People not understanding they keep Snake for the end so he can say "Kept you waiting huh ?"...
Sure he is in.
Of course.
No way, even at the prospect of it going towards his characters personality it would give me a heart attack if they kept us in suspense for all that time. Although if hes not in it would be like that too

----

On the former subject of costumes

Id of course like the peace walker sneaking suit, its the best of both worlds.

Sleek design, shiny surfaces seem to look great in the wiiu version so the texture and gold bands would look superb. It has a very nice overall look and could give him a different feel with a bit more to break up his overall color.

---
The ones you guys listed are most of the good ones so there isnt too much left.

Although they could go out of left field and give him an acid alt

That's great, I didn't even consider the Peace Walker sneaking suit. Although I've always wondered about the gold bands on the sides like... I thought the point was not to have a blatant color on him.
Oh, and love the concept art for MGS Snake. Looks great, I love it. Is it just me or is his bandanna blue? In game it's gray and BB has an olive colored one he got from the Boss, which is the one Snake has in Brawl.

It would be nice if we got Tuxedo Snake as an alt.

Snake has a lot of alt. costume potential. With this alt. Players can finally have a Snake & Peach Wedding lol.

I will now ship it! Just kidding I have other ships for Snake...
But yeah, I approve of tuxedo Snake. Kicking butt and looking stylish is a must for a super spy.

Gotta have Tuxedo Snake! Especially if alt costumes are indeed in!
Would love the MGS3 or PW stealth suit as a default.

Saw on IGN that Smash will be at ComicCon.
If Kojima is there as well... Could very well be upto something.. :snake:

I personally prefer Hayter over Keifer, but I feel the way things were handled left Hayter very Sour. Would LOVE to see a remake of MG and MG2 next with both voices, because as we know Richard Doyle (Fury) voiced Big Boss in MGS4. Keifer would be a good transition over to that. Would be almost perfect way to carry over the voice acting and make it a non issue. Sure Hayter would come back if that was the case!

This is also why I think Big Boss will be the "Snake" in this game. Keifer was supposed to be in MK, but we haven't heard anything on that front..not sure why we wouldn't. Early speculation for that game labelled Keifer as Johnny Cage...but the game is set a few years down the line than MK9 with Sonya and Cages daughter being a confirmed fighter. Also MK has never had any "big names" attached to it, so figure they would announce that ASAP. Could be grasping, but it is slightly possible.

After all, the SSBB Snake seemed to be a combo of Big Boss and Solid.
Latest Nintendo game was MGS3DS and MGSV he is the playable "Snake" compared to when Brawl was released and the most recent MG game was Twin Snakes with MGS4 on the horizon with Solid.

Here's to hoping for the best at SDCC,

I'd think that, if Snake was going to be announced, it would either be in a Nintendo Direct or a video like what we got this past week. Then again, I thought Pac-Man would be announced during the stream at E3 and he wasn't revealed until a press-only event that wasn't streamed anywhere late at night, so who knows?

I think there's a fifty/fifty of Snake and Big Boss, Snake for old times sake and Big Boss because he's a better rep for the series now.

I think there's going to be something during comic-con and we can only hope that that something is indeed Snake because I think at the very least we'll get a veteran reveal. Let's hope it's a Snake Veteran reveal.

I think for me, the thing that would get me the most hyped at Comic-con would be a codec call with Snake talking about Mewtwo.

I think Snake will return. Come on! Sakurai added the Rayman serie, why would he left MGS behind? My reasoning is: if there is space for other 3d parties, then the "old" 3d parties are in.

I'm still with the group that thinks Snake didn't fit in a smash game, but I want him to return just for more Codecs...eventhough they made him seem more out of place...i liked them lol.

"He doesn't fit" is actually a typical runaway for non-Snake supporters. Level with me here, Link looks oddly realistic, same can be said with Zero Suit Samus, Marth, Ike, and more. For me, there is no "art-style" in Smash because there's such a large gap between these realistic characters and the cartoonish ones.

Rate their Chances is getting a Snake rerate soon.
So...any last minute, positive/negative points to bring up?
Yeah, 3% chance because he doesn't fit and Kojima said he wasn't in the game. =p
Sadly, those will be the main reasons people will bring up. O_o

Could be just me but Kojima going to SDCC just to support Play Arts Kai seems a little odd to me..Smash Facebook said we'd be getting some surprises. To me, it would be fitting for Kojima to announce Snake..especially at Comic Con because that will bring up lots of hype for MG and Smash.

It's not so much "he looks realistic", I have no problem with that aspect. I guess it's all the real weapons he brings, yes other weapons are in the game but beam swords and bombs (obviously wacky design that the Links bring work...) are a bit different...and his pummel being snapping peoples necks/choking them?

Always seemed a bit off.

That's what made him unique. It's better than having fighters that fight way too similar to each other(clones..). Snake brought more diversity to the roster, all we had were colorful happy characters, medieval characters, and some futuristic characters. We never really had this militaristic character. There many war games on nintendo consoles(most not made by nintendo of course), how would you represent that? War and violent video games have become a big part of the industry, smash could use some representation in that area.

