dress, bloomers, and golden slippers. She has an adorable round face with star-shaped, glowing pupils in her blue eyes, and her platinum blonde hair is in the shape of a 5-point star. Around her neck is a glowing blue trinket that glows whenever a Wishing Star Piece is close by. She's usually a very calm and supporting young sprite, but there are moments along the journey where she gets Paimon-levels of enthusiastic and chipper.

I imagine Gaine to be the mascot because her design is meant to evoke shooting stars, which are usually wished upon, and in turn are the prominent aspect of the story. Furthermore, her name is a spoonerism pun of 願い星, or negai hoshi, which literally translated to "wishing star" in English.
Scrimblo Bimblo, The Lovable Scrunko
View attachment 325848
Scrimblo is the guy pulling the strings when it comes to who partakes in the Smash tournaments, and also helps out in making sure nobody is seriously injured - however, he is a neutral more than a hero or villain and will let a bad guy go if it means more fights for his hypebeast fix - he LOVES a good battle. Snarky and overconfident, he lacks any powers of his own (scrunkos are one of the weakest species in the multiverse) but knows everything about every fighter and every world. He seems to be somewhat aware of each fighter's video game origins, but tends not to mention it outside of some allusions to "the player" and "the developer" that the fighters frankly find nonsenical.

Scrimblo is a strange, surreal character who fits perfectly for a game clashing a bunch of characters who were never meant to go together. He would be a fun reference to a Smash fandom in-joke and celebrate we the fans and our funny ways. His snarky commentary could lead to some good campy jokes, and his lack of direct ties to Wishing Stars' themes ensure he could be reused for future games. Additionally, he has an ugly charm to his design that prevents him from being obnoxiously cute.

Scrimblo would be voiced by Billy West with a Flatbush accent, not dissimilar (yet still legally distinct) from a certain iconic rabbit West has previously provided the voice for.
Submit an Original NPC for Wishing Stars

Dusty

Dusty is a "Loyal Guide" (always capitalized when she says it) made out of stardust. One of many stardust creatures created by the tournament's proprietor to help run things or guide competitors, Dusty is dutiful, helpful, and loyal. She always put 100% into her work, and the competitor's comfort and ability to do what they need to is top priority. Even when she's exhausted, though, she always manages to put forth a chipper attitude. Dusty also has a bit of an awkward, dorky side when encountering something or someone she's a big fan of.

Appearance:
Dusty's silhouette gives the appearance of a short (about same height as Kirby), almost chibi-like humanoid figure clad in a poofy gown. Her "hair" sticks out in several large spikes, resembling the shape of a stereotypical cartoon star. However, the entirety of her body--including what looks like clothes--has a cosmic texture. Think Cosmic Mario from Super Mario Galaxy, except with a color scheme that's brighter and more varied, resembling a nebula. The only exception is Dusty's face, where white spots outlined in black act as eyes and a mouth.

Voice Talent:
EN: Ashley Rose
JP: Ayana Taketatsu
(I don't tend to pay attention to voice talent that much, so I just went "Rhyme TWEWY, that works")

Why Her?
Dusty's "stardust" aesthetic fits with the stars theme, and her cheery demeanor and loyalty would help to endear her to players (unless we end up making her talk as much as Fi...). The "stardust creatures" concept could also allow for additional NPCs, maybe even enemies.
The Brave Hero
They have 2 voice actors per language and the 2 voice actors lines are layered on top of each other

VA: US: Zeno Robinson and Stephanie Sheh JP: Hiroshi Fujioka and Miyuki Sawashiro

The Brave Hero would be a figure inspired by classic Tokusatsu like the original Kamen Rider and Himitsu Sentai Goranger, The Brave hero would be wearing an undersuit that has a Galaxy pattern on it, it has some Indigo colored armor on top of it, The belt Hovers slightly of their waist and is constantly spinning. The Brave Heroes eyes are a Bright blue and has a light source inside it, While the helmet resembles a Dragon. The Brave Hero is also wearing a cape that has no end, the outside of the cape has a muted rainbow color with small animated orbs that flash images of the many games that are represented in Infinite, while the underside is the background of Final destination. The Final notable design on The Brave Hero is their gloves look very much like Master Hand and Crazy Hand.

