I can just get information really quickly lol. My IM program Trillian lets me get notifications for anything instantly. I'll know whenever there's a new post in a thread I'm sub'd in, whenever I get a message/alert from any website and when people make status updates on Fb(it shows me what the update is).

Pidgin was meh for me. It didn't give me notifications for everything like Trillian lol. I didn't like any of the notifier plugins it had either D:

This is how it works
Trillian http://www.trillian.im/ (get 4.2 or 5, doesn't matter to me really lol, since it's pretty much the same thing. I have 5 though)
lets you sign into MSN, YIM, AIM, ICQ, Facebook(and Facebook IM), MySpace, LinkedIn,Skype, Google Talk/Mail(as well as MSN/YIM/AIM Mail), Twitter and IRC all at the same time.(A trillian accounts getit?)
It will give you updates on as many or as little things you want.
Now the system I have working here in terms of notifications is Google Mail is the primary thing. Trillian tells you the email topic of any mail you get in your gmail(it doesn't tell you the topic for the others, just that you have an email) in a small notification popup(it appears and disappears on its own). This means if you get any sort of email from a website you'll know what the message is about instantly when you get it.
With Smashboards, I have SWF send me an instant email for any post I get in a thread subscription. It puts the thread title in the email(at the point I can come check the thread if I feel like it). The downside with SWF doing that though is that you'll get a bunch of emails each day lol. Google compounds emails with the same topic and same day into one though, so there's not as much clutter. You could always set up a dummy gmail only for swf messages if you want(you can sign into multiple accounts of the same type on trillian).
As I said earlier it will sign into Fb if you want and it will instantly tell you any Fb status up date if you want. That's how I learned about Mink's update so quickly lol.
Some of you might have me on Fb and it'll look like I"m online all day. I'm not actually not the website much lol. I'm signed into the Facebook IM chat through trillian so I look like I"m on all the time(or at least afk if I'm asleep).
There you go, the secret to my daily flow of info lol.

Well like I said you can set up a dummy Gmail for SWF lol. You don't have to log into that one on your phone. You also could just not do swf updates at all lol. Plus you can individually edit the rate of notification for any thread(when you hit the subscribe button it takes you to a page asking you how you want to be notified, if at all. You can make it so you get an email instantly, once an hour(if there's posts), or like at the end of the day lol.
Also Gindler it's more of the latter than the former. Even then it's not like you have to check everything the same moment you get them, I don't lol.