Being different is good. Sakurai usually looks for unique characters. It's a crossover game, anything is possible.

Swords, arrows, and bombs are all real and dangerous weapons that too. The reason why they work in Smash is because they don't follow real world logic and instead follow the Smash bros cartoon logic.

The same cartoon logic applies for Snakes weapons too. Despite how realistic Snakes explosives look, how they function in Smash is as cartoony as a bob-omb explosion.

His juxtaposition from the rest made him that much better, especially since he needed intel to really get a grasp upon what he was dealing with. All his weapons were fine as well, if they had to tone them down even more in anyway it wouldnt be that hard to just dull them up or make them look plain if need be. And even with the serious nature of his series, he could still be part of this wacky mess we all love, and now that i think about it, metroid as a series is far more serious then metal gear.

I surely hope we get a comicon reveal, like once the tournaments over they say "we have a special guest who would like to show you guys something" *codec call starts* *crowd goes ape crap*

Choke holds and the like are present even in wrestling, its another form of combat yes. Its no worse then the other characters punching peach in the face during their grabs or most of the violence in the game.

So ganondorf is exempt from his antics though?

He's using dark magic, pretty sure that's not present in the real world, not the same thing at all.

If realistic, violent, action is out of place in Smash Bros., than Smash Bros. is out of place in it's own game. Without it's cartoony buffer and art style, the Smash games would be extremely violent. Could you imagine what it would be like if Smash Bros used a realistic art style with realistic graphics? The game would most likely garner a M or AO rating. I can understand your concern with Snake because he bears the most semblence to a real-life soldier (Which is far from the truth if you look at the content of his games), but other characters like Marth would most likely be under the same scrutiny Snake is if Marth's method of combat was still modern. Evevn without Snake, the Smash Bros. franchise is extemely brutal and violent if you step back and look at it.
He's using dark magic, pretty sure that's not present in the real world, not the same thing at all.
Again, if Black Magic was realistic, Ganondorf would be under the same scrutiny.

But it isnt...while Snake is.
What I'm trying to say is the entire SSB series is extremely violent, regardless of Snake. The point of my post was to point out the violence of the series using 'what if' scenarios. Also I noticed how you ignored the rest of my post.

There's cartoon violence, such as dark magic and Kirby eating people and Donkey Kong hurting people by playing drums, then there's Solid Snake snapping people's necks, I don't see how you can't make sense of that argument...

So your complaint about Snake is that violence is realistic, while the rest is cartoon violence, right?

It's completely cartoony if you snap someone neck in real life they be dead. In Smash they shrug it off like it was nothing. It's no worse than beating someone with your head (Mario,Luigi) or Beating someone with your sword handle. (Link)

I undetstand what you're saying, and you're right. Snake is different and more realistic than the other characters, but I don't think that's no reason for him to be cut, as this is why why Snake works so well in Smash, because he sticks out.

Yes, it's true that snapping necks is a bit extreme in a perspective. And what we're trying to say is that if you're categorizing the other character's moveset as "Cartoon Violence" because they look cartoony is a baseless argument. To make it even more clear, let's show off some other moves that could be taken the wrong way
  • Ganondorf's Side Special: Posted by Hylian Hero Big Boss earlier, there is dark magic involved, but if you know Ganondorf, it's fairly clear he's literally crushing the opponents face.
  • Peach slapping people in the face and hitting them with things like golf clubs, pans, etc.
  • Ness swinging a wooden bat at someone
  • Little Mac (and many more) punching people in the face? Hello?
  • Falco and Fox slamming people to the ground before shooting them
  • Bashing people with hammers
To top that off, if it's so bad, why would they include snapping people necks in the first place? Now, you're probably thinking
"Well... you see, snapping necks sticks out like a sore thumb..."
Tell me, which is more violent, snapping someone's neck, or bludeoning someone with a golf club or baseball bat.

I am a Snake supporter, (though I haven't commented here for a week or two) but I can see where @ SmashBro99 SmashBro99 is coming from, though I don't feel like thats a reason against Snake. If anything, I think the fact that he's so different makes him even better for Smash, since it expands the field of characters.

You wouldn't see Bugs Bunny snap Daffy's neck, but you would see him hit him over the head with a hammer. Same with lasers, bats, slaps, and magic. Arguing that these would technically be more gory in real life is kinda dumb, because thats like arguing that they should make a Glock be a weapon because it would be less gory than the super hammer in real life. I don't know why I am against realistic guns in smash, but okay with Snake's neck snapping, but for some reason I am.

I also think that arguing over whether or not someone fits in the game is dumb. For some people, he fits, and for others, he doesn't, and no matter how many examples of how other things are technically more gory or violent, it's an opinion. Don't get me wrong, Snake is my most wanted character out of anyone, newcomers and veteran, but I can see why people think he doesn't fit.

