Tomorrow is Miyamoto's birthday, so there is a chance that if we do get a character update tomorrow he or she will be from the Mario or Zelda series. There is also a chance we might get Captain Olimar since Miyamoto was involved in the creation of that series as well. However, this would not jive with the theme of this week, which is stuff we already knew since E4ALL.

Look's like another week with no character. However, I noticed that there was a sticker of Sothe (FE10 version) and Silver (from that crap Sonic 360/PS3 game) in the update.

However, I now think there may be a silver lining in this huge character drought. This Sunday, Capcom is holding a 20th year anniversary event for Mega Man, if Mega Man is in Brawl, this would be the best time to show him.

I just posted my topic on starmen.net (the biggest EarthBound/Mother fansite around). Hopefully, they will enjoy this topic as much as other people have.

I see that matthewmilad is being obnoxious. Have you even played the original Smash Bros., Pikachu is clearly balancing its whole body on a Pokeball in the intro to the game.

I see that nobody on SmashBoards has appreciated all of my hardwork. I will probably just come back to this thread just to add pictures, but I was under the impression that this was a much friendlier and intelligent forum than GameFAQs and most other forums. =(
Eh, there's no such thing as a friendly forum. As for your list, I recall seeing it on GameFAQs. Of course I have a few disagreements with it, but I appreciate that you put time into researching this. I've been contemplating adding a list of my own.

Hopefully tonight will be a character update. It has been a while since I last updated this topic, so I am hoping for some new information.

Here is a theory I posted in another topic. However, its just a theory and could easily be proven wrong. However, it would explain the character drought we have been having. Well, here it is:

Super Smash Bros. Brawl releases on January 24, 2008 in Japan. According to that one brochure that was given out to retail by Nintendo there are more than 25 characters in the game. What remains to be determined is: A.) Whether some of the characters on the site (other than Snake and Sonic) are hidden characters. and B.) Whether "more than 25" is referring to starting characters or total characters.

If it is the latter, then that would mean there are only nine more characters yet to be revealed in the game. Why? Well, currently there are seven characters with original movesets (excluding Ness) that have yet to be shown in Brawl. They are Jigglypuff, Captain Falcon, Luigi, Sheik, Marth, Mewtwo, and Mr. Game & Watch. Also, Ganondorf is very likely to return because of how important and popular he is to the Zelda series. This would also leave one more newcomer, because there is a series between Sonic and Kid Icarus that has yet to be revealed. Altogether, this would make 32 characters, however, because Zero-Suit-Samus and Sheik are/likely to be transformations, there will only be 30 characters on the selection screen. This ties in nicely to past history. Prior to Melee's release, there was preview site for North America, that stated that there were more than 20 characters in the game. This did not make sense to people at the time because there were only room for 19 characters on the screen (people did not know about Zelda or the clone boxes at this point), leading some to count the second Ice Climber separately, even then only getting to 20 characters. The final count for this "20+" was 25 (26 counting Sheik separately). Also, keep in mind that Sakurai hinted on his blog that he wanted to show all the characters in the game before anyone else. If my theory is correct, if he shows at least one character a week, he will have shown all the characters in the game a week before Brawl's Japanese release.

However, if the "more than 25 characters" is referring to starting characters, we are probably looking at 36 characters being the absolute minimum in terms of the total amount of characters in the game, perhaps even reaching to 40+ characters.

However, even Sakurai himself mentioned in his blog, that he struggled to get to 26 characters in Melee, and that he could not promise a lot of characters this time around, although he would try his best to get in as many characters as possible.

Finally, no characters have been put into the game as a result of the delay? Why? The Metal Gear voice actors, said back in October that they were done recording all their voicework for Brawl, and it would be kind of pointless to bring that back to the Brawl development to make one or two more codec conversations for one or two more characters made as a result of the delay.

I know I might be flamed for this, however, this is just a perpspective. It has yet to be determined the nature of this "more than 25" or even the character selection screen.

Apparently, there is a rumor going around on some Japanese messsage boards, stating Klonoa is going to be Namco's representative for Brawl, which is weird considering most of the character's games are on Sony platforms. =/
I believe you've forgotten that Empire of Dreams, Dream Champ Tournament and Klonoa Heroes were on the Game Boy Advance.

Frankly, I wouldn't mind if Klonoa got in.

The key word is "most", Klonoa definitely had a few games on a Nintendo console (Game Boy Advance).

Well, THAT and Nintendo and Namco are on good relations.

I'm kinda hoping for that to be true, though. What kind of message board was it?

Do you know about the Krystal rumor? Basically, replace Krystal with Klonoa, and you have the Klonoa rumor (the voice actress for Klonoa hinted that she was going to be in a major upcoming Nintendo game, but took it off her site when asked about it). Also, it was on some rumor section on a Japanese Smash Bros. wiki (not wikipedia). The rumor section also had the Krystal rumor.

Do you have the link by any chance? I'm really hoping Klonoa will be in Brawl. I'm aware that fans of Krystal and Klonoa want them in.

But who's to say if that's true? But Japan DOES know about these things before we do, so maybe....

Ew. Personally, I would have Klonoa over Krystal, but having them both would be a nightmare (I can already hear the pencils of furry artists drawing Sonic X Krystal "art").

Anyway, I have also been trying to refind the link to this site. Unfortunately, the link to it was in some topic on 2ch, and navigating that site is a nightmare.

