I've seen plenty of people come in here just to discuss a point and you guys seem to get super defensive though, but this thread does get trolled pretty hard so I guess I can understand why some people feel the need to get angry at someone else's opinions.
Thing is that someone's opinion won't stop him from being in the game, and we're arguing for why Ridley is a perfectly viable character to have in this game and why he is very likely judging from things Sakurai has said and done. Just because one or two individuals feel that size is everything that is to Ridley doesn't mean he isn't going to be in the game. We've been arguing time and time again why it's clear that Sakurai doesn't really care about size, but it does get very frustrating when people are too ignorant and stubborn, and they end up grasping for the most silly arguments. After 10 years, that does get tiring. There's absolutely no reason to go into a support thread to argue against the character while not being open to having a change of heart.

Plus, if you're going into a character support thread to herald against the inclusion of said character, it's expected that you're going to be one man vs an army, it's like going into a KKK meeting as a black man, don't expect to be met with a warm welcome. Of course people are going to be defensive.

If the point they're trying to discuss is "Ridley is too big," of course we're going to shoot them down. It's a moronic argument. Other than that I don't know what you mean.
That's your opinion haha.

Is Ridley a cool character? Yes I think he is.

Does Metroid deserve a second rep? I have never played a Metroid game but I can respect the series' importance, so yes.

Do I want a giant dragon who seems like they should be much bigger than Bowser or Charizard to be shrunk down to better fit with the other characters? Not really I think he'd look silly, all these mock ups comparing how he would look next to other characters convinced me.

This is all my opinion, and i'm allowed to post it.

If he gets in as a playable fighter I will come here and congratulate all the Ridley fans for their character making it because I do realize you guys get trolled the hardest.

Yes, you're allowed to post it. But you shouldn't come into the pro-Ridley thread and provide the opinion most of us think is idiotic, that we have argued with forever and are unbelievably tired of hearing (especially from people who refuse to listen and simply repeat themselves), and expect nothing but smiles. And just as you're allowed to post it, we're allowed to argue. And when there's one guy arguing that he's too big, ignoring all evidence we provide to support their opinion (and using stupid reasoning of their own to prove their dissenting opinion), I don't know why you would expect anything but being ganged up on.

Can I get your opinion then on this thing I posted a few pages back?

The mock-up AngelGlory made for us is, imo, still the best one out there. I'm absolutely in love with it:

Ridley's size has been just as inconsistent as Bowser's, possibly more so.

Not even counting Super Smash Bros. (where in Brawl, for example, he goes from being large to small as Meta-Ridley), in Metroid Prime 3 he goes from being large enough to have Samus just barely fit into his mouth:

...to being small enough to have Samus shove her arm cannon into it:

Explanation? Presumably speaking, I think it had something to do with Phazon. OR MAYBE SPACE PIRATE SCIENCE!

Phazon doesn't usually make things smaller. :p Maybe the explanation is just that Ridley's size doesn't matter?
Ridley is resized the same way as Bowser. He is shrunken or scaled up depending on which scenario he is going to fit. In the Meta Ridley fight in Prime 3 he needs to be huge to be able to cling his claws into the tunnel and also create this really epic feel to the battle. Plus, you need to be able to hit him when he's far away. With the Omega Ridley fight he is scaled down in order to make him seem on more even foot with Samus, since it's a classic duel between them, but he still needs a bit of size so that he's not too hard of a target to hit.

Even Retro doesn't take his size too seriously, because Ridley is always being sized in order for him to fit into the scenario as he needs to, so it creates a comfortable gameplay experience. So if the canon games can do that, of course a spin-off series like Smash Bros can do it too, Smash Bros already takes enough liberties as it is, shrinking Ridley wouldn't be breaking any new ground.

That was essentially my point, but mine was a shorter and snarkier version.

Yeah, but after as many years as I've been arguing for this, I like to repeat myself and make the argument longer and longer everytime :p Don't mind it.

None of you know what trolling is and it upsets more more than whatever awful logic we're arguing against at any given moment.
After seeing the rest of this page, I'm even more inclined to agree now than before.

"The Ridley fanbase gets trolled too much!!!1"

Get over yourselves...

I get home and so many ppl quoted me, well here we go:

I don't walk into this thread hoping to crush anyone's dreams or argue, as I said I think Ridley is a cool character I just haven't played any Metroid and I wonder how you guys think he will be in with this size issue. I know I'm not gonna make friends in this thread but I'm curious lol.