The Brave Hero would act sort of like a mentor to the other characters, being a good teacher whilst also showing off. The Brave Hero is also not afraid to get into a fight if need be.

The Brave Hero would fit as a mascot as their design not only fits the Star aesthetic but also keeps in line and references past original characters and has references to not only the franchises in Infinite but the other original characters like Taboo and Master Hand. The Brave Hero also could be considered a throwback to the Dragon King prototype, as Captain Falcon repurposed the work that was done on that and Captain Falcon does have some Tokusatsu elements in his move set (But admittedly that's a stretch.)

Job #146: Submit a Master Class Spirit

We’ve been including Master Class spirits at a surprising rate and we are including even more but expanding the franchises that has yet to receive one. So far, the following series has at least one Spirit in Infinite:

  • Mario Bros.
  • Donkey Kong
  • The Legend of Zelda
  • Metroid
  • Star Fox
  • Pokemon
  • F-Zero
  • Fire Emblem
  • WarioWare
  • Kid Icarus
  • Pikmin
  • Animal Crossing
  • Wii Fit
  • Punch-Out!!
  • Xenoblade Chronicles
  • Splatoon
  • Rhythm Heaven
  • Mole Mania
  • Astral Chain
  • Sonic the Hedgehog
  • Mega Man
  • Street Fighter
  • Persona
  • Fatal Fury
  • Minecraft

We will be shifting our attention to franchises that’s currently repped by a fighter which doesn’t have a Master Class Spirit yet. This includes the following eligible franchises:

  • Kirby
  • Yoshi
  • Earthbound/MOTHER
  • Metal Gear Solid
  • Mii-related Franchises
  • Pac-Man
  • Final Fantasy
  • Bayonetta
  • Castlevania
  • Dragon Quest
  • Banjo-Kazooie
  • ARMS
  • Tekken
  • Golden Sun
  • Crash Bandicoot
  • Style Savvy
  • Resident Evil
  • Mysterious Castle Marusame
  • Touhou Project
You may upgrade an Ultimate or Infinite Spirit.

For obvious reasons, we will forgo Game & Watch, Ice Climbers, and Duck Hunt due to a lack of content.

Master Class Spirits can consist of Gym, Explore, Dojo, and Shop Master Spirits. In addition, if your Spirit is something entirely unique that does fit into those categories, please let us know clearly so we can find an appropriate category for it. If you are going this route, please keep it within the confines of realism.

Please provide the following information when submitting a Master Class Spirit:
  1. Name
  2. Series
  3. What Master Class Spirit is it?
  4. If applicable, what is the Spirits Dojo, Store, etc.
  5. What does the Spirit do? This is especially true for the Dojo spirits that teach other Spirits.

With that out of the way, I wonder how many characters are left to include in Infinite? We only have a few more spots left and, with a field this large, it’s really hard to pinpoint who will eventually be included. We are just about a third of the half way done as we just finished August and entering into September. So far, only a few characters have generally surprised me such as Stylist, Barista, DJ Octavio, and Marin but…I wonder if future prompts will try to outdo those?

Oh…that’s right!

I never announced our launch date!

Our launch is tentatively the last two weeks of November! We are trying to get within sight of that primetime holiday sales for maximal profits! A more concrete date is forthcoming.

Only move I have a problem with is the neutral B. It seems a bit too complex. I do like that the move doesn't just fail if you play an invalid song, that way you didn't just waste time if you mess up the song on accident.

Also, shame on you guys for not having a song for ⬆⬆⬇⬇⬅➡

EDIT: Easter Egg Suggestion: If Marin plays ⬆⬆⬇⬇⬅➡ vs any Konami Character she gets a free final smash. Usable once per match

Characters tied to Pac-Man’s roulette can be utilized as Master Class spirits.

