Thank you to everyone who submitted masterpieces! Given the massive extent that our roster, and even the Ultimate roster has gotten to, its nice to show some respect to the roots of the fighters which can sometimes be overlooked.
"Wario Land" is listed here. The submission was Virtual Boy Wario Land, not Super Mario Land 3: Wario Land, the game usually implied when "Wario Land" is said alone.

The Virtual Boy was unfortunately ineligible for submissions (the consoles that were eligible were NES, SNES, GB, GBC, and N64) and as such the Leadership Team elected to opt for the Game Boy Wario Land. If we do end up adding in Virtual Boy content later, we can revisit this submission for Virtual Boy Wario Land. Sorry for any inconvenience!

Sounds like we gotta go back to that one idea of adding Virtual Boy as a playable character...

Did you inform Glubbfubb about this? You should've at least got permission to change the game first. VBWL is not a port in any means of the word so this is a very major change.

Also, why is Revelations: Persona allowed but Virtual Boy Wario Land not?

The Nintendo consoles listed were all that could be submitted from Nintendo wise, however third party consoles were allowed if they were from the same time frame which is why Revelations: Persona was allowed and VBWL was not. Additionally we decided that while it made sense to give Wario a masterpeice, even if Virtual Boy games were allowed, it would make more sense to include the first Wario Land, since its the first. (we may be modifying the list for other titles that aren’t the first/most important)

That being said, Glubbfubb Glubbfubb you may submit a replacement masterpiece, although Wario Land (GB) will be included even if you choose not to.

This game starts at the menu with all unlockables unlocked giving a brief taste of the full experience, adds some representation to mr game and watch.

Also I'm okay with my submission being replaced as it's the perfect opportunity to request virtual boy for smash when the opportunity arises

Included in this list is Game & Watch Gallery (GB). I apologize for my mistake, I should of caught that.

While not entirely a new game mode, we will be shifting gears a bit and focusing a little on Spirits. We will be showcasing several new Master Class Spirits!

Job #118: Submit a Master Class Spirit that Teaches a New Dojo Style

In Smash Ultimate, Master Class Spirits often fill a role which included shop keepers and trainers. Trainers were particularly helpful in strengthening your Spirits in certain ways, Considering Spirits are still live and active in Infinite, this is no exception. We will be including several new Master Class Spirits which will teach a new Style to a Spirit.

You can view the list of Dojo Master Class Spirits here.

Ultimate's DLC franchises (Persona, Dragon Quest, Banjo-Kazooie, Fatal Fury, King of Fighters, and Minecraft) are all available to have a Master Class Spirit as does Infinite's new franchise (Golden Sun, Crash Bandicoot, Style Savvy, Rhythm Heaven, Resident Evil, Mysterious Castle Murasame, Tetris, Nintendo Land, Pus Land, Celeste, Nintendo Badge Arcade, and Art Academy). Current characters who are Spirits are ineligible to be promoted to Master Class. You can view the current list here.

When submitting, please provide the following information:
  • Name
  • Franchise
  • New Dojo Style Name
  • New Dojo description and use
  • Why is this character deserving to be a Master Class Spirit.

Resubmitting Manuela

Job 77

Manuela (Fire Emblem Three Houses)

Manuela would teach your spirits the Bard Style, The Bard style would see a decrease in defense and damage but you would see an increase in recovery items and abilities effectiveness, and an increase in range for Up specials.
  • Puppet Fighter: :ultpalutena: Default
  • Stage: Garreg Mach (Omega)
  • Music Track: Blue Skies and a Battle
  • Match: 1Stock
  • Conditions:
    • Controls will sometimes reverse
    • Slumber Floor
    • Healing Items will spawn
    • The enemy likes to use special moves

Kangaroon
Mole Mania

Dojo style: Kangaroo Style - makes you the ultimate air sparrer, and gives you a mighty pouch to boot. However, boxing kangaroos have pretty skinny tails; aren't ones for projectiles (other than apples) and don't really walk.

BGM: Beach - Mole Mania

Pros:
Fall speed down
Air speed up
Fist attack up
Absorption strength up

Cons:
Weight down
Land speed down
Tail strength down
Projectile length down

Why should Kangaroon be a master spirit?
There are as of yet no Master Spirits for non-playable universes. Master Spirits could be seen as "lesser" than regular Spirits by some due to not being directly used in battle, so Muddy and Jinbe getting regular Spirit spots while Kangaroon is a master makes sense.