All the weapons, as billy's_dad said, ARE cartoony...think of Looney Tunes and them smacking eachother with weapons (hammers, bats, whatever) that's completely different than what Snake does. Slaps?... Ganondorf is a bit different, he's a brutal character. But the fact that he's using dark magic feels like a whole other category, not cartoony violence, not realistic either, just super evil video game bad guy violence.

I've never played a MSG game, I'm not a Snake fan or supporter. I mean I think he's cool, the Kirby hat is my favorite and the codecs were awesome, I wouldn't hate it if he returned, but my opinion is still he seems out of place. I can see why some of you think that's a plus, because he's different, but I see it differently.

Here's a post by me from a few pages back specifically addressing people who think Snake seems out of place but have never played a Metal gear game:
I think many of the people who say that Snake doesn't fit in Smash have clearly never played a Metal Gear game. Sure he's a grizzled professional soldier, but in many ways, he's a parody or pastiche of that archetype, and he has loads more personality than the generic army men so common in a lot of games these days. Furthermore, Metal Gear Solid is a big reason why that archetype became such a popular one for game protagonists in the first place, making Snake not just a grizzled professional soldier, but THE grizzled professional soldier. The fact that his character became the model for so many other protagonists just goes to show that he's one of the most iconic video game characters of all time, period. Absolutely on par with Mario, Sonic, Megaman, and Pac-Man. He's consistently appeared in popularity polls ranked near and often above iconic Nintendo characters like Link and Mario, in both Japan and the US. His series has moved the medium forward time and time again in terms of what's possible from both a storytelling and gameplay perspective. He certainly owes a lot to Hollywood action heroes, but no more than Link owes a lot to fantasy protagonists or Captain Falcon owes a lot to Super Sentai shows.

I also get the sense that a lot of people who aren't very familiar with the series or character outside of Brawl think that the Metal Gear games are just straight-faced military themed games, not realizing that the Metal Gear series is just as goofy and eccentric as Mario and Zelda, if not more so in many cases. Sure, it deals with some mature subject matter, and has a particularly nuanced take on the nature of war, but always alongside robot ninjas and recurring characters whose primary trait is chronic diarrhea. Even the latest grimdark Keifer Sutherland voiced outing, despite incorporating themes of torture, war ****, mutilation, child soldiers, and how revenge slowly corrupts those who seek it at any cost, nonetheless features a mechanic where you can abduct wild animals using a helium balloon, and horses that **** at random intervals while you ride them. The major antagonist's name is "Skull Face". The plot still prominently features a giant mech that shoots nukes. You know, the ridiculous and contrived anime-esque plot point that the entire series is named after. The silly and over the top elements of the series easily outnumber the more serious aspects. Even in its darkest entries, Metal Gear maintains a tone and atmosphere that keeps it lighthearted and fun. It's a comic book version of the real world. And while this "real world" setting makes its themes hit a bit closer to home, I don't think any of the themes themselves (at least before MGSV) are really that much darker than similar themes that Metroid or Fire Emblem have explored.

I think Snake fits perfectly. He brings something totally unique to the table in terms of his design, but in a way that complements the other characters rather than feeling totally jarring, at least in my opinion, and he hails from a series that is just as "Nintendo-esque" as Megaman or Sonic when examined closely. Sure, he's a realistic human, but so are a number of other Smash characters who never get accused of being out of place. This is also a series that features character diversity as one of its greatest strengths, and saying a character feels "out of place" in a game where that's kind of the entire point just feels like a meaningless justification for not liking the character. Does Game and Watch feel out of place? Do Miis? Everyone is out of place. This is a crossover fighting game.

If you didn't feel like reading that, let me put it more simply. The Metal Gear games are violent, yes, but context matters. And see, Metal Gear is ridiculously goofy. Just as goofy as any number of Nintendo games. Certainly much goofier than Metroid by an order of magnitude. Snake may use real weapons (although he also uses a variety of imaginary ones), and there is violence and gore (honestly pretty tame compared to most M games), but the context in which this violence appears is so ridiculously over the top and irreverent that it's a bit dishonest to call any of it "realistic'. Exhibit A:

What you just saw is but a taste of Metal Gear's silliness. The Phantom Pain looks like it's taking a pretty jarring nosedive in tone considering the last game allowed you to fight dragons in a cardboard box shaped like a tank, but that doesn't change the fact that what you just saw is much more representative of Metal Gear as a whole than any of the E3 trailers for the new game. I'm hoping maybe it helped you re-evaluate Snake and Metal Gear and maybe see things from our perspective. If not, I'd be happy to continue debating you on this point. Just try to understand, for people who have actually played the series, Snake running around with a Super Hammer and throwing Pokeballs is really pretty par for the course. He does stupid **** like that all the time in his own games. Also, go play Metal Gear dumb dumb, you're missing out on one of the greatest series in gaming.

I dont understand, you said snakes moves are not cartoon violence so he does not fit in, but then go on and say ganandorf is not really cartoon violence either. Why does Ganondorf get an exception to fitting in? If Ganondorf's violence is different from the others, doesn't that mean he doesn't ''fit in'' either?
