Forget being a Toad supporter? Well, I'm seeing Catching Fire tonight, so I may be distracted for one day, but tomorrow I get to play 3D World for the first time so it'll be a short rest from the Toad Brigade.

"Prepare your anuses for adventure"

The above's a quick test; will edit into a proper post should this actually get through.

EDIT: Hooray! It got through! Now, tonight I finally get to play 3D World for the first time and as a result I hope to make a moveset for Blue Toad mostly based around 3D World mechanics.

For now though, I'm going to repost my moveset for Captain Toad here from the other thread(since it's still Toad related and Captain Toad is often thought of as the Toad from Mario Kart, SMB2, Wario's Woods, etc) I've put it in collapse because we don't need yet another insanely long post from me in this thread:

TIME FOR ADVENTURE!
Captain Toad explores the battlefield!
This is Captain Toad:
But what is a Captain Toad you may ask?
Captain Toad is by far the bravest Toad in all of the Galaxies; he has explored regions the average mushroom retainer could only dream of, has become Captain of the Royal Guards of the Toadstool family and is largely thought of(but unproven) as being the same Toad that bravely fought against Wart and Wario in the past.
Captain Toad has recently been given a starring role alongside Mario, Luigi, Peach, Blue Toad and Rosalina in Super Mario 3D World, in which he has his own single player adventures. His levels unlike the others are not platformers, and Captain Toad must instead navigate a 3D environment without the aid of such lofty things as power ups. Because he is a Toad that is overly prepared for everything, he has a nasty habit of bringing too much gear with him on his adventures which stop him from being able to jump(Toads in general are poor jumpers to begin with). Instead he must use his cunning, timing and wits to solve multiple puzzles and gather as many Green Power Stars as he can for his allies.
Moveset ideas:
Neutral B: Toad Spore
Captain Toad is not the most offensive individual, being a strong an honourable man he prefers to let his enemies throw the first punch. And then return their damage back at them two fold. Yes; the brave Captain Toad soon teaches those villains that such aggression can and will be turned back upon them.
Up + B: Power Star Grappling Hook
Captain Toad is nothing if not resourceful. Using one of the many Green Power Stars he's managed to find over his journeys, and his trusty rope this modern day Macguver can create a handy grappling hook to let him recover from big falls, or swing up to higher platforms. Being slapped in the face with a Power Star also hurts somewhat as anyone who has ever made the unfortunate mistake to cross the Captain will tell you. If their jaws were realigned that is.
Side + B: Headlamp
Utilizing his trusty headlamp, the courageous Captain Toad dares to bring light to any villain's lair. Hitting them in the eyes with his powerful light he can stop even the most determined antagonist in their tracks for a split second, giving them time to think twice about testing his mettle.
Down + B: Rucksack empty
Sometimes you need to pack for adventure. Other times, you need to lighten the load. Captain Toad is a mushroom man of experience and he knows that if you're being weighed down the best thing to do is ditch the dead weight. He turns his rucksack upside down and drops several items from it.
After doing this several times, Captain Toad's jump and double jump becoming significantly improved at the questionable cost of him being lighter and easier to KO. Is the recovery worth losing such weight? More importantly is it worth more than losing such beautiful treasures?
Final Smash: Toad Brigade!
What else could the brave Captain Toad's Final Smash really be?
With his courageous leadership skills, Captain Toad calls forth the Toad Brigade. Waving the Toad banner he announces the charge. During this final Smash Toad is given the banner as a weapon to attack the opponents and move freely as his teammates perform their own attacks:
Buckenberry/Blue Toad: Throws books at the opponents, deals decent damage.
Alagold/Yellow Toad: Yellow Toad yawns and makes any enemy near him sleepy.
BankToad/Green Toad: Strikes with his pickaxe. Acts similarly to the hammer.
MailToad/Purple Toad: Throws packages at the opponents. Effects vary. Similar to Delibird, some parcels heal, some explode.
After 15 seconds the Toads salute and leave their brave leader to continue on the fight alone!
Grab: Pack for Adventure!
Once again Captain Toad is a very well prepared individual, and likes to pack anything and everything he thinks will be helpful on his many adventures through the galaxies. Sometimes he can get a little carried away and pick up anyone and everything in his preparations.
Captain Toad can pick up various items as well as opponents, thus reversing the buffs and nerfs he received from using his down + B.
Grab + Run: Toad Trekking
Once Captain Toad is all packed for adventure, it's time to set off! With his super strength and speed, Captain Toad can run and walk around the stage carrying even the heaviest adversary, and forcing them along on his expedition like a young university understudy.
TAUNTS:
Side Taunt: Captain Toad whips out his map, checking his location. Even the most seasoned explorer occasionally gets lost, so don't feel discouraged brave Captain Toad!
Up Taunt: Captain Toad spins around as he gathers another Power Star whilst yelling, most truthfully "I'M THE BEST!"
Down Taunt: Forging new ground, Captain Toad claims the stage in the name of the Mushroom Kingdom and his Brigade! "YAH HA!"
Anything I missed that you'd like to see? Any specifics you would like to see for Blue Toad? Let me know.