Merlon (Paper Mario)

Prophecy Style
Propechy Style is the art of learning the attacks your opponent can use ahead of time, by using a certain button combination you can perfectly dodge a characters attack and immediately counter it using the power of the pure hearts and attack straight into the soul, unforunalty this causes great strain and you take damage everytime you use this technique and can be fatal if you use it over 200

Merlon is an underated mentor character across the paper mario series and this particular incarnation is the most recognizable, being from a cult game this can give a nice reference for those who played the game

New Master Class Spirit!

Marie
(Persona 4 Golden)

Marie is a new character introduce in Persona 4 Golden, an enchanced port of Persona 4 in similar vein to Persona 5 Royal, like Persona 5 Royal each game introduce a new character and usually put much emphasis on them during the course of your gameplay usually started when they bump into you during the prologue of the game making them a prominent character than even the rest of the original cast.

While her role being a Velvet Room Attendant means that she can't be your party member you can only met her whilst on your free time if you are not exploring the dungeon or visiting the Velvet Room, she is probably the game's major figure in the story of Persona 4 once you are deep into the game and uncover the mystery one by one to which she is revealed to be a part of Izanami, the true main antagonist alongside Kusumi who was split apart.
Dojo Style: Weather Style
Upon training in her Dojo she will give your spirit a boost in elemental attacks like fire, lightning and ice, not only that she also gives you a benefit of resistance to Lava Floor, Ice Floor, and Electric Floor to which you will able to stand without taking any damage for a small periods of time and save you the extra slot for another spirit to equip (if you upgrade the ones that doesn't have the floor resistance and immunity effect). This a reference to her gameplay in Persona 4 Arena to which she be able to control the weather and use it to her advantage.

This doesn't mean her Style won't come without a drawback however as upon learning you are hit by a decrease in physical attack, throws and grabs referencing her fragile personality hidden behind her eccentric demeanor.

Spirit Battle
Marie (Persona 4 Golden)
Type: Master
  • Puppet Fighter: Stylist
  • Stage: Distant Planet (Battlefield, Rainstorm)
  • Music Track: The Poem for Everyone's Souls/Aria of the Souls
  • Match: Stock (1)
  • Conditions:
    • Hostile Assist Trophy will appear (Phosphora)
    • Fog appeared
    • The floor is electrified

"And that concludes my Dojo, come again soon!"

I'll be resubmitting this one for this next job, Job 118.

Job #77: New Master Spirit

Submission: Zenkichi Hasegawa (Persona Series)

from Persona 5 Strikers (2021)

View attachment 308717

Function: Teach spirits "Officer Style" - Major increase to grabs, specials, and defense, but a major decrease to speed and non-grab, non-special attacks.

Puppet Fighter: Sephiroth; Ganondorf (Gray Alt); Two tiny Wolfs
Conditions:
-
The enemy's neutral special has increased power
-Defeat the main fighter to win
The enemy starts the battle with a Steel Diver
The enemy constantly takes minor damage
The enemy heals when it damages you.
Type: Uh... Master Class. No type.
Stage: Mementos - Omega version (Persona 5 version) - only Zenkichi himself will appear in the background.
Music: Counter Strike - Persona 5 Strikers

P5S Spoilers:
Sephiroth represents Zenkichi himself in his Phantom Thief persona, Wolf, with the focus on neutral special representing his affinity to Megido, the most powerful and dangerous elemental type in the Persona series. Ganondorf represents Valjean, his Persona. The Wolves act both as an homage to his Phantom Thief codename as well as the fact he dual-wields pistols; they only use their neutral special and are invisible. Lastly, the constant minor damage and healing when he damages you reference his Fury mode - which acts exactly as specified.)

Job #118: Master Spirit
Tung Fu Rue (Fatal Fury)

Tung_Fu_Rue_special.png

Tung Fu Rue is a Fatal Fury character who debuted in the first ever Fatal Fury game. Canonically in the Fatal Fury and King of Fighters series, he is a master of Hakkyokuseiken martial arts and he's the one to not only train Terry and Andy Bogard, but characters like Geese, Jeff Bogard, Shun'ei and Meitenkun as well. Given the many iconic characters he's had under his wings, I think it's fair to say that out of all Fatal Fury characters, he's the most suited to teach. In his Dojo, he will teach Spirits the famous Hakkyokuseiken style!

