I dont think pokemon would work as a forum game, the only not fighting franchise that might work would be mega man due to the structure allowing for loads of leeway and ideas
Venus already addressed how a Pokemon one would be easy, but I can't see how a Megaman one would work. making levels in text format doesn't seem enjoyable.

He already told me that prior and with mega man we just need ot make the robot masters/Mavericks, what stage they take place complete with a stage gimmick, the weapon they give, and maybe a special game gimmick

Personally, I feel like a Pokemon region would be something I would prefer to do on my lonesome rather than collaboratively. I don't know - compared to a crossover fighting game, Pokemon games have a more unified creative direction. Like, most of Galar's Pokemon are very specific to the region it's based on. Stuff like that.

why exactly does it cost more to include new Nintendo series than old ones? they still own the characters.

For Mii Costumes,

I find it funny how this implies that negotiating for Fortnite Jonesy would cost an equal amount of money as negotiating for Sans Undertale. And not in the sarcastic, snide way - i think it's hilarious. Anyways...

Old Series 1st party x2 - 1.4
Old Series 1st party stage x5 - 2.4
New Mode - 2.95
Old Series 1st party items x5 - 3

plus a few dozen old series 3rd party stages, seeing as they're free.

3rd Party Newcomer from a New Franchise: 1,800,000
1st Party Newcomer from a New Franchise: 990,000 (2,790,000)
1st Party Assist Trophy from an Existing Franchise: 90,000 (2,880,000)

1st Party Item from a New Franchise: 50,000 (3,000,000)

Wanted to put as much emphasis on new content as possible, since that would be the most appealing to fans. Sadly, we don't have anything left over in this plan...

The characters are by far my favorite part of any Smash game and developing characters has been my favorite aspect of Infinite, so I’m gonna suggest...

3rd party newcomer from an existing franchise (2): 1,100,000 x 2 = 2,200,000
1st party newcomer from an existing franchise (1): 700,000
Pokéball Mon (1): 100,000

= 3,000,000 USD

3rd party characters from existing franchises is a pool with limitless potential. Often times, the side characters are the best part of a game. Sonic, Mega Man, Castlevania, Persona, KoF, Metal Gear, etc. all have loads of unique characters that would make fantastic additions. So far Sephiroth is the only example of this concept that we have, and I would love if we went a lot further.

I threw in an extra 1st party character from an existing franchise as we can always use more of those. As well as an extra Pokémon because why not?

  • A third-party from a new franchise. New worlds tend to have a lot of weight behind them, thanks to the secondary content that would accompany the fighter. There's more third-parties to introduce than first-parties at this point, since we've gotten the bulk of Nintendo's heavy-hitters down. This would be 1.8 million.
  • A third-party newcomer from an existing franchise. There's a lot of untapped potential in this area, with only Street Fighter, Castlevania, and Final Fantasy getting that privilege. Out of them, only one is truly original. Let's give other series some love. This would be 1.1 million.
  • There's only a million left, so let's focus on a lesser topic: The items. Let's introduce a new series with the items; Series like Panel de Pon and Clu Clu Land get acknowledged in the form of items, even if they don't have a playable character. This would be 50 thousand.
  • And let's just blow the remaining funds on already-existing first-party items. It's fun coming up with wacky ideas for items. 10 thousand for each, with room for five. This totals out at 50 thousand.
1,800,000+1,100,000+50,000+(10,000 x 5)=3,000,000, spending every last penny.

alright, let's see...

-New 3rd party franchise character ($1,800,000) - These tend to drum up the most excitement.
-Returning 1st party franchise character ($700,000) - There are still a done of options for this, and is the cheapest option for a character
-Returning 1st party franchise stage ($200,000) - Smash games usually add quite a few of these, so why not.
-Returning 1st party franchise item X3 - May as well get as much out of this as possible and coming up with item ideas can be fun

Total: $3,000,000 - Not a penny unspent.

My idea for how we should spend it, tell me if it isnt exact

I wanted to make this so that there could be a little bit for everyone, thoseboth wanting new fighters and new content will be right at home.

1 first party character from an existing franchise
(700 000)
1 third party character from an existing franchise
(1 100 000)
1 first party boss from existing franchises
(280 000)
1 3rd party boss from existing franchises
(450 000)
1 new mode
(550 000)
First Party item from exsting franchise x 6
(60 000)

That means all money spent

I went with the safest option possible: the one that gets us the most new characters.

4 first party newcomers from existing franchises (700,000 x 4 = 2,800,000)

And with the last 200,000, we get ourselves an Assist Trophy from a new first party franchise, let's get some fresh blood for the speculation scene to make into a fan favorite.

If I may, I'd like to game the system a little bit... So far most of our prompts have let us decide on whether a character comes from an old or new franchise, so I think the logical thing to do here is spend our money on the "existing franchise" characters (as they are cheaper) and then get new franchises on the slots we already had beforehand. Plus DLC will probably be heavy on the new franchises anyway, so I wouldn't worry about there not being enough of those.

