I recently picked up Flaco in hopes in improving my Technical ability by learning the basics so that I could pick up my original main in Melee, Fox. Because through the history of Melee/Brawl/Brawl+, I've never used Technical characters as my mains. Marth, Doc, Mario are pretty much the only 3 that I've used as mains throughout the life spawn of those 3 games.

However, I've taken a liking to Flaco and now I wish to be able to use them both at a level that rivals my thirds/seconds.

But from what I've heard, the two character's go down 2 different routes of technical skill due to their playstyles.

But I'm seriously wanting to use them both.

So what tips do you guys have for someone like me who wants to play both Fox and Falco. Very few notable players use both characters and with good reason.

So halp?

EDIT: I'm more or less looking for general/overall advice.

Learn how to shffl aerials into shine with fox and how to waveshine. Falco's tech skill is the same you just have to slow down a tiny bit...EZ

There's too much to explain with these 2 characters, especially Fox. You should ask this in the character specific boards. =)

I thought about it, but I wasn't exactly sure because i was more so looking for general advice on how to switch back and forth without really hurting how I play with the other.

they have different styles of play, very different, watch pro foxes then watch pro falco's, and even more so you'll just have to play them and feel the difference.

I understand how Fox and Falco play.

But I want to know how to keep both characters consistent while playing and developing both. They're the kind of character you develop muscle memory for and I heard that hurts how you play the other.

I play both of them at a tournament level and I can tell you that you'll need to keep both of their movements in your memorybanks. Just play a lot of friendlies with Fox and just switch off to Falco after a couple, then back to Fox, then back to Falco until you get the hang of changing up the timing on their moves.

everlasting yayuhz is correct. Play both of them and learn both of fox and falco's timing and styles.

Ahh beast mode. Thanks. This will help me a lot once I actually get good at Fox. :V

I appreciate it.

this. i'm attempting to master them both equally also, and this is pretty much how i go about it. tourny play is essential. much different than practicing them both at home against CPU's. and since their both technical in their own way/speeds, it will take some time to adjust no doubt

My tip is to don't switch. Pick one or the other otherwise it will mess up one from being as good as it can be. I tried for years to do this, its impossible now I just stick with fox.

lol i agree with eggm.
i play both. and if im every in a matchup in a tourney that fox is better at, ill go fox, then when i try to switch back to falco i constantly mess up my waveshines due to going too fast... which is a shame because my falco is better.

its confusing to switch back and forth IMO, but with practice its not that bad.

I'm really hoping I can avoid that. ;_;

Why does Fox have to be so much more technical than all the characters I like playing.. augh

But shiz is an enomoly. For the average player its best to stick with just 1 for best results imo.

eh, this is true for some people. it honestly just depends on the person 100%. some could adapt back and forth over time, others like yourself feel much more comfortable not having to re-adjust.. it's just making it habit, just like everything else in the game :bee:

Our minds cannot multitask. We work at our best when focusing on ONE thing. :D I only focus on Doc haha.

good ****

shiz is also the most naturally gifted technical player i have ever seen
honestly his fox is ****ing ridiculously fast
plus he has large amounts of insane beast energy and he can do what he wants

sticking to falco is a good choice though :)

Yes exactly. Its a gift. Not something you can learn. I think for 95% of people its best just to play one to get your tech skill as close to perfect as possible if that's your goal.

If anything I would recommend playing Falco then possibly switching to Fox later. I think it's easier to go from Falco to Fox in the future than the other way around.

Simply being because you will make less mistakes being slightly too slow than being slightly too fast going from Fox to Falco.

So I approve of the Falco choice.

I mained Fox when I started playing, and tried switching to Falco a few times. After being infuriated by an inability to waveshine or even WD consistently, I gave up and decided to be a just Fox guy.

Then, a few weeks later, I read this thread. I think "Oh, just slow it down a little bit, can't be that hard." I try Falco one more time, and absolutely ****. I've also noticed that since the switch from Fox to Falco, when I go back to Fox, my tech skill seems easier, more fluid, and my shield pressure absolutely *****.

Then again, this is 100% just me, and it probably varies from person to person.
