SSBBMRPG

Hello Brawlers!
Now, most of you know the game for the SNES-- Super Mario RPG.
Haven't heard of the classic Mario game? Click here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Super_Mario_RPG#Plot

Now, with the release of Shadic and IndigoFenix's Geno characters, this has given alot of SMRPG fans the joy of having Geno, a character from SMRPG, a playable character.

But let's not forget the other memorable characters from SMRPG- Mallow, Croco, Boshi, Smithy, Exor-- All of which should have their SSBB spotlight.

What is the point of this project? To completely make new characters, music, stages, and textures to give players what it would be like if SMRPG had a chance to be in Brawl. Here you can find a list of things to do:

Characters:

:mario2:= Mario w/ SMRPG moveset
:peach:= Hearts of Justice Peach (Giving credit to the maker of this wonderful PSA)
:metaknight:= Mac the Knife
:kirby2:= Mallow
:yoshi2:= Boshi, Croco
:ganondorf:= Jynx
:bowser2:= SMRPG Moveset
:toonlink:= Geno

Stages:

Coming soon!

Music:

Coming soon!

If you would like to volunteer for the duty of making a Character, Stage, or BRSTM music file, post here.

Some may be saying, "cuckoos, you lazy arse! What'll you be doing?"
I will take care of quite a few textures, and if I get better, PSA characters.

So post with comments, and suggestions! If there is a soundtrack, character, or stage you would like to see, request it here, and we will get to it if we have the time.

What are you waiting for, join the SSBBMRPG project and make them Square fans
happy!

SUB PROJECT: MALLOW

Yes, our puffy friend Mallow is the current discussion of the thread. He is a WIP, being made by me, with help from IndigoFenix and others. This is my first PSA character, so you can expect some bumps along the way, but this character will turn out great, for use in the project, of course.

Moveset: (Specials by Indigo, w/ help from me.
B: Thunderbolt - A medium-sized, decent powered electric attack that spreads out from around Mallow's body.
Side B: Snowy - A short-range, continuous ice attack shot from the hands.
Up B: Cloud walk- Mallow creates a big cloud below him, allowing him to float for a short period of time. does electric damage.
Down B: Shocker - A powerful bolt of lightning that comes down in front of Mallow.

A A A combo: Mallow punches, does a back kick, moving himself forward, and then punches again with electric damage.

Dair: Mallow does multiple kicks hitting downward, spiking the opponent to their doom, with added electric damage.

BANNED:
IceKirby: The local Troll/Spammer. DO NOT WANT

Fun fact: Mallow is puffy.

I swear I saw a stage texture of Forest Maze for Pipes on youtube a while back. That might be a good thing to look up!

As a Massive SMRPG buff, I will watch this, but there is one issue that I find:

I don't think that Smithy can be done justice. With further development of model editing it will become a possibility, but as it stands right now I just don't see it happening.

Of course I have rather over-the-top standards with any project that even remotely mentions SMRPG. (I don't like the current Geno mods, in other words) I also willingly admit that there is nothing that I can do to change it, unless I take a rather large amount of time to learn all of the subtle nuances of creating a character. But my advice will be solid and concise. Hopefully it helps you out in the end.

I am also always available for character balance and move-set creation. I can also help with the development of the project from a non-coding standard. I have quite a few ideas. If you need proof, please look at my icon.

I have Bookmarked this thread.

Well, I'll reserach his SMRPG special moves, and see what I could come up with. Right now, shells seem like a possibility.

I would love to hear your ideas! I will be working on a Boshi moveset. His gameplay would revolve around fast gameplay, while adding unpredictable moves. When we get this project fully going, I would be grateful if you could help out with maybe a Mallow or Mac the Knife moveset.

Someone made an Axem Red Link, maybe we could make the others eventually?
Yeah, but I don't think it turned out that good, wasn't it just a Link with red Clothes? Once model hacking is possible, Axem Red may replace Luigi, or someone similar.

Hmm, sounds like a solid project. Im learning to custom loop as Im posting this, so maybe I can be of some assistance.
Sure, you can help us out. We are accepting all of the help we can get.
Also, I loved your Doc. Mario PSA. I'm using it right now.

I swear I saw a stage texture of Forest Maze for Pipes on youtube a while back. That might be a good thing to look up!
Yep, I already have that texture.

Also, I saw an awesome mallow texture on youtube. If anyone can find that video for me, I would be grateful.

Thank you, bro. Literally. He's my brother. :p
Anyway, I've got a half working Neutral B move for Boshi, except I can't figure out how to get the hitbox on Yoshi's tongue. Can someone help me?

