Just saw Wicked. It was fun. Not amazing. But fun.

I think most of the problems I have with it are just how it specifically decides to be a prequel to the Wizard of Oz. Some of the elements just don't line up to me. Like it's weird that there's this Harry Potter esque boarding school in Oz. It's weird that technically the Wicked Witch is part Munchkin despite the fact that she's not tiny. In fact none of the munchkins were particularly short. And maybe it's just me, but I never thought the Scarecrow or Tin Man were ever anything but a scarecrow and a tin man. So the fact that they started out as normal humans is just... weird.

Also it just deals tonally dissonant to have the prequel to The Wizard of Oz spend it's first half focused on high school drama... or college drama... I can't tell. How old are they supposed to be? They're still being played by the actors and actresses who will play them as adults when Dorothy shows up as evidence by the opening, but you can not ever get me to believe that the Wicked Witch of the West was that young in the original film.

IDK. Maybe if I had seen it as a stage show I'd feel differently about it but the story and product as is just feels weird to me in a lot of ways.

I still think I prefer Oz the Great and Powerful