This Bowser stuff again haha, ok then:

Mario Galaxy: Bowser is much bigger in this game, it's explained that this is due to him obtaining the power of the stars.

Paper Mario: Bowser is much smaller in this game, he grows to this size because he uses the Star Rod.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii: After Mario defeats him he falls into the lava below, and Kamek uses magic to save him and make him HUGE.

Now, if I were just some troll I wouldn't bring this up, BUT:

Here is part one of that fight. Bowser is a bit bigger than Mario compared to Smash Bros. BUT NOT BY MUCH.

So...about those Bowser inconsistencies...yeah. The few times he's shown to be MUCH bigger than Mario, it's due to magic or a power up, and is not his actual size. I think the sports games might be the same as the first battle in New Super Mario Bros. Wii, a bit bigger.

The mock-up AngelGlory made for us is, imo, still the best one out there. I'm absolutely in love with it:

It seems weird to me, that was one of the pictures I was referring to. But since I'm not a Metroid fan I showed this to my friend who has played quite a few games, and he had this to say:

"Compared to Samus Ridley's too small, unless it's like a baby Ridley."

He continued to go on about how he wouldn't want to play as Ridley if that was his actual size, seeing as how Ridley is supposed to be huge and Samus should be able to fit in his mouth, her whole body, you know what I mean.

So, maybe I didn't play any Metroid, but I am a fan of Ridley, I loved fighting him as a boss and think he's awesome, hell I may even play a metroid game just because of him, I've been considering it, but I would agree that I don't want to use a baby version of him they shoved into the game to make him fit among the other fighters better.

BUT, what if Ridley was the first playable character to actually be huge? See now if they did that, and made it balanced, I would be happy with that! I imagine that would be tough to create and I dunno if Sakurai and co would go for it.

I like how everyone who makes an argument against Ridley is a troll.

Oh you Ridley fanboys haha, you've had it hard haven't you?

Honestly, I've tried to be very civil with you because I myself moonlight as a detractor due to my pessimism, but this just has to be said at this point:

Nope.

Here is the ending of Super Mario Galaxy.

Try starting the vid around 5:20.

There you see Bowser is the same size as the image above. But it can't be the power of the stars because at this point, Rosalina has them back.

They just made him naturally big for the Galaxy games.

Plus, I'd like to hear your explanation for Sunshine. He's downright huge, even after the shines are returned to Delfino Plaza.

Bowsers size in the adventure games has been the same from Mario Galaxy onward (unless he's using magic to make him bigger). It seems that before then his normal size hadn't been determined. At Bowser's normal size Mario reaches up to his knees in height and as is about as big as his tail, so that's still pretty big

you and your friend do realize that it's normal for a character to be downsized like that when they are playable, right? not even specifically smash. bowser and even king K rool get resized to about that small whenever they make a playable appearance.

the thing about ridley though is that he hasn't ever been playable. if he was playable all the time i bet you wouldn't even notice there was that big a difference.

I'm pretty sure Dark Samus is female, considering that Metroid Prime (the original form of Dark Samus) was referred to as being 'female' when you scanned it in MP1 IIRC. I could be wrong, but even then every final boss in the Metroid series has been female, with the exception of the Emperor Ing from Echoes.

If you hated it after the first 5 minutes of cleaning ****.... Then you must have played it...

Hmm....

Are you a magician?

Well, either way.

This is his size in it. No magic or Shine Power (or lack thereoff) changes his size.

Also, you didn't talk about the Galaxy point I made.

My "Nope" was in regards to the bolded part of your post, it doesn't show them near eachother, so are you just assuming? He looks much smaller.

I'll look up some Sunshine stuff, that game just seemed so ew I didn't bother haha, I hear it was fun though.

How about a better time?

Pause around 5:58.

You get a view from above. Mario's pretty tiny compared to Bowser. Especially in width.

Mario Galaxy 2 is the game where Bowser becomes big from the power stars, not the first one. You even see him turn back to normal size when he loses the power stars, and what's his normal size? The same as it was in the first Mario Galaxy.

In Dream Team Bowser said "he invented the 'be giant' trick", basically saying everytime he is big he is using some kind of power.
Is not the same, bowser is big because of magic, is just natural to see him changing his size from one second to other.

Ridley is just a disaster and there is no point to make it so big/small from one version to another, but he is always big.