Also, we need to get a Mallow PSA moving.

Yes, and I love your Geno thread.
Actually, I originally made this thread to list all of the top PSA hacks on the web, but then I saw your Geno thread. So I had to make an SMRPG project.
If we may, can we fix up you and IndigoFenix's Geno's? People complain that some moves are broken.

EDIT: Oh wait, all you did was advertise your thread. ;_; Not cool

I mentioned it because it's lacking attention, despite being part of this "project" of yours.

As for construction of multiple Genos, we're working on it.

I thought Dedede would be smithy.

He throws waddle dees, waddle doos, and gordos as Smithy makes weapons as if he throws soldiers.

Dedede and Smithy wield hammers.

Dedede has a similar sructure to smithy

I don't know about ttransformations, but I saw dedede better than ganondorf

Would I be allowed to help if I made Stages from Stage studio?

Stage builder stages? I don't know, we're kinda looking for actual stage texture hacks...
Show ya stages, and I might consider it.

As for your Dedede query, I might do that once model hacking comes out.

And once Dedede can be loaded in PSA...

Anyway, I've got some good ideas for Mallow, but some of the others I just don't know. What kind of moves should Boshi have, for example? He never did any fighting in the game... And Meta Knight as Mack... That's kind of stretching it, don't you think?

For my Mallow idea, here's what I'm thinking:

B: Thunderbolt - A medium-sized, decent powered electric attack that spreads out from around Mallow's body.
Side B: Snowy - A short-range, continuous ice attack shot from the hands.
Up B: Acid Rain (because HP Rain wouldn't work) - Mallow floats up on a cloud, dropping rain that damages enemies below him, has a floaty effect, better at horizontal recovery than vertical.
Down B: Shocker - A powerful bolt of lightning that comes down in front of Mallow.

Out of all his Specials, I'd say that those should be the ones that are used, since Psychopath wasn't an attack and Star Rain would have to be his Final. They also should all be doable in PSA. (I've heard someone mention the idea of using Psychopath as a stunning ability, but I think that this set is better, especially since that isn't what Psychopath did anyway. Besides, Mallow's special moves should all be weather-based, I think.)
I've got no ideas for his normal attacks, though, especially since Kirby doesn't leave much room for stretchy punches, froggie sticks, or cymbals...
I might make this my next project, after Geno's finished.

I love the Mallow idea, great job! You made it up?

Also, Boshi is a racer. In SMRPG, he proves he is very fast, although Yoshi only won with Mario's help. While I'm making Boshi, I'm keeping in mind his two attributes: He is a badace Yoshi, who is also a very fast runner. It is also said that at the end of the game, he befriends Croco, the crocodilian thief. So maybe I'll add some moves that involve maybe bombs or other of Croco's moves. Zelda or Captain falcon didn't do much fighting tho, so this seems fit.

Do they have to be from SMRPG or just any stages I made?
I checked the stage editor thing you mentioned, all it does is make custom stages. If you are good at texturing characters and stages, we might need you. It's not supposed to be custom stages, but thanks for volunteering anyway!

I can make .brstm files, so give me a song and I'll convert it.
That would be super special awesome, thank you! I'll maybe get you some SMRPG tracks later.

I see where you're going now, that's sounding like a good idea - I had some ideas for including Croco as a Smash character, so giving Boshi some of Croco's moves could work well with what you're saying. To give you some ideas, I was thinking that Croco (or Boshi) should have his signature wait-then-dash attack as his side-B and his bombs as his up- or down-B - too bad that last one would require article editing, unless you wanted to make it a fake projectile, that is.

And yes, I did come up with that moveset for Mallow long before PSA was even invented (I was a huge SMRPG fan, and had made up Smash movesets for my favorite characters.)

I'm surprised, though, that there hasn't been any mention of my second-favorite SMRPG character ever - Sensei Jinx! Am I the only one who think he'd be a perfect Smash contender? Not that there's anyone in Brawl who would make a good hack base, but if you're going so far as to make Mack out of Meta Knight or Smithy out of Ganon, you've got to have Jinx in there somewhere. Olimar maybe?

If only I knew how to do any of the fancy hacking/modeling/texturing stuff. But I do have ideas :)

And I have an idea for a SMRPG stage.

Bowser's Keep

You fight on the top of the Keep's front wall, between the two towers and above the gate. Looming above the stage in the background is Exor, watching the battle and sneering/laughing/glowering/other facial expressions. Occasionally he casts a spell that attacks the stage (Corona - could use Porky's electric ball/ray attack for it; Meteor Swarm - drops several exploding stars on the field, recolored Bob-Ombs possibly).

