So it’s probable the Gmod team fell for a fake DMCA and assumed it was from Nintendo.

Yeah that is some ****, especially since many mod creators have recently been talking about receiving a bunch of fake claims from people who aren't Nintendo. I guess this is the final nail.

Kinda wild how copyright law allows people to impersonate companies and just have them file takedown requests just for the fun of it.

Like I wouldn't be surprised if Nintendo did it but this isn't the first time someone did something like that.
