Rosalina was a... strange case. She gained just enough popularity in the Mario series that it seems like Nintendo began to push her into as many things as they could Mario related to see how well she would continue to stick as if they have more plans for her in the future. That's left to be seen I suppose.

It's definitely not your standard character introduction and rise to character popularity though the Mario series often times seem to have different rules to this compared to other Nintendo franchises.

Ridley is still really hard to gauge popularity wise. Given his rather specific regional appeal, the sometimes sporadic sales numbers on the Metroid series, the very few number of eligible characters in the series itself, I kind of wonder if some ascept of some people wanting ridley is simply default when it comes ot metroid reps. Not that I'm accusing anyone in this thread of that being the reason people want Ridley it was just kind of a thought.

I agree with that, several people (Majority probably, seeing as Metroid doesn't sell so well) want/don't want Ridley because of his appearances in Smash and the fact that his supporters/detractors are so vocal.

Personally, I was like that for including him in Brawl, had never played a Metroid game. Then I picked up the Prime collection about 2 years ago and he instantly jumped up to both my most wanted Nintendo character for Smash and my favorite Nintendo villain.

That mistake has to be rectified. Ridley's Super Space Adventure, thats a free one Ninty, make it happen! (wouldnt mind it being some eShop shmup thing or something)

If Ridley should isn't playable, I just want Sakurai to end all of this, I don't wanna feel how many of you felt when discovered he was a boss in Brawl, waiting the game's release for the deconfirmation of your #1 most expected character(currently #1, poor Zoroark)

Many are saying that the DK and Metorid franchises need more reps, and both are lacking villains. K. Rool is the no-brainer choice for the DK faction, and really there's no better option then Ridley as the Metroid antagonist.

Those two seem to be garnering special attention from Sakurai what with Kremlings in Smash Run and...everything else with Ridley, and being that together they are among the most wanted internationally (granted Ridley being more Western orientated) it only makes sense they'd get extra hyping beyond the usual.

Well said. I holding out some hope that Ridley and K. Rool are playable. I think that those two would make fans the happiest. They'd almost be as hype as Megaman's reveal. I'm hoping for Ridley a bit more, since I like him more.

Pyrosphere isn't seen anywhere except in the Direct that comes with it. What do you all think of this possibility?

E3 is basically guaranteed to reveal Ridley's fate simply because of the tournament. Sakurai doesn't have to announce anything. He will either be there on the pyrosphere as a boss, or won't be. Even if they just DON'T let people play on pyrosphere, that's so suspicious that basically comes off as a skirt around of Ridley's confirmation.

I think, if he is playable, he'll just appear in the inevitable E3 trailer before the tournament starts. That or he'll be like WFT and show up after the main event (but again, before the tournament).

Don't know how you got to talk about toad but I really have a pretty mixed opinion on him.

So, ridley was a boss. So, it explains why he would be a boss in brawl but the thing is, he's not JUST a boss. The series is using him as the main antagonist and even in some part emphasise on him. It's why he's more important than "just a boss" and thus, why he legitimately could be in the roster.

My problem with toad is that I don't have this feeling. If you think about it, toad's main role is being peach's servant and a replacement to people and npc like in the paper mario series. So, technically, by being peach's neutral b as a shield. it would explain why it was that on melee, brawl, and in ssb4. The problem I have is it really important enough to go further? This questions really bugs me because I haven't found any answer that would answer to yes with a legitimate reason. I checked his support thread and for the moveset potential, euh... I just felt that it was too "searched" to a point when it wouldn't represent the character like c falcon does (fire represent the destruction of his opponents, speed represent his role and the falcon shape punch represent his emblem). It's true that he isn't generic but... to some extent. He isn't alone but not when there's a bunch of them with multiple colours and we tend to see this alot so is there really A toad?

Again, this is something that bugs me alot and I would like to have answer that would clear any doubts of mine. But, I don't think it will happen as much as I hear about him. I tend to find him overrated because of that (I sincerely think that the best mario candidates are Paper mario, bowser jr and to some extent, Waluigi which has been deconfirmed).

If they don't announce Ridley but then avoid letting people play on Pyrosphere altogether, that's massive evidence in favor of Ridley being playable. Like, that is a RIDICULOUSLY orthodox step toward masking Ridley's rile.

Well that entirely depends what rules are set. If they use the for glory mode with the FD stages, the Pyroshere stage wouldn't have the hazards at all.

It is certainly a possibility, but at that point, they are just delaying the inevitable reveal. If Pyrosphere wasn't available, I would probably start believing that Ridley was a stage-hazard. I don't see why they wouldn't use a hype-inducing reveal like Ridley during E3. So I would jump ship.

Honestly, there's a lot of potential for a Fusion stage. I love Zero Mission/Metroid 1 as much as the next guy, but we've already explored Zebes to death in Smash Brothers. I'd love to see them draw inspiration from any of the other handheld Metroid games, and Fusion seems the best candidate.

It was confirmed that there are NO unlockable characters in MK8 that we don't know about. At all. The review embargo dropped a few days ago and pretty much every reviewer with a copy of MK8 universally said that there's no more characters. What we know about is what's in the game.