Also watching the fight would be random members of the Smithy Gang, different ones on each fight (similar to Smashville and the AC characters being random). They would just watch and taunt/laugh/cheer random players.

Music:
Fight Against An Armed Boss
Fight Against Kadijoh
Bowser's Keep Theme

Nice idea, Charizard, but currently stage hacking is limited to putting new textures over old stages, and doing simple changes like slowing down or stopping stage events.

Perhaps, though, Yoshi's Island can be given a more SMRPG feel and Skyworld could be made into Nimbus Land. Should be doable.

I've also got an idea to make Final Destination into the Gate, to anyone who wants to take the time of making it:

In the first area (rotating galaxy), replace the rotating galaxy with the Star Road, perhaps make the other galaxy and star shapes in the background look like various Mario-esque space-related pictures (starman, etc.)

Add SMRPG-esque visuals (shooting stars, etc.) to the first wormhole, MAYBE (if it would look good, I'm not exactly sure how the background of the wormhole works) place a faint image of the SMRPG world map in the background behind the wormhole graphics.

Replace the background in the second area (space with clouds) with Bowser's Keep, with Exor stuck into it. (Perhaps replace the sunburst with the Blade, it moves around a bit relative to the rest of the background and that could be a nice touch, provided the same sunburst isn't used in all the other backgrounds as well, and provided that it doesn't have to glow.)

Make the second wormhole look like the Gate in Exor's throat.

Make the background of the third area (flying over the ocean) look like you're flying through Smithy's Factory dimension.

A major project, to be sure, but it could potentially be a perfect iconic stage for SMRPG. I just hope whoever does it tries to make it look good and reasonably realistic, and doesn't try to make it more interesting by pasting random sprites from SMRPG in arbitrary places. That doesn't work.

Also, we've got to have the Forest Maze, but I can't think of any stage that would work...

A major project indeed, but I'm sure it is doable.

Distant Planet would work well for Forest Maze. Retexture the Bulborb into a more SMRPG enemy and put Bowyer in the background image, along with making the textures more like the original Forest Maze.

Okay, guys. Just letting you know that this project is still alive. If you want to help with the project, PM me, and you will become part of the team. Once we have 5 people working on this, we will start working on PSA characters and textures. Right now, I'm working on a prototype Mallow and Boshi. So join today! Or any other day. Just join.

If you make Distant Planet into forest maze, you should color the bulborb like a wiggler, since unless you have unrestricted camera on you never see behind it anyway, so it looks okay with just one segment.

There's a Size attribute, so Sensei Jinx is probably the most do-able character of them all. You can just take a character with a similar body shape and then make then irrecognizably small. Voila.

Where's the size attribute? I heard it was the one right after Weight but when I changed that nothing recognizable happened.

What did you change it to? I've had it work fine.

(My Geno is 10% larger than Toon Link, random fact!)

Well, the size attribute works like a modifier. All characters that have a size of 1 are the same size as their original models. So just raise the size attribute by a few decimals and you should have a bigger character.

Working on Mallow and a Boshi. Boshi is not going so well, but Mallow might be working, see a beta release soon.

For Sensei Jynx, I think a good character base would be possibly Shiek, once model hacking comes out. For now, I could settle for using Olimar or Luigi.

Oh, guys, I have a part of my Mallow PSA on me. Only two of his special moves are done: Snowy (Side B) and Shocker (Neutral B). If you guys want, I'll release an alpha .pac file, but only if you REALLY wanna try it.

A good project.
If you were going to post, at least you could have volunteered or helped with something. That was spam.

Anyway, does anybody want a Mallow release?

EDIT: Oh, yeah, IceKirby, I forgot you're a troll. You're banned. From the thread.

I'm actually trying to make the Gate out of Final Destination using the idea I had before. The first and last parts look great (Star Road and the Factory) but I'm having trouble making the second area into Bowser's Keep - there doesn't seem to be a texture for just the whole background that only appears in that area. Hmm...

Also, I'd like to see that Mallow. You said you made B into Shocker - did you mean Thunderbolt, or are you using a different design?

Okay guys, just releasing a WIP version of Mallow. Changes:
Neutral B: Thunderbolt- A wave of lightning come out from Mallow's body, having a mid range and decent damage. Need to Change some things about doing this attack in the air.
Side B: Snowy- Mallow does a double Kick, while Snowflakes generate, freezing the opponent. You cannot do this attack in mid-air yet.
Up B: Work in progress, not done. Yet. I don't even know what it does, so I need someone to test it for me, report any bugs or mishaps.
He is also slightly bigger than Kirby.
