Have we seen screenshots of the lava rising?

Not that I know of.

But every Smash game has a Metroid stage with rising lava/acid, so I kind of expect it to happen here as well.

IIRC the lava/acid was at differing heights for each image, but I could be wrong. Haven't looked at them in a while.

And again, I don't see why Sakurai would wait this long to reveal Ridley as a stage hazard. I highly doubt Ridley is a hazard at this point.

You're right, I just checked the Miiverse daily photos thread.

We can see the source of the lava as well, pouring out of something. (a pipe or perhaps just a hole)
I wonder if it will be constantly pouring lava or will only pour occasionally, which may determine when the lava will rise.

Even if it isn't affected visually like that, I don't think theres any way to tell as of yet if the lava will rise in this particular stage or not.

Well, from what we have seen there seems to be a constant lava flow. It was like this in Other M too, but the lava never rose up, might be the same here. Of course there's no way to tell for sure, but from what we've seen there seems to be no hazard. But we're dealing with Sakurai, he's unpredictable, so there's never any way to say something for sure.

Its hard to believe that we are closing in on a month since the Pyrosphere was first shown. My what a dramatic month this has been.

I still feel on edge until there is a confirmed gimmick for the Pyrosphere. Every single Metroid stage has had one.

Probably jumping to conclusion here, but I feel that if Ridley isn't a stage hazard that he is going to be a playable character. I don't think there's another way Sakurai would be teasing fans so hard. Only other thing I can think of is that Ridley is getting three boss fights that are much more faithful to him as a character, but that's about it.

I think that you are mixing up two things. In case of Pokeballs, stage cameos, etc., this would be very delusional in most case assuming he thinks about it this way at all. The one exception that comes to mind would be the GHZ Sonic's friends.

But Assist Trophies seem to be intended the next big thing after characters and stages. So, presence of one says something like "Sorry guys, the other characters got in for various reasons. I noticed you like the character/franchise, and here, this is the proof. Don't scream I neglect you totally, kay?".

well yea but on the on the queen stage from Metroid prime 1 does the stage flip upside down in prime 1 so sakurai could make it so lava rises in the pyrosphere I mean I got suspicious when I saw the platforms added

I don't really care whether he'd be **** tier or not, I never choose characters based on tiers, in fact the majority of my Brawl mains are bottom tier. Only exception to this is not playing Meta Knight unless it's Project M or BBrawl since he's too OP otherwise.

I'd be very furious if they ****ed him up that badly animation-wise though. Good thing we know they'll do much better than that with Ridley if he's a character.

Well, seeing as how everyone seems to be balanced a bit better this time around, (Bowser is for sure, and what little we've seen of Link seems better) Ridley being not quite "as strong as most would expect" will probably happen if he's playable. Regardless, the weird thing in the video doesn't seem ****-tier - not even a little. He just looks a little ****ty.

Also, this. It only matters if he's an accurate representation of the character. I mean, I'd be happy if Ganondorf's moveset actually made sense, and I wouldn't care, then, if he stayed in ****-tier spot.

Tiers really only matter in one-on-one matches at high levels, playing like most of us play (with 3 other friends, on every stage and with items) it means nothing.

It was undeniably a hint towards Ridley, it could in no possibly way be towards anyone else, the description pretty much only fits Ridley and Mother Brain, but since it was mentioned with the Pyrosphere stage it's guaranteed that it's Ridley.

There's no reason to want it to be someone else though, since by now it should be obvious that it was refering to Other M, and not his status in Smash Bros in any way.

Seems like Nintendo has plans on having Retro develop both DKC and Metroid. Not too happy about the Metroid part, I want new heads to take on Metroid, and I'm definitely not gonna be excited if it's another FPA Metroid. Nevertheless, Metroid news do feel at home in this thread.

Certainly the Metroid franchise is one that, when you talk about really bringing the world to life, we feel that Metroid and the characters established are really important for Nintendo. So important that they were included, obviously, in Nintendo Land.

You know, such a franchise with such well-established characters sure could use more than a single playable representative in your all-stars game, aye?

I really liked the Prime games that I played(I didn't play all of them), so I'd be happy to see Retro take another swing at Metroid again. Be it in third person or first person perspective.

Regardless of canon, Phantoon would definitely make for a better and more interesting hazard.

I really don't see any "denial" in his post; he didn't say that Phantoon WOULD be the hazard or that there's a chance Phantoon COULD be the hazard.

As for canon, Silver the Hedgehog never ran through (or should I say floated through...) the Green Hill Zone in any Sonic game, and yet he's going through the loop with Tails and Knuckles (who both have at some point, not counting the obvious iOS and Android remake of the original Sonic game that has Tails and Knuckles as unlockable characters).

Given Phantoon's battles in both Other M and Super Metroid, Phantoon would certainly make for an interesting hazard, and a much better one that Ridley. (and not just because Ridley would be better off as a character)

Other M wasn't even so bad. Just a very ambitious, risky game that went wrong. I'd take a sequel with the same gameplay, provided they know where they went wrong.

Only applying to the case where Phantoon would be a hazard on the Pyrosphere, theres just no way it would appear as a hazard on that stage. The area it was fought in Other M is much more reasonable of course.