Now what would the Hakkyokuseiken style entail? In the games, it is a fighting style used by characters like Terry, Geese and Tung that contains a mixture of traditional martial art styles and energy flow. Each individual fighter uses it with his own fighting style. For example Tung uses it with various Chinese kung fu styles, Geese Howard incorporates it with his traditional Japanese martial arts, Terry uses it with his unique style of street fighting, etc.

In Smash, however, they'll try to simulate that Fatal Fury feel. Attack Power and Special Attack Power would be boosted, but both Jump and Item Attack would see a decrease in power. This way you'd have the benefit of having both upped energy and feel a mastery in your offensive moves, which the Hakkyokuseiken is all about! But you'll be forced to follow the rules of a Traditional Fighting game a bit.

Master Spirit: Aurorus (Pokémon: X and Y)

1623071518973.png

Aurorus is a sauropod like Pokémon known to live in colder terrains and can only evolve at night. Since it’s role as a Pokéball Pokémon got snubbed, I’m giving it a new role in the master Spirit group.

It will teach Freeze Style

Freeze Style will make it so you can walk better on slippery stages like Summit. It will increase your Projectile Attack, Melee Defence and Speed, but it reduces Jump and Air Attack.

Spirit: Aurorus
Game Debut: Pokémon: X and Y
Spirit Type: Master Spirit
Spirit Battle: Giant Blue:ultyoshi:
Rules: The Enemy is Giant
The enemy starts with Snowflakes
Random Items will fall (Snowflakes and Freezies)

Your moves will be super effective against the spirits you fight.

Job 118: Wandering Trader
from the Minecraft series

trader.png

Meet the Wandering Trader from Minecraft. He travels the world with his trusty Llamas selling his goods to players wherever they need them. Well, that's what he would be doing if his deals were any good and he was capable at fighting. Instead of combatting the nasty Zombies and Pillagers that try and halt him, he says "Bottoms up," and drinks an Invisibility Potion. The style that he will teach will be the Nomadic Style.

Nomadic Style

As a reference to the Wandering Trader's tactics when dealing with enemy mobs, spirits taught the Nomadic Style will see an increase in speed but a slight decrease in jump height and a colossal decrease in attack. There is a circumvention for the lowered attack however. The damage of thrown items or weapon items will be increased to a titanic degree that they will overpower the attack decrease and become insanely strong. The focus will be on using items to fight your opponent instead of fighting with your character's moveset.

Job 118: Yuna
Final Fantasy series

Yuna is the central protagonist from the critically acclaimed Final Fantasy X. A summoner, she was tasked with awakening the Aeons around Spira and utilized various kinds of white and holy magic along with the ability to summon the Aeons in battle. She teaches the Summoner Style.

Summoner Style

Given Yuna’a strong association with the summoning ability, this gives the Spirit who trains in her dojo increased damage output when fighting against an Assist Trophy as well as increased duration and attack damage output for an Assist Trophy summoned in battle by 1/2. As a trade off though, the Spirits defense and knockback resistance is reduced due to thaw fact that summoners typically rely on their teammates rather than fighting on the front lines.

Yuna
Type: Master

  • Stage: Tortimer’s Island
  • Music Track: Overworld (Final Fantasy X)
  • Match: Stock (2)
  • Conditions:
    • Stock Battle.

Job #119: Bayonetta and Miitopia Mii Costumes
To further fill out our mii costume selection, we will be adding mii costumes from the Bayonetta and Miitopia series. You may submit one from each series, and they do not have to be contained to the same post. Please provide a description of the costume and headpiece, the class of the mii costume (brawler/swordfighter/gunner), and why you think this deserves to be the chosen mii costume.

JOB 119: Cat (Miitopia) (Brawler costume)

Cat is one of the many jobs (AKA classes) that a Miitopia player can choose to give to their Mii's. Cat is one of the more popular ones. It's also pretty unique compared to other Mii Costumes currently in the game, as we don't yet have a feline costume. Also it technically counts as furry representation in a Smash game which is an automatic plus in my book.
Loki (Bayonetta) (Brawler)

Loki is a very popular character within the Bayonetta fandom. He is also decently well known to Smash players given his Spirit presence in Ultimate. He also looks really cool.

