Trashtalking?

Do you guys trashtalk a lot when you're playing video games?

I don't. I don't understand why some people feel the need to trashtalk after a win. Some people don't even win by a huge margin and still trash talk. To be quite honest, I usually say good game, or I don't say nothing at all when I win. There's absolutely no need to make fun of the opponent at all in my opinion.

Well, sometimes I will if the situation calls for it. Maybe not trash talk per se, but I'll do something that will insult the other person if he deserves it.

Like one time I was playing a friend of mine in some game that I don't even own, on a system that I don't even own, and he was trashtalking the entire time. So I said, "just be happy this isn't Smash." Then he says "Alright, let's play SSB, I'll destroy you."

Unfortunately for him he failed to destroy me. And once I won I promptly started pretending to pelvic thrust his head...

Yeah...

Hey, **** gets pretty crazy here in Boston.

Ew, trash-talking is such a turn-off. Haha.

Anyway, I don't see the point in it. I mean, I guess if it makes the person feel better, I see the reason for that, but just to do it for the sake of it. That's boring. I ignore people trash-talking to me. Even in friendly play, I don't totally overwhelming my opponents if I know I'm better than them. I just play them one or two notches above them so that they can improve.

After all, if you just talk smack about everyone you beat, you aren't going to get many happy challengers.

Yeah I know what you mean. One time I was watching this match between two scrubby Smashers. One of the guys was just trash talking the entire time, while the other guy was sheildgrabbing and projectile spamming the entire time. The trashtalker lost, which was pretty embarrassing.

No, I don't trash talk.

Nothing good comes out of it anyways. (For them, that is.)

Trashtalking in First Person Shooters > Trashtalking in Smash Bros.
Meh. Being a competitive Call of Duty player, I had to face a lot of people who trashtalked often. Until I destroyed them that is. Then they gave the good old "you're hacking" excuse. I miss those days.

Oh my god. That so reminds me of those days when internet cafes were popular, I'd go with my brother and his friends to Counter strike, and I don't know why, but there were always mexican kids just across the room, they trash talk when they killed us, and they screamed hacks like bloody murder when we kill them.

It was funny since they called out a lot more 'Hacks' than trash talk.

Don't even get me started about the whole "hacks" thing. I mean, I played Call of Duty competitively for quite some time. A few years at least. Maybe 4 years? When I wasn't playing in my team's server or playing in matches or scrims or whatever, I would play in some public servers once in a while. I would get accused of hacks almost all the time.

I mean, people thought I had aimbot, wallhacks, no recoil hack, damage modifiers, invincibility hack, maphack, speed hack, etc etc. It was pretty bad.

Sometimes even other competitive teams thought I was hacking...

You know what it feels like to kill a player who does hack? Totally epic. XD
I certainly do =P

Somehow I went 66-25 in a 1v1 deathmatch against a noobish aimbotter one time...

I don't even know why I bothered playing him...

I guess it provided some lulz.

I trashtalk like you wouldn't believe with my friends. It's all fun and games though. I did have hacks called on me when I was losing once. That was fun.
Meh, I've had hacks called on me before I even entered the match. Just walk into the server, and instant accusations...

It's ridiculous really. Some people find it difficult to believe there are people better than they are out there.

I dont trash talk. I think its flatout disrespectful amongst friends.(if your serious) but in a different environment like tournaments is reasonable.

theres nothing wrong with playful trash talking i do that sometimes. like tell my friend his 6 year old brother is better than him.

Talking trash is fun and stuff. It's a part of online gaming because you have the security of the computer to hide your identity. I don't trash talk players better than me. I trash talk to the NOOBS.

Being able to hide behind a computer screen is the unfortunate reason that people act the way they do online.

I never trash talk, I take a more humble approach to gaming.

