Programmers don’t get enough credit, they take stories and characters and make it all work. They’re the backbone of any game.
Funny that I think in the Industry, at least from what I have seen...it's the other way around.

For example, Michel Ancel alongside other person came up with the concept of Rayman, and they were also programmers.

But the one that designed Rayman's character as we know him was actually his wife, or the woman that would eventually become his wife, Alexandra Ancel. And I feel that unlike her husband, she doesn't get any credit, same with the person that worked beside him and the GIANT team that also worked since the first Rayman game.

Only Ancel gets it, specially from the "community". I mean, the fact that there are people that strongly make it sound like he did everything by himself, and even confuse him for a visual artist that designed Rayman when it was his wife this entire time, honestly makes me feel kind of baffled. Yeah, I used to believe that too, until I began to notice things regarding that like the wife gifting a drawing she made of Rayman, looking exactly like Rayman 2's concept art and then a friend showed me Rayman 1's entire credits.

And then then whole drama regarding Ancel being an abuser to his employees and me noticing his clearly not healthy behaviour when trying to "defend himself", and after dealing with people that act just like him, I just didn't want to have anything to do with him (while others saw it differently), but I still love Rayman as a character, and his wife is a great artist that did so much.

So just bursting out some thoughts here. These type of posts get buried from me but eh.

1. I've more or less beaten the new palace in Persona 5 Royal................but I'm not giving my thoughts until the after the credits roll.

2. Lockdown has been issued with legal force in where I am which is **** BUT they can't stop me from needing to go to doctor's and dentist so mwhahaha I can still stock up on snacks while I'm there.

3. 51 Worldwide Games is £25 so I think I'm gonna get cause the Toy games look fun and Chess or Resident Evil 2.

4. Miss the Sonic games talk. Sonic Rush is still the best, case closed.

5. Need to seriously get the vivid dreams thing sorted. Now I'm having dreams involving trains divebombing into the ocean and I've been seeing more and more anime characters in them. No, I haven't been drinking.

Not sure if this is 100% a guarantee (it could just be the opinion of the article's author, since it's not a direct statement from anyone at Warner Bros.), though if this is the case, it doesn't bode well for Ben Affleck's Batman in the Flashpoint movie. (assuming that ever gets made) Which is a shame - if he had better material to work with (and Zack Snyder didn't misinterpret a panel from The Dark Knight Returns), I think he could do well. (I liked his portrayal in Justice League)

Here's hoping they don't replace Henry Cavill as well.
Flash is still set for 2022...tho I still kinda wish they didn't rush into Flashpoint

and Henry Cavill being replaced is literally illegal for DC to even consider
In other words, Scooby-Doo but IN JAPAAAAAAAAAN.
idk why this reminded me of the Scooby-Doo/Courage tbe Cowardly Dog crossover that's meant to happen

I'm more so referring to a situation where the director of the game and the programmer of the game aren't the same person. For example, when people talk about the folks behind Smash, they talk about Sakurai, typically not the programmers. I dunno, that's just what I've seen, what I've seen could be totally different than what's actually going on.

And holy crap, yeah that Ancel stuff ain't cool. Never knew about that until now.

On one hand, the competitive spirit in me wants to go onto Elite Smash and push my Pokemon Trainer to its limit by rising in GSP and fighting stronger and stronger players.

On the other hand, my lizard brain is scared too since they higher you go the harder it is to gain meaningless ranking points compared to losing it and I'm afraid of losing in embarrassing ways.

Well this is a predicament.

Ugh, Sakurai is just like Ancel in many ways including that, and I don't like either of them. I feel bad for the rest of the team, because if a decision the Director makes go wrong, now they point their fingers towards the Team, but when everything is peachy keen, they take all the credit and sometimes putting someone that high on a pedestal is not good, when the let you down hurts a lot more. At least in my case I was surprised about Ancel's behaviour for a total of 10 seconds before just feeling indifference and not siding with him because it was just like everything else I have seen before surrounding the industry.

When it would ever come to actually designing a game, I feel I would excel the most at the stuff nobody really gives a second thought about like logos and UI design. I found myself being surprisingly good at graphic design stuff like logos and general placement of stuff like UI, it’s mainly my artistic skill that’s holding me back.

Yeahhhh I’d hate to be the idea guy. The game isn’t actually being programmed by me, it’s being programmed by a pal of mine I’ve known for a few years, though I still am trying to contribute to it by making the characters, story, scripts, game design, some concept artwork, etc. To be honest though, I’d say it’s more so both of our game than just mine. Programmers don’t get enough credit, they take stories and characters and make it all work. They’re the backbone of any game.
Which is why I’m researching game maker. It seems pretty easy to use, but I don’t wanna start spending many before I’ve got everything in order.