As we all know, E3 is right around the corner and with that comes a potential Smash reveal. Thankfully, we managed to fair well when Pyra was revealed but this may be different. Here is how things will go down if either one of them are included:

Crash
Bypass Phoenix (2) as we decided to include Jill/Leon and add in Dr Eggman (3). If Dr. Eggman is revealed as the last fighter, we will go with Lloyd (4). Shadiw’s future as an Echo is questionable. We will keep our Crash related content as we created it but will submit Sonic or Tales related content retroactively.

Bandana Dee
If Bandana Dee is included, we will conduct a vote to include the third place slot with is Paper Mario and Impa. Pyra was second place but grouped with Rex.

Stylist
If Stylist magically gets in, we will use the second place, Ayumi Tachibana.

Rhythm Heaven
If we get a Rhythm Heaven character other than Barista, we will then move to the second place. This is due to the possibility that the RH rep would probably function like Barista. The question also pops up if RH needs two reps. If we to decide to go this route, then the runner up would be Astral Chain where we would then vote on the newcomer rep for that series. If Astral Chain is the last fighter, than Ring Fit Adventure/Chibi Robo is up via a poll.

Grovyle & Celebi
If Grovyle & Celebi somehow magically surpasses a Gen 8 newcomer for Ultimate dlc, then we will move down the line and include Mimikyu. Pokémon Mystery Dungeon content can stay. It would probably suffice to say we would include a Gen 7 stage since we would have two reps: Incineroar and Mimikyu

DJ Octavio
If our DJing squid gets in as DLC, Porky Minch would be included to replace as he was second place. If he is confirmed as the last fighter, than Max Brass is up. Regardless, we would probably forgo a new Mother stage unless there is a huge call for it but we could look to include a second ARMS stage. Deepsea Metro can stay as is.

You may have I noticed but I left out the following:
Isaac
Octoling
Waluigi
Ashley
Jill
Leon
Takamaru
Galacta Knight

That is because some of them are currently Assist Trophies and, unless we have a precedence, I consider these still a hard confirm. I don’t see them getting upgraded to be playable hence why they weren’t included. For Jill and Leon, they were added as Spirits and we do have a precedence set with Pyra, Mythra, and Min Min but that was Spirits in the base game. Jill and Leon were added much later as post-game Spirit events. For this reason, I’m not included Jill and Leon in this list. That being said, if they are included, I believe Ohoenix would be up. We would then have to decide on an Echo fighter or to keep Leon or Jill depending on who from RE was included. Talking of Echo Fighters, I also didn’t mention Infinite ones as we don’t have Echo DLC and I’m willing to bet money that these characters would probably not become DLC standalone characters.

Waluigi isn’t exactly a high contender for inclusion in my opinion but if he somehow made it as one of the last two fighters, we will either replace him with an Assist Trophy promotion (as I stated previously earlier in the thread), a Mario character, hold an emergency newcomer submission, or elect one of our previously revealed fighters and bump them up to the E3 slot. I don’t like doing this sort of thing but it’s a special circumstance. I don’t think we need to worry about Isaac, Ashley, or Takamaru personally.

Miitopia Costume: Great Sage

This costume would be for the Mii Swordfighter. I debated making her a Mii Gunner as she uses spells. If she gets voted in, we can perhaps do a voting session to see which one to include her in as the Mii Gunner section is pretty slim. Her “sword” would be the Great Sage Staff.

Bayonetta Costume: Masked Lumen/Balder

Im not sure why I’m getting some of my pictures to be so small. Anyways, going along with the Sage motif, this is the yet another Mii Swordfighter costume from the character, the Masked Lumen. He is the father of Bayonetta with Bayonetta 1 version being the antagonistic and the Bayonetta 2 version being a time traveler/young version who ultimately aids his daughter r I toyed around with the idea of including two versions: Father Balder and the Masked Lumen but I ultimately went with the masked version as having a mask would be a bit more appropriate for a Mii costume. Going along with the costume would be the Holy Glaive.