Master Spirit - PLPD (Pac-Land Police Department) - Facility: Imposter Hunt

Imposter Hunt has you on the lookout for crafty impersonator spirits, catching them before they sell their black market bootleg Traits! Basically, it's an extra set of Spirit battles based upon different fighters in the game, done as if they were never in in the first place - for example a Mario spirit battle would have you fight Ness on Castle Siege, with Ramblin' Evil Mushrooms substituting for Mario's iconic Super Mushrooms while the Windy Hill Zone theme replicates that iconic SMB sound. Imposter spirits aren't ranked with stars and can't be used in battle - they're just fun extra challenges for Spirit Battle nuts. We could perhaps give some kind of reward for beating all the Mappy challenges, but I'm not sure what - though I'd want it to be tied to the Mappy universe.

While Golden Sun and other new universes (Style Savvy, the Mysterious Murasame Castle, Crash Bandicoot, Resident Evil, and Touhou Project) introduced in Infinite aren't listed among the universes without a Master Spirit, I'm going to assume they are eligible.

Briggs
Pirate Ship
Golden Sun: the Lost Age
Spirit Battle (Wishing Stars)

Briggs, the leader of the Champa Pirates that ravage the coastal lands of the Great Eastern Sea, heads a new type of facility: the Pirate Ship. Before becoming a dreaded pirate, he was a prodigious fisherman who was known for his work ethic and... cowardice. However, with the loss of the Elemental Stars, the waters around Champa began to warm up, causing the town to lose its main source of food and income. Briggs became the captain of the pirates who stole to sustain their town. He is fought as a boss encounter by Felix and his party. 30 years later, his son Eoleo joins Matthew's party to stop the Grave Eclipse.

Briggs should be the Master Spirit for the Golden Sun series as he is a major NPC (and a boss) in 2 of the three games. His exploits directly impact both of these games. Because of his shenanigans as a pirate, the player is able to recruit two party members associated with Briggs in some way - Piers (a sailor mistaken for one of Briggs's party) in the Lost Age and Eoleo (Briggs's son and the Prince of Champa who is slated for execution) in Dark Dawn. He also leads the player to the Forge of Ankohl, which is able to create both powerful weapons and plot important items. In Dark Dawn, he defends Matthew's party from monsters of the Eclipse - thus giving them the route to escape it and find an end to the Eclipse. Clearly, despite not being part of the party in his appearances, he is an important NPC whose influence directly benefits the player and the party.

The Pirate Ship is a new facility that factors directly into the Wishing Stars mode. As stated before, in order to craft these precious Wishing Stars, you will need some shards. But... what if you don't feel like collecting shards the hard way? What if you could just... get them another way? This is where Mr. Briggs of Champa comes in - he'll go plundering with his crew to get you what you need. For a price of course. So to reiterate, for a certain price and perhaps some additions to his crew, Briggs will go searching for some Wish Shards for you, the player. Certain types of spirits will affect the chance that Briggs will return with specific type of Shard. As a little bonus, spirits who work as crewmates will gain a little bit of experience, though not as much as Doc Louis's gym. These explorations will take around 30 minutes (for less pay and lower ranking spirits) to an hour (higher pay and high ranking spirits) to complete. Here's a tentative list of what Briggs will accept - the greater pay and the better the crewmate, the likelier he will come back with the spoils.

Pay / SpiritBriggs' Plundering Chance
100G5% of at least one Shard
250G12.5% of at least one Shard

Master Spirit: Shopkeeper Magolor

Shopkeeper Magolor
Magolor's Shoppe
Team Kirby Clash Deluxe
Spirit Battle
Max Happy Town!!