I have a particular interest in how a theoretical next Smash game would go, and am interested in participating. Could someone please fill me in on how many (and what kinds) of character slots there are available at the moment and how to submit one?

I have a particular interest in how a theoretical next Smash game would go, and am interested in participating. Could someone please fill me in on how many (and what kinds) of character slots there are available at the moment and how to submit one?
we just wrapped up adding a new character (Takamaru), and we're in the kinda boring stage where the people who care about the character fill stuff from the game out while i stand on the sidelines. I'm pretty sure a third party is next on the docket, and we're currently voting on ATs, Mii Costumes, and how to allocate twitter funds (long story).

Hello potential developer!
Welcome to the Super Smash Bros. Ultimate Sequel Project - now known as Super Smash Bros. Infinite! We are very excited to see that you have expressed interest in joining our project. Here are some FAQs regarding our project:

Is this actually going to be a fan game?
Unfortunately, this is just a creative brainstorming project. We are only coming up with ideas on how this game will function, what characters it will have, and how different it will be from its predecessor, Ultimate.

Cool! How do I submit a character/stage/assist trophy/etc.?
This project is run on a job-by-job basis. This means that the thread creator, Venus of the Desert Bloom Venus of the Desert Bloom or the Executive Assistants, ( Ramen Tengoku Ramen Tengoku , Mr. Robotto Mr. Robotto , and Krookodilian Krookodilian ) will be providing prompts regularly for us developers to answer. These prompts can range from specific (Submit a Halloween Themed character) to vague (Suggest a new first-party franchise for our next character). Once some time has passed after the prompt is given, we will vote on the suggestions, with the winning suggestion(s) making it to the final game. This means that we won't have the opportunity to suggest characters/stages/etc. until the prompt itself is given to us. Furthermore, when we do add characters, keep in mind that we try to keep the newcomers different. For example, after having Jill & Leon as our Game Awards newcomers, we were unable to submit Officer Howard as our next newcomer because they would be too similar (anime cop with a gun that kills otherworldly monsters). This doesn't mean that you would not be able to suggest them again later, it just means we can't have two similar characters back to back. Again, we will have specific times to suggest characters, so please hold onto your ideas for then!

What about Spirits and Music?
As with other parts of the game, we will be submitting spirits on a case-by-case basis, in order to account for the work our Spirit Team does. The two main times we will submit spirits will be after a new character is revealed and when a spirit event is made. Spirit events are week long submissions that are themed around a particular... theme. This can be things like holidays, such as Easter, genres, such as fighting games, to more abstract concepts, like inanimate objects. We do have set rules, about submitting spirits, however. During spirit events, we will only accept 3 submissions per user and each submission is approved based on the discretion of the Spirit Team. Some examples of spirits that will be rejected are real life hardware, such as gaming consoles and accessories, spirits with no official art, and spirits that will increase the age rating. Additionally, when submitting spirits, it is highly encouraged to follow the format listed below to provide the Spirits Team with the information required to add them to the wiki.
While we're on the topic of submitting spirits I just want to mention the formatting of spirit posts. Right now the way that the inforamtion for a spirit battle is displayed varies depending on the submitter, so its not very cohesive, and some are missing information or use inconsistent language to describe the same things. This is the format I use and Venus has encouraged others to adopt it as well.

[Picture][Name] [(Game of Origin)]
Class:
Type: [Primary/Support)(Attack/Shield/Grab), # of slots
Effect:
  • Puppet Fighter: Fighter (Describe which alt)
  • Stage:
  • Music Track:
  • Match:
  • Conditions:
For Example: (This is a spirit I submitted already so it doesn't need to be added again)
Lana (Legend of Zelda: Hyrule Warriors)
Class: Ace
Type: Primary Shield, 2 Slots
Effect: Electric Attack ↑
  • Puppet Fighter: Robin (Blue)
  • Stage: Temple
  • Music Track: Push Forward
  • Match: Stock (1)
  • Conditions: The enemy favors neutral special, Hazard: Zap Floor

Here are some resources that I use when making my spirits that helps with keeping the skills they have accurate, as well as not creating a spirit thats already in the game.

I use this one to see which traits come alongside primary spirits

I use this to see which effects can be given by support spirits.

I use this to see what the in game text is for certain conditions.

I've also found that the Mario wiki has the most viewable list of already existing spirits, with the spirit battle details alongside it for inspiration.

I think that using the Wikia and the already existing google sheets will work going forward. Another thing to think about if we're regulating spirit submissions is that right now quite a few spirits use in the game sprite as their spirit art. There is precedent in Smash Ultimate for this happening with the Mother, Ice Climber, and Pac-Man series using in game sprites but usually if there's no official art of the character then its likely that they're not the kind of character who would get a spirit.

