Chlorophix is a grass-type evolution of Steelix.

Chlorophixes are formed of hardened mud and carry a mane of coarse leaves and thorns across the back of their head. The mud is hard enough to handle strong heats, however the Achilles Heel so to speak, of this behemoth is in the mane.

The mane consists of thorns in order to keep threats from pulling at it. If the mane is burned or ripped apart from the Chlorophix in anyway, one would see soft mud and soil across the circular rounds of it's neck; this is equivalent to bare muscle of a human. Likewise, touching this area is extremely painful to the Chlorophix, and the Pokemon will usually retreat into the shades until it's mane grows back.

I was originally going for a full blown grass type, where his rock pieces would instead be replaced with trunks of wood, however it became increasingly apparent that I wouldn't be able to draw such detail in a 100 x 100 or less sprite, so I kept the idea of the Grass Mane, and recolored the Steelix to represent something resembling nature; mud.

I might edit this and add moss to the ends, or leaves to the end of Chlorophix's spikes, however last time I tried this, it looked look anywhere near how I'd expect it; I like the simplicity of this one already.

Also, the name Chlorophix is inspired by Chlorophyll, a green pigment found in most plants. [/collapse]

For what it's worth, I don't use those typing pictures because I prefer plain text.

That's a great entry. I would even make its body more soil-like. Since it's Ground I think it would look nice if its segments looked like softer dirt, right now it still looks kind of rock hard. Might be the brightness of the highlights or something.

Nice though. Hope I have enough time to make something for tomorrow as well.

Thank you! I hope you have time to make one as well! :'D.

Well, the contest hasn't ended yet, perhaps I'll some edits :].

The only part that has bare soil is around the mane btw, which isn't viewable.

I doubt I'll win by default, Chibo has a sprite in the works, and Neon's a good spriter as well.

*edit - added a pretty flower :3c. Also darkened it to resemble mud a bit more.

Presenting Aqualix! (Creative name, right?)
If you have any suggestions, please make them. I really feel like I'm missing something here.

Oh man, Roxy's is so awesome.

Hmm.. Well you put effort as well as a lot of thought in your sprite (fins, taking away Steelix's jagged edges). However I have difficulty with if the body and head actually work together.

I see you used the places were spikes were as fins; while it was smart I recommend actually taking the spikes out entirely, and putting fins in different places to make it actually look like the Aqualix is flowing, a bit like Gyrados; right now it looks like his body is uncomfortably turning.

I see some shading here and there, but while the head has good depth, the body doesn't have as much, probably because you had to color over it; I'd recommend going back into that as well.

I like the idea, and think if you continued to go over it with a few more drafts you could come up with something very nice; don't be afraid to take some extra time if you feel something wrong. The fact that you feel something missing more than likely means that something is missing.

Very Nice job Canvasch, with the purpose I'd assume it's a poison type correct?

edit: Poison/Steel makes more sense. Perhaps add some poison bubbles or something around around his body :).

I edited my sprite some more, gave a male and female Chlorophyx.

If anything, I recommend looking at poison type pokemon and looking at common qualities, taking ideas from those and putting them in your pokemon can help :).

I got my mane idea from a Torterra sprite, and my flower idea from a Marakacchi sprite; it does wonders.

I could see you getting the koffing symbol and engraving it on your pokemon's head, you can emit poisonous gas from your pokemon's nostrils; there are loads of things :)

Actually it might be necessary to make it less steel-like, the prompt says it can't be retyped to Steel or Ground so Poison/Steel might get points detracted.

Poison types can be sort of slimy if you want to go in that direction. Less hard edges, more dripping stuff maybe?

Introducing: Glacilix! (
/
)

Partly based on when water falls between the cracks of rock, freezes, and expands, which weathers the rocks down. I had alot of fun, and believe it or not, that IS a Steelix head, just heavily altered.

EDIT: Actually on second glance, it's definitely based on an ice cube lol.

I luv ice.

EDIT2: Sweet jesus this thing would be ***** to hell and back by Stealth Rocks.

Very well done MK! :D!

I don't really know what else to say outside of that, lol. Great colors, great editing, overall great job!

I really hope that doesn't deduct points Neon :(. I thought that the prompt was referring to not making it straight steel or straight ground. If that's the case though I could also get started on another right now :o

Hmmm

I managed to scratch together a skull/crossbones to fit on its head, and (failed at) giving it some sort of body pattern (they looked more like scabs).

I was/am not sure what exactly to do with the steel. I added the blade on the tail mostly because it looks cool. ATM I'm trying to give it a sort of muk layered look.

MK, the little bit of dithering under the base of the neck seems out of place, and the end of the tail looks weird at that angle. Other than that, everything else is amazing, especially the head.

Move over, Skarmory.

Say hello to Feeblix.

To clear things up, you can keep either Steel or Ground, but you cannot change Steel to Ground or vice versa. So basically, you can retype Steelix halfly or wholly. Also in light of Roxy posting M/F sprites for his single Pokémon, I would like to point out that this is okay. So long as you are representing one single species, you may accompany your entry with a Male and Female sprite. It is not required in the least bit as one will suffice, but keep in mind that it might just give us a different perspective on the artist's take on their design.

Edit: Really Wave?

Really?

I didn't really have time to do much, busy with studying for my physics midterm. Speaking of which, uh, crap, I keep on opening Chrome.

The whole "ololol (first poster) is winner by default" posts grow continually useless and arbitrary. Let's face it, people work through the deadline and finish a couple days before/the day before the deadline. I'm no longer worried when spurts on inactivity occur. :)

It makes sense that so many people would post at the end of the week, but it just seemed weird xD

Ok I don't know if I'm totally done with this yet but I am done with it for today.

Edit: Removed the dots near the tail. They were supposed to be little droplets of poison but admittedly they were kinda dumb. Maybe if I feel like it later Ill do something else or come up with a backstory, but for now here is my entry.

Ok it's story time

Miasmix
Poison/Steel

We all know that trading an onix with a metal coat evolves it into steelix, but what if the onix is poisoned? Steel types cant be poisoned because they are protected by a metal coat, but in this special case it works the other way around, and the metal insulates the poison and it becomes miasmix.

Miasmix still has traces of its former steel typing, but for the most part the steel has melted away from the poison, giving miasmix a body of gloopy, melted, and poisonous metal. Its tail is very dense and sharp, and it can inject parts of its poisonous body through the blade into the open wounds it causes. Miasmix is so territorial that its blade is usually stained red with the blood of its victims.

Presenting... Jetix!

This reincarnation of Steelix has been lifted from burrowing underground to taking flight with the birds! His body, still made of Steel, has been refined and smoothed for an aerodynamic feel, perfect for flying through the air. But how can a massive Steel object fly through the skies? It's powered by a jet engine!

It's name, Jetix, keeps the -ix suffix found in the rest of it's evolutionary line and works with the prefix jet- since it is formed after a jet, and is part flying type. It has fewer body sections in exchange for making each larger. In the middle of its body are wings with jet engines attached to them for him to take flight. You don't want to get hit by an aeroblast from one of these things! Well, that is if Steelix's special attack wasn't so low :/

Additionally, while making Jetix I wasn't sure what angle the engine and wings had to be when seen in this angle so I actually made a rough 3D model to get an idea of the placement of the wings and their angle. Because of the change of the body structure aside from the head it's all custom made from scratch. I also took a couple of features off the head to make it more streamlined. I know it doesn't appear as different as it probably should be overall, but with keeping the Steel type in tact the head isn't going to change much.

Chibo, change the wings' outline color so the brighter areas of outline are lighter-colored.