Hailing from Team Kirby Clash Deluxe, Shopkeeper Magolor is a merchant who sells you pieces of armor and weapon for four different classes, with the later tiers of equipment referencing other Kirby character in some really nice pieces of fan service. While in canon he sells weapons and armor, the Sheldon spirit already sells weapons, and the Anna spirit already sells armored spirits, so Shopkeeper Magolor will have to go own a different avenue. As shown in his spirit art, Shopkeeper Magolor also has an association with gem apples, even being referenced in Magolor's dream friend moveset in Kirby Star Allies. To expand on this connection, Shopkeeper Magolor will sell fruit and gem related spirits. The list of spirits available at his shoppe include (but not necessarily limited to):
  • Xananab
  • Diancie
  • Piantas
  • Super Happy Tree
  • Whispy Woods
  • Appletun
  • Bonus Fruit
  • Double Cherry
  • Core Crystal
  • Golden Eggs
  • Winged Strawberry
  • King Boo (Luigi's Mansion)
  • Crystal Man
  • Warden
  • Sableye
  • Uncle Rupee
  • Krystal
  • Shion Uzuki
  • Gebel
  • Team Kirby
Luckily for me, I already made a spirit battle for Shopkeeper Magolor back during the Kirby spirit period, so I don't have to make another one. Kirby is one of Nintendo's biggest franchises, and is now one of the series with the most spirits, so its odd that Kirby is lacking a master spirit. Shopkeeper Magolor makes perfect sense for another Merchant spirit and is able to sell spirits not covered by the other merchants. so vote for greedy cat orb thing

Cid would teach the Dragoon Style to spirits

This would increase attack reach and jump height, but decrease Knockback resistance and movement speed

this would be an upgrade from Ultimate

So with the hints you've given us thus far...the next job's probably involving adding a new fighter from the West.

We will be releasing the results of the NPC guide for Wishing Stars as well as preparing a Google Form for the Master Class spirits. You can except posts regarding those later on in the evening from one or more of the leadership team.

That being said, we have some interesting developments with both the Sakurai and Nintendo Twitter accounts posting about incoming news…

It loosely translates to “For a surprise announcement, we will be airing a Newcomer Reveal today!” with both the Nintendo of Japan and their international branches. However, the first to tweet out the message was in fact Nintendo of America…

The announcement was a 8 minute video showcasing information regarding Super Smash Bros. which not only revealed a new upcoming character but a Smash Infinite related event. The reveal was unique as, unlike previous ones, it was initially announced several hours prior to the reveal which caused both Smashers and streamers to rush to prepare for the upcoming reveal. While a character was explicably announced prior, most speculated it would be. Sakurai first appeared and said that Smash Infinite will be launched in the last half of November, just in time for the holiday season and development has all but winded down and the team is busy at work on finetuning content. He also announced that following the reveal, there will be a special event announcement...

Job #147: Submit a Character that is from a Western IP

To date, we currently have one character in the game that is from a Western IP and that character is Crash who was revealed at E3 20xx; a year before Officer Howard and Dr. Eggman was revealed. We will be adding a second one in to round our roster off. Remember, this character is, for all intents and purposes, a special announcement as they had a dedicated twitter announcement presented by Sakurai as well as a special event announcement afterward. Based on feedback, the development team wanted to see another Western character be included in the base roster and the leadership team felt that including one at this point in time was ideal. Being revealed along with a big event announcement is quite a big deal so let:s see some submissions that measures up to this.

Here are the requirements:
  • The character may be from either Rare or Microsoft but may not be from Banjo-Kazooie or Minecraft.
  • Activision is out
  • Including this character will disallow that company/franchise from getting a second unique character.
  • The character must be from a series that has at least 1 or more games that appeared on a Nintendo system
  • The character should ideally be well-known and able to generate hype (going along with the whole twitter announcement)
  • The reveal trailer, for the time being, will only be accessible via Twitter due in part to the Twitter deal. This may or may not be taken into account when submitting a character but its worth keeping in mind
  • The character, when developed, will be rather unique with a Ultimate DLC-like moveset. This should be kept in mind when submitting the character.
  • The Leadership Team can veto submissions that do not follow these requirements
When submitting content, please provide the following information:
  • Name
  • Image
  • Series
  • Reason why the character should be included. This can highlight why they are important to be included and how they could be unique.
  • Finally, for fun, please provide some information on how Smashers would react to this news. As mentioned earlier, this was an unique announcement and took people unaware. How do you think streamers and fans would react to this news? You can even provide a particular streamer and "narrate" how they would react (Aaronitmar going "whhhhhhhaaaaaat?!", Rogersbases and Hungrybox screaming till the end of time, or MaxDude throwing the F-word three times in one sentence, etc.) Again, this is purely for fun and to keep submissions entertaining to read.
As for the big event announcement, well, we will jump into that after we decide who we are including ;)

EDIT: On a side note, I never got to submit my Master Class spirit idea. Maybe next time. We need The Duke as a merchant.