The problem when It comes to Nintendo games is that the main public tend to associate most Nintendo games as creations of the company and Smash Bros just as a Masahiro Sakurai vision, when in reality all Nintendo games are result of a collective work.

Luigi's Mansion 3 wouldn't be as good as It is without the progress Next Level Games has made with the series since Luigi's Mansion 2, Mario Tennis Aces wouldn't be so fun and better than Ultra Smash if It wasn't for Camelot handling the reception of their past Mario Tennis and improving upon them, and so on. Even Mario Kart 7 wouldn't have turned out the way It did if It wasn't for Retro Studios coming in with the support.

If we want to let the industry in general give appreciation to the entire collective of people and not just a specific person or identity, we need to push for minor stuff like taking some time to check the credits for each game, associate games with the work of many groups or teams and of course make sure to let people know about who worked on the games through social media.

If stuff like this keeps going on in the industry, we could be finding ourselves with more cases in the style of Mighty Number 9 where people backed a Game thinking It would be good just because It had one person who worked in MegaMan behind It... When in reality the MegaMan series was always the result of a work from a big team at Capcom.

I used it a bit, for what it is it’s alright but it’s fairly limited all things considered. Combat in particular is pretty iffy without a major overhaul

Course, if you’re creative enough you can do some cool **** with it. I know a few games which have been made from it.

I don't think I've seen this apply to Sakurai honestly, 'specially the "taking all the credit" part. He praised the programmers on the Steve presentation if I recall correctly. Doesn't seem like taking all the credit to me. I'm not gonna take Sakurai for some saint though. Human beings are flawed, and I don't know everything that goes on behind Smash's development. Can't really speak for Ancel since frankly I know jack about the development behind Rayman besides what you just told me to be honest.

With a lot of games, when you're the one doing the presentations and such, and when you're the director, fans are gonna see you as the face of the franchise, that's natural. Miyamota is seen as the face of the Mario franchise, Aonuma is seen as the face of the Zelda franchise, etc. I don't really know if there's a solid way to avoid that.

I totally agree with this. This is how it should be.

Like, the entire team, and each group or person handling their respective roles make the game whole. And even if one person could do everything by themselves if they wanted to, it's even a bigger challenge than having at least a small team or a partner to share the responsibilities with.

That is why I LOVE finding each one of the concept artists that worked on games I like, see more about the writers or get to know the voice actors. Every single one is different, but I am equally thankful that they all created something that brought so much joy to me and many more.

In Sakurai's defense, that's more of an issue with the fans than him. In several videos, he gives credit to the team that helps out in certain aspects, such as how he gave a big shoutout to the programming team for working so hard to put Steve in the game. However, since he's the director, he's the face of the franchise and thus he's the one you would see the most, which is a double-edged sword. However, there are (hopefully) no reports of him being an asshole, unlike other directors like Ancel and Neil Druckmann.

It's like the movie and animation industry, where the directors and voice actors get talked about the most, but there's still unsung heroes behind the media.

Honestly, Sakurai doesn't seem like the kind of guy who just steal all the glory and never mention anyone else. He always thanks the peoples who helped him get a character to work, and the peoples he work with seem to enjoy working with him, if the laugh you can hear in character presentation are anything to go by.

Now Kojima... It's a bit more mixed here, if you know the "A Hideo Kojima game" Memes, it's fair to say the man love putting his name in lots of places, and outside of the celebrity he work with, I don't remember him mentioning his team or thanking them for the success of MGS as a franchise. Tho I could be wrong here.

So, there is one difference between the two, and they were friends, weren't they? That is how Snake got in Brawl, I believe.

It's Sony making a Spider-Man sequel with too many characters all over the place.

This has already happened two times and both backfired awfully (except that the first time It did well on the box-office at the cost of freedom of creativity for the team behind the movie).

I'm talking more about the relations they have with their teams here.

Tho I will say, Toby Fox had a good time with Sakurai too and he got Sans as a Mii Costume, and SNK were so cool with him they gave out 50 songs without problems. So really, Sakurai just seem to be a cool fella all around.

Yeah, sorry about that. I wasn't replying about their friendship, but more about the differences between them, regardless of friendship, or at least I was trying to.

Sakurai does remind me of one IRL friend I have.

They are really cool and a really epic person all around, but both are so obsessed with work they never leave their house or work-zone because they are that dedicated to what they do.