Back on Brawl's release date this dude was talking about how he was the best Melee player on the island and how he could be everybody. My friend that was there laughed and said that he was full of it and that he couldn't beat me, I just kinda stood there and listened to him go on. So eventually he puts money on it. $10 that he could beat me and my friend on teams with FF off, if we lost we wouldn't have to pay him. We accept and let him pick the stage and the first stage he picks is Hyrule. I give my friend a 'WTF?' look and we proceeded to own him. I played 1vs1 against him and 3 stocked him in a 5 stock match then he says he prefers to play with items [gave another 'WTF?' look] so we turned them on and still beat him. He paid up and he was pretty much speechless after that.

That pretty much happens every time I play Melee against someone new minus the money part. It's so good to make people swallow their words.

Mate, I've gone through the most horrific and ******** variety of "trashtalk" ever! I mean you get one of those people where after they win a game, they just look at you for about 5 bloody mins. Then your like " wtf are you looking at?", it's like they expect you to be ashamed of your loss... but you really aren't. Also, one that nearly made me punch someone in the face is when you lose and they keep saying "you lost" (not in an aggressive voice though). Then you play again, and you hear "you lost!"....... :S you point?
Doesn't it drive you nuts??? ( I don't want to explain more because it makes me aggravated to continue).

I love to trashtalk when playing xbox live. Whenever I own the opposing team I like to rub it in their faces because it makes winning feel even better! This is why I have alot of "trash talking" negative rep on xbox live! :p

It's weird, but I normally only trashtalk among people I know, but not among complete strangers. So if I'm playing online--a rare occurrence, to be sure, but it does happen--I'll generally try to be totally courteous to everyone, win or lose. I suppose ultimately I'm just trying to practice what I preach when it comes to not being a total jerk on the internet.

Actually, I take it back, I do trashtalk seriously online sometimes. But only if they really deserve it. For example, we had this guy named Midas on a CSS server I play on, and he was camping like crazy. That's fine if your on the terrorist side, but the server rules say you have to make an active effort to rescue the hostages. He would just camp front office the whole **** game. He wasn't even good at it. He eventually landed himself a perma-ban for insulting the mods a bunch, but many lawls were had at his expense.

I've never understood why you would choose to talk trash about your opponent. When you can choose to explain the depths of your own awesomeness instead.

I'd rather be cool then have uncool opponents.

Thing is, some people such as myself will act nicer to people online. I'll only screw with people I know and that I know won't freak out.
Hmmm, that's also a good point. I would say I'm a pretty nice person in general, and I wouldn't trash talk online unless someone was really acting like a scrub, then I might do a little just to put him back in his place.

I almost never trash talk among friends either. But I do know that they'll be more able to realize that I'm saying things in jest rather than in a hurtful way, so I guess I'm more open to it in person.

Why trash talk, when you can be explaining their mistakes instead, this is just me though, I would rather make more allies than more enemies.

I don't trash talk at all. When my friend and I play, we just sit there and play. We even have conversations while playing, and don't end up realizing what's going on on screen. We then see that someone won, and I'd ask him "How'd I die?" We really wouldn't remember how I died. Smash is like breathing, sometimes you don't even realize you're doing it. We are basically completely equal in skill level, and every one of our matches is 50-50

Ahem..

Any ways back on the topic of trash talking, i ussually don't trash talk. I let my actions do the talking XD. Only time i do its when some one pisses me off from hacking or just being plain stupid and saying they're good. Can't wait to get my Double Barrel in World at War. Shoot the hell out of them to kingdom come.

I normally don't trashtalk, as oppossed to my friends who love to do it. I just kinda sit there, listening to the profanity and stupid insults be exchanged in the lobby. After the game, I really do the same, unless someone calls me out or just pissed me off during the game. Whenever that happens, I just start chanting "SCOOORE BOOAARD", especially after an epic win. It works everytime, and I haven't had anyone come up with a coherent insult since I started using this.

No, I don't it's easier to just beat them harder and harder until they break their own system or controller.