Personally I think R.O.B. is an exception and should be the only real world spirit since he's a fighter.
In terms of music, we have a document on the main page. Music will be added periodically to prevent the document from filling up too fast. Each universe has a cap number, such as 40, that will be the maximum number of allowed songs. Additionally, this cap will be capped by a second, temporary cap, so you it is presented as 15/40. This means that of the 40 songs that will be added throughout the project's lifespan, only 15 will be accepted at the moment. This cap is raised every so often, and the maximum may be increased by adding a stage/character to the project later on. Like with spirits, we will be accepting music on a case-by-case basis. Songs that have difficulty negotiating for, songs with little to no relation with Nintendo or the characters in the project, or series with too many songs will be removed. Fan remixes are allowed, provided you give credit.

Wait, a wiki?
Yeah, we have a cool wiki. You'll find almost everything related to the project on this site.

That's about all I can think of for the project right now! Please enjoy your stay and we look forward to working with you!

It should noted that if we settle on a newcomer or two, we'll still have to seperately pay for their extra content like stage or assist.

So if we want to add a character from a new franchise or whatever, I think we should keep that in mind while budgeting, otherwise their presence may feel a bit incomplete.

Not to be too off-topic, but where in the hell did this whole Twitter thing even come from? The concept of it being in a Smash title is a little... Far-fetched, don't you think?

Miiverse was one thing, being a social network owned and operated by Nintendo, but Twitter? I don't really see how this is beneficial to Nintendo in any capacity. They certainly don't need the extra revenue to do anything with it.

Venus had us do a job for implementation of compatability with another website. A Twitter version of the Miiverse stage won.

Forgive my lack of suspension of disbelief, but I just can't wrap my head around how this would even be considered by any party involved in the theoretical development of this hypothetical game.

Not that there's anything I can do about it, but I'm just expressing an opinion. Shrugs

I've seen weirder product placement.

I mean I have too, Nichijou straight up mentions Snickers by name for literally no reason.

That said, Smash seems to be all about gaming product placement specifically. Eh, I'll drop it, but I just think it's an odd inclusion. Nintendo never really liked integrating third party software into their games.

Plus considering how toxic a cesspool Twitter can be, realistically speaking, I doubt they'd allow anything like this at all.

There were some fierce opponents, but a plurality ended up being in favor of it due to; one the meme factor, and two the potential of twitter paying for more characters.

A retweet button spirit is now in the game as a part of this deal. Definitely an interesting course for the thread to take.

I’m so sorry for failing to add the price tag for the stage. I added it so feel free to adjust your budget proposals to reflect this.

why exactly does it cost more to include new Nintendo series than old ones? they still own the characters.
While I don’t 100% know the entire legal workings behind how first party characters, I do recall an interview by Sakurai that including characters, even first-Party, requires talking and working with the studios behind those franchises. Bringing in an entirely new franchise requires more work time to add categories for things like Spirits, Music, and so on. Theoretically, it costs more to bring in content from a new universes as opposed to an existing universe as there’s more backfire negotiations with the studios involved plus the need to allocate resources to accommodate said new universe.

Job #Twitter: The "Nintendo Net" expansion (I just wanted to give this a codename to stand out, I couldn't think of anything good)

1st party newcomer from a new series (1) = 990,000 (990,000)
1st party stage from a new series (1) = 600,000 (1,590,000)
1st party newcomer from an existing series (2) = 1,400,000 (2,990,000)
1st party item from an existing franchise (1) = 10,000 (3,000,000)

EXACTLY 3,000,000 million US Dollars

Explanation:
With this expansion we get 3 characters, a new stage, and a new item. This is what I thought of to get the most new characters while also having a new bang of a new series being thrown in there. Also added a stage for the new series because not bringing a stage with a new series is pretty weird. Finally, added a new item for the casual fans and because it was barely cheap enough to add.

We've closed the voting for the Retro Mii Costumes and Assists. Here are the full results.

Mii Costumes

Assist Trophy

1617793373775.png

The winner of the Mii Costume prompt is Sukapon! He'll function like the Creeper and Pig Mii costumes, as the limbs would be floating. It's a great way to honor him as he was a pretty popular pick during the Retro Character vote. And hey, maybe it's the closest thing we'll have to a playable Rayman lol. Say hello to our endearing floating-limb-having Mii Costume.

Sukapon2.png

Continuing with the Assist Trophy results, the clear winner of the prompt is obviously Muddy Mole. With a whopping 36 Votes he clearly deserves the spot. His function as an Assist Trophy is as follows:
Muddy appears on stage and digs into the ground. He'll appear in a random part of the stage and jump up from and back into the ground and create a pitfall. Every 3rd jump out of 9 he will throw a heavy steel ball which rolls until either it falls off the stage or Muddy spawns another ball, which makes the previous one disappear. Balls reflect off walls. Muddy can be defeated, and makes Mole Mania hit sound effects.
Say hello to our newest Assist, Muddy Mole!

Now with that out of the way, we can focus ourselves on this twitter deal. I'll announce the voting for the CSS later today as well. I hope you guys like the format I use for announcing tallies, if you have any remarks feel free to let me know.