I wish Nintendo would make Toad's own game... maybe it could be titled "Super Toad Brigade"... kinda like a play on the title "Super Princess Peach"... where we play as all five Toads... of course, they would have the same abilities... picking/throwing vegetables/enemies, speed, superhuman strength, running on walls, stacking up blocks/mushrooms... and the goal would be to carry the Power Star to the end of a level and hand it to Mario (explaining how/where/why Toads give Power Stars to Mario in Galaxy games)... I got carried away... I just love that fan art of the Toad Brigade. :)

As long as Captain Toad naturally gets a few levels within the Boo house/galaxy I'm totally on board, if only to take advantage of his headlamp.

Editted that post with my Captain Toad specific moveset.

Blue Toad was braver than normal Toad.

Just saying. I still like Toad better but... Blue Toad was the only Toad that came close to keeping his **** together during SuperMarioGalaxy2Mario Wars : The return of Bowser.

Oh yeah and Super Mario 3D World

Why did Sakurai have to make Toad's confirmation/deconfirmation so ambiguous on the November 21, 2013 Miiverse pic of the day ("these four...people(?)") when he made Skull Kid's deconfirmation crystal clear today? ("I repeat, it's an Assist Trophy, not a new fighter")

Try not to think about it. Think safe. Just don't.

Sorry for the Skull kid supporters

While it sucks for the Skull Kid supporters and I do sympathize with them, I am looking forward to Skull Kid making the moon crash through the stage... that's epic. Majora's Mask is one of my absolute favorite Zelda games along with Ocarina of Time and A Link to the Past.

Do you think Toad as a special move is more or less more respectable than being an Assist Trophy?

Less.

Toad is just a body shield. Skull Kid makes the moon crash the stage.

If you ask me, assist trophy but it doesn't come down to how respectable it is. It's the reaction it gets. Ridley being a boss was MUCH better than being an assist trophy but it was still received negatively. I wouldn't assume that it would be less negative if he was an assist trophy. What matters was that : He wasn't playable.

Anyway, AT > Meat shield. Boom.

I do think it is more fitting for him to be a special move (even though that was not the question I posed).

Peach is the ruler of the Mushroom Kingdom. Toad as part of her identity makes sense. And I love how she forces Toad to protect her (they always run away from Bowser, allowing their leader to be captured every time).

Hmmm.

Obviously playable is a lot better, but assist would be better than a single move. If Peach utilized Toad in more than just the one special, I'd probably be more accepting of it.

But nope, her final Smash rather than a mushroom kingdom army was to do a dance and drop peaches on the stage.
Because her name is Peach. :troll: Gettit?
And Toad is a shield because he's her guard. :troll: Gettit?
And she attacks with her backside because another name for the butt is "peaches". Her name is Peach. :troll: Gettit?
I swear Peach's moveset was made around puns.

Toad as an Assist Trophy. Hmmm...I guess he'd give you a random Mario related item? Probably the most fitting thing for him. I mean it's not "Dropping the goddamn MOON on the enemies" but it's pretty fitting.

Playing Toad in Super Mario 3D World has been a really refreshing and enjoyable experience. In contrast with Captain Toad's appearance in the game, Blue Toad is much more brave and talented. Yet even when Captain Toad has that stereotypical cowardice and powerlessness (which is really only a stereotype, folks), one of the great things I admire Toad in general for is being helpful regardless of the circumstances. When Bowser invades a kingdom, he gives away free power ups. When Bowser takes over the castle, he finds power stars to help you progress. Similarly, Captain Toad finds quite a few Green Stars necessary for your progression. And yet the damsel in distress gets a character slot before he does. What a joke.

