What would you salvage from it?

The designs of the monsters and characters can be kept. The concept of the world, but like the landmarks and layout would need to be completely reworked. The core archetype of the characters is fine, but they need more of a personality, more distinct voices, and more distinct journies through the plot. The plot itself needs to be completely re-written. In the original things just sort of happen. It barely felt like there was any cause and effect either in your actions or in the world around you and the plot was so hard to follow I could barely tell you what happened. I'd probably make a majority of the beats be about deliberately hunting down both the Tombs where the Royal Arms are and the resting places of the summons. Oh, and make it so you can use Royal Arms without draining your health. That was so stupid. Arenea and Iris need to be permanently recruit able. The battle system needs reworked, honestly they already reworked it. It's called the FF7R battle system. The side quests need to be trimmed down in quantity, made more varied in their objective and context, and placed at specific downtime moments in the story the way 7R did so it doesn't ever feel like you're wasting your time. Ummm... what else.... the crossover side-quests were cool... those can stay....

The last time a company revived a series purely because of memes, we got multiple Bubsy sequels where it seems like the best way that they could be described is "not terrible". (which, admittedly, is a step up from Bubsy 3D)

That alone should make it clear that it's not worth it.