Increased Twitter video to 8 minutes to accommodate the event video, decreased the game requirement from 2 to 1. Side games and off-shoots as well as cameos do not count

job #147: sans from the undertale series

Sans.png

hey it's sans from undertale. he's not the main character or anything, but he sure has a bony prominence in undertale.

what is undertale?

undertale is an rpg/bullet hell hybrid indie game developed by toby fox that is quite possibly one of the most iconic indie games of modern, if not all time. the player falls through mt. ebott into the underground, a world sealed away by humans inhabited by monsters. throughout the game, the player must trudge through hordes of monsters but they have the choice to fight and kill them or make peace with them. the game is know for its tendency to break the fourth wall a lot.

who is sans?

sans is by far the most popular character in undertale and he's definitely got a bone to pick with the world of smash bros. since his last appearance as a costume. while throughout a standard run of the game, he comes off as a lazy and uninspiring skeleton with a knack for jokes and his relationship with his brother papyrus, his real story prominence comes in the genocide route when you have successfully killed all the monsters in the game. he is known for his iconic battle theme already remixed in ultimate, megalovania, a recurring theme from toby fox.

what could sans bring to smash?

sans would most definitely be one of the lightest characters in the game but he would be the definition if a glass cannon. his attacks could primarily be based off of both his frequent gags and his iconic boss battle. an idea i had was to give him a karma meter. in undertale, karma was a mechanic the player would have to fight through against sans which made every attack deal damage over time to counteract his otherwise weak attacks. while it would be impossible to translate this mehcanic 1:1 to smash, perhaps there are some adaptational liberties that could be done to replicate the ferocity sans can show while also giving his overall moveset a comical flair.

people who vouch for sans in smash

"he is worthy of fighting for smash because he is the best brother ever"
- papyrus, definitely not sans

Leaked HungryBox trailer reaction: "Who is it? Who is it!!??... Snow? Is it Kratos?... AAAAAAAAAAAHH OOOH NOOOO WAAAAY OH MY GOOOOD, OOOOH MYY GOOOOOD, AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA-- (broadcast has ended)

The Recruit (Fortnite)

Infamy is still famous, and A Fortnite character is definitely infamous among smash circles

The Recruits are the Default skins in Fortnite, Fortnite took the whole world by storm in 2018 and as such created a phenomenon of Battle Royale games, The Defaults are the most seen skins and most other skins are derived from these characters.

A Fortnite character could bring some unique playstyles that enhance the concepts brought up with characters like Steve and Joker. The Recruit would be able to use many different firearms and abilities and can also build structures that give them a competitive advantage. The Recruit would be heavier but not slow and has a good jump, their move set could revolve around item management and pure survival.

If the Recruit got in, The reaction would be so varied all around, Some people would absolutely love the inclusion, while others think of it as the second coming of Satan. It would definitely provide some of the most interesting reaction videos. But what is smash without a little controversy?

(there have been different recruits not to mention the hundreds of other skins so these 8 are not the only ones, The picture just conveys the character better, I'm not saying these should be the alts, Although Jonesy and Ramirez would be the first 2 costumes due to their status in the games)

Friggin' called it. And I know just the candidate.

Job 147:

Now before I begin...a short history lesson from yours truly.

ahem...

"In the first age...in the first battle...when the shadows first lengthened...one stood.

Burned by the embers of Armageddon, his soul blistered by the fires of Hell and tainted beyond ascension, he chose the path of perpetual torment.

In his ravenous hatred, he found no peace; and with boiling blood, he scoured the Umbral Plains, seeking vengeance against the Dark Lords who had wronged him.

He wore the crown of the Night Sentinels...and those who tasted the bite of his sword named him...