Super Mario 3D World also got me thinking about Toad's typical size in his playable roles. We often think of Toad as short given his shorter limbs, but including his mushroom cap, Toad in New Super Mario Bros. Wii/U and SM3DW is roughly the same size as Mario. If you have that image in your mind and take a look at the pictures that show Peach using her B move, Toad's character model is much smaller than any playable Toad character model.

Interestingly enough, concept art for the New Super Mario Bros games and SM3DW tend to lie about Toad's in-game height perhaps due to perspective or just negligence. Size authenticity is a contested issue when roster discussions are involved, but generally we want the size of the characters to match the size that we see in their games, and that's what Sakurai has delivered so far (Don't worry Ridley fans, the original Metroid game is his lifeline for this one). Perhaps the size disparity will also save Toad this time. The Toad we know is not the INFANT sized one Peach carries around. Therefor, he is not necessarily out of the question. What do you think?

I think Peach using an infant civilian to take a blow for her makes her even crueler and makes me want to root for Koopa Troop's coup.

On a more serious note, that's an interesting theory, and one I never considered. I had made the note that Toad tended to be around Mario's height in those games(with his cap), but never really thought much more of it. I shan't hold my breath for that to be the saving grace, but Toad being smaller than he actually is in Smash is something I never thought about.

If we do get the red-capped, blue-vested Toad, then the sizes will probably be different. Or we're still in the development stage and Peach's special simply hasn't been changed yet. Or we're getting the blue Toad. There are still plenty of plausible scenarios that involve Toad being in. He's never stopped having a chance. I just think that you guys are so pessimistic about his chances that you just kinda let yourselves be convinced that he's deconfirmed.

I'm sorry to be so blunt, but that's what I think happened. Since everyone else yelled "deconfirmed!" and said "in before Toad supporters say he still has a chance", we just kinda gave up so we wouldn't appear foolish.

Remember guys, they thought Wolf and R.O.B. were definite deconfirmations too back in pre-Brawl days. The popular conclusion is not always the correct one. In fact, with Sakurai, it's most likely not to be correct.

I still remember those days when everyone was convinced Toon Link was disconfirmed from Smash Bros Wii U and 3DS, almost feels like it was just a few months ago.... =w=

Exactly.

I'm not letting myself be fooled twice because of the popular opinion on these boards.
Well yeah there are multiple Toads in the Mario series after all and it never stopped Nintendo to make him both a playable character as well as a spectator etc in the Mario games (even in Melee he was both a move as well as a background character) and unlike Skull Kid, Sakurai never outright stated that he wouldn't be playable.

But then again, I'm not sure if I should still be betting on him for this game though because the way Sakurai presented Toad during the daily image promoting Mario 3D World seems to imply that he's merely going to be Peach's meatshield again. But hey, I kept my hopes for Toon Link's return despite everyone else saying that he was a goner so I don't think I can really talk. ^^

Just hope for the best and be prepared for the worst I'd say.

There's a simple answer to that that everyone's overlooking: Sakurai didn't want to show off a newcomer in a daily picture yet, so he used what he could to make an update that did not reveal a character.

Every time I see Peach pulling out Toad in these pictures, it is like an arrow to my heart. :(

Enough already! We get it, Sakurai! You hate Toad and don't want to include him as a playable character! You don't need to rub salt...

Actually to be honest I found the quote today sort of funny, even as a Toad fan.

"N-now wait a second, let's talk this through! We don't wanna miss today's Nintendo Direct, right?"

Although admittedly that bit of clipping through Toad's crotch is pretty noticeable. Looks like the model got a polish too. It looked pretty damn rough on the initial Toad picture and even the 3D World group shot one.

The pic of the day actually brought me to log in. It made me feel hope again, the faith that Toad might still be playable is still present. I know it is not a good idea to believe in such things... but I think he could possibly have a chance!

(setting myself up for disappointment, again)

I don't have a Miiverse account (yet) so I couldn't read Sakurai's comment. Well, I guess it is kinda humorous in that context... :dizzy:

To be honest, this picture really does not do anything with Toad's chances

Well, maybe because it's non-existent

This is probably just for the sake of humor. Nothing more. Nothing less

I can't help but feel bit offended on today's pic. I guess it's just the sight of Toad about to get arrow in his knee head.

Oh wait- he's a meatshield... I guess it's appropriate to mess more around with that fact...

It's funny because the picture could mean nothing, or everything.

Also, what's with Toad and this upcoming Direct? I overheard something about him specifically and this direct.
