Small write-up incoming.
Problem with Pokémon for me at the minute is that it didn't really do a grand jump to Switch as to when Mario, Zelda and Fire Emblem did, it just felt more baby steps that I've been seeing since X and Y. Comparing it to Three Houses, Mario Odyssey, Breath of the Wild, Smash Bros Ultimate, New Horizons which made grand jumps and become some of the best in their series and GOTY nominated at least, it was extremely disappointing.
It's part of why I've always seen Pokemon as kinda strange in gaming. It's a franchise that I'm so surprised has not been nominated for GOTY or won multiple awards but it sells really well. I see it as a JRPG but I don't see as one of the big series in a way as I do to Final Fantasy, Xenoblade and Persona. It's like it's own section, just there but not part of the line-up. And honestly until the series really starts stepping up it's game in certain ways like the graphics issues I won't really see it as like the ones I've mentioned.
I'd be over the moon if this year if we had something like the Pokemon Diamond/Pearl Remakes in which it was a grand step in graphics, gameplay, interactivity and ended up being nominated for GOTY up against the likes of Horizon Forbidden West, Halo Infinite, Resident Evil Village etc. It'd be amazing.
Until then it's just a weird sheep of a franchise in my eyes.