THE DOOM SLAYER."
1628740983483.png

The man, the legend. The Doom Slayer is the protagonist of the long-running FPS franchise Doom, which bolstered the genre to legendary levels long before Xbox hit the scene across the globe (Let alone its own influential FPS Halo). The franchise has an entire following dedicated to modding, fan works, and just plain ol' demon-murder. Nintendo and Doom have had a history dating back to Doom for SNES, then solidified with Doom 64, before becoming stronger than ever thanks to pretty much the entire Doom library being added to the Nintendo Switch. Support for him being in Smash only SKYROCKETED when the Impossible Port that is Doom 2016 for Switch happened, and with such strong support since then, Doom Slayer not being in Smash Bros is a damn travesty. I feel Smash Infinite should most certainly remedy that.

The fan reactions online would GLORY KILL Twitter servers across the globe, though not to the extent of Steve and Banjo. As for the internet celebrities, on the Western side of things, Vargskelethor Joel would have the biggest reaction to it since Sans' Mii Costume reveal, with him almost passing out onstream from laughter, to boot. Meanwhile, in Japan, Inugami Korone would be squeaking in absolute joy over the big man himself getting into Smash, with "DOOG" flooding the chat from the raw hype. These are but two of many global reactions of raw, unadulterated joy over the fact that the Doom Slayer joins the battle.

Freddy Fazbear jumpscares into battle

Who is Freddy Fazbear
Freddy Fazbear is the mascot of the titular Five Nights at Freddy's (or FNAF for short). Freddy's series alongside Resident Evil is considered one of the most popular horror franchises on the world, spawning various games including an rpg, vr, and augmented reality mobile game. And once the FNAF classic games were realsed on switch a new generation of players can experience his complex lore that would bring Kingdom Hearts to shame.

Why should he be here
As stated his franchise is considered a very iconic force in the horror genra, considering we also have a horror protagonist in Clair and Chris, we should have a horror antagonist in the fold as well. But since Freddy also has the benefit of being a pizzeria mascot he could also show players that you dont need gore to be scarry, but dread and tense fear as well.

How would he play
Being a heavy animatronic, Freddy would be an extremely heavy and slow player, even more so than ganondorf, he would use a variety of diversionary tactics like teleporting and messing with opponents vision to be able to get the jump on his opponents while also using his band mate equipment as more practical weapons, of course since his main attack is the jumpscare he could also give opponents a sort of panic meter that inpares them in some way or another.

Reactions

Matpat: Finnally after 5 years my FNAF timeline is complete, (sees anoucment), oh man, well I guess Kirby is no longer the scariest fighter in smash.

Does Australia count as "Western" in this context? If not, I have an alternate idea, though it would be from the same series as someone else's submission.

I looked it up, and as it turns out it IS a Western country despite Sydney being further East than Tokyo. Feel free to suggest Hollow Knight or whoever else is from Australia.

Character that is from a Western IP

The Knight (Hollow Knight)

Created by Australia's Team Cherry, here comes the Knight, the cutest and deadliest vessel of darkness you've ever seen! They can slice and dice through enemies with their nail before plunging them into the void, but why should they be given a chance to do that?

Popularity: Literally yesterday (it's a quarter past midnight in my time zone), the game's sequel was trending on Twitter because people expected to see it at Indie World and were disappointed it wasn't. That says it all right there.

Gameplay: The Knight would be a short and quick swordfighter with access to various magic attacks themed around spirits and/or darkness (and we need more darkness fighters). Their moveset would focus on darting in and out with well-timed attacks, and they would have a unique mechanic--Soul. By landing attacks, they fill a gauge that is used to fuel their magic attacks (either as a necessity to use them or just to power them up into their void versions).

Reception: Hollow Knight is, again, very popular, so the reaction would be largely positive. Jokes about their similarities to Kirby (adorable gender-neutral godslayers) would multiply, accompanied by jokes about how this is somehow happening before Silksong's release. Indie enthusiasts in particular would be ecstatic at the one-two punch of Reimu and the Knight. There would be complaints about "another swordfighter," but approximately 80% of them would be ironic.

I have a question before submitting my character suggestion - will I need to submit a moveset for him later? Because i don't think I can do that.

Not necessarily. Anyone is able to write and submit a moveset for the accepted character, and there's no rule the submitter is required to do so themself.

That used to be the case: we just suggest portions of the moveset now. Like when we were making Eggman's moveset, I suggested a Neutral Special that summons Badniks.

EDIT: Drat, :ultgreninja:'d