Same here, my friend, same here.
The more I think about it, the more Klonoa really fits in Brawl. Here are the reasons based on his abilities and game play:

Pretty fast
Wide ranged abilities (thanks to Klonoa Heroes, his ring can become many different weapons, such as a saber, mace, parasol, etc.)
Double Jump capabilities
A taunt (In Lunatea's Viel, there is actually a taunt button. This "taunt" also activates automatically after a boss is defeated.)
Also, thanks to Namco x Capcom, it seems that he has a great finishing blow, the Thunder Hurricane, which could be used as a Final Smash.

Besides the whole Namco/Nintendo relationship, Klonoa seems to be a fit representatvie for Namco.

Jigglypuff's popularity has not waned... She is still the second most popular pokemon, in a recent poll for a dvd with anime episodes starring one pokemon Jigglypuff was right behind Pikachu... Oh and also she has been confirmed to be returning by snake's voice actor, he said he wanted to beat up pikachu and jigglypuff the most. Seeing as how he does the transmission for each character's and that it's pretty hard to confuse her with another character (i'm sure that kirby's transmissions would have to do with his inhaling abilities that jigglypuff does not have) she's pretty much confirmed.

Lucario isn't as popular as everyone on these boards make him out to be. Darkrai is much more popular than him in japan at this point and Manaphy probably is too. Just cause he starred in a movie doesn't really make him a shoe in (in my opinion that movie was one of the worst, it had little to no action at all in it). If anything I could see him as a pokeball pokemon seeing as how Munchlax and Deoxys (who are much much much more popular than him) were turned into pokeballs.

Darkrai should at least be included in your 'characters that aren't gonna get in' paragraphs seeing how he's recently starred in a movie and was the main protagonist of it (well aside from satoshi). He's very very popular among the pokemon community and even more popular in japan due to his movie. He's also a villain in the pokemon games, he locks a child in a nightmare and you have to get a feather from Cresselia to awaken him. Also in the near event releases of him he has his own story in the game where you take a boat ride to his island and battle him. If you defeat or capture him then you wake up and find out that it was all a nightmare yet you still have him captured (Well if you captured him not defeated him).
I concur.

And not to sound mean or anything but this just sounds like one of those p**sy threads where the most wanted characters on this forum are dubbed "most likely" in order to re-asure others that their pickes will be in.

mainly why I don't like such threads but W/E, carry on.

Where did I say Jigglypuff was unlikely in my analysis, I even said I would be surprised if Jigglypuff did not return.

The chance of Klonoa showing up sparks some interest, even if I've never touched a game in that series.

Have to admit the horrors of the furry porn possibly showing up though... D:

I see a lot of the same characters' names in this thread.. Sakurai said that we would be able to see many characters that we've seen from the NES Era... Many characters will suprisingly be playable even though not mentioned!!

Where did he say this? The only Retro characters that have a shot are Sukapon, Takamaru, and to a lesser extent Balloon Fighter.

Say,you think Klonoa would be probable?

I thought you did. Oh well. Anyway, I am going to be try and make an overhaul of the analyses in this topic next weekend, however, due to their being so little new information released regarding the characters mentioned in this topic, much won't change.

I am guessing an Assist Trophy for tonight, however, I am hoping that it will cause a shakeup in one of my analyses. If we do get a character this week, he or she will probably not come til the end of this week.

Another update with something known since E4ALL and a mode that has been in the previous two games. So far it looks to be another lackluster week.

The proof that Geno wont get in.

We know there wont be 100 characters, we know the roaster will be limited to some degree. Well there are over 50 characters that have had bigger rolls in better selling games than Geno. Im guessing about a 40 character roaster, so theres no way in hell genos getting in over a character thats more deserveing.

Also Geno is what you would call a " 3rd party character " Acording to the definition of "3rd party "
There is no such thing as 2nd and a half party. Somebody on this site made up 2nd and a half party to give hope to geno fans. There has never been and there never will be a 2nd and a half party character. SOMEONE ON THIS SITE MADE IT UP.

My explination of why they put geno on the polls. It was simply to determine weather he was popular enough to be an assist trophy.

Unimportant to this thread. I am talking about information that could be used to change my analyses in a big way. The only thing significant that went up that made me change my analysis was Lucas's special moves. Now do you see.

I just got a response from Samurai Panda regarding the rumor, here is what he had to say:

"People who preordered Brawl from Amazon recently recieved an email that basically says "In order to realize the hopes of the character fans out there, more time is necessary -President Iwata." And Nintendo is indeed denying that there is any delay, although the author of the article has his doubts as to whether or not this "leaked" email is true or not."

Well so even if the game does get delayed again, it is mostly due to put more characters in the game.

Hey, no. Chronobound it's not like that at all. It's me who absolutely fit that description.

Recent updates stinks. They are but trash. Buaa. Buaa. I hate Sakurai.

If Sakurai's Team got together with Genyo Takeda to discuss on Little Mac... they SHOULD've talked about StarTropics at SOME point..

The most likely reason Little Mac was not made a full fledged character, was because of a lack of good moveset. (Look at his AT... left jab, right jab and uppercut. That's really all he did in his game) Little Mac is VERY popular. But his lack of moveset killed him...

Mike however has a brilliant moveset, but nearly dead popularity. The only way I can see him in there is to balance out the ammount of Japan only characters... Oh, and ST was PRODUCED in Japan, so there are people who know about the game inside Nintendo.

I can only pray he reaches Assist Trophy. :( Though it would actually be harder to do, since they'd have a LOT of moves to choose from.
