Quick update on that embargo we were talking about. There was an embargo on a lot of smash bros footage, and according to ShadyPenguinn, the embargo lets up September 12th. Source is here, set to the time stamp: http://youtu.be/ynUE79wKkUM?t=5m23s

Shady also visited the NoA Building and got to go inside, so maybe something happened in there. So something was shown off, that much is clear. There wouldn't be an embargo on almost everything smash bros at PAX if something wasn't up. Not to mention that they said they have the near final build of the game at PAX. Was it Ridley? Was it not? 13 more days until that embargo lets up and the floodgates open.

I realize this isn't directly Ridley related, but I wanted to keep you all updated on this (I'm not sure if anyone has mentioned this news yet). Ridley very well could have been shown off there. Whether he was playable (hopefully) or not is still unknown.

The thing about the Ash Paulsen (GameXplain) tweet is this

First of all, I don't think it's enough to say "He's in", but let me "overanalyze" for a second

For one, we know he didn't have to respond to the tweet. "Oh but he wanted to stop the questions early!" Sure, but barely any of the GX audience thinks he's playable anyway.

Now here's where stuff gets interesting. Ash responding to the tweet saying "either way" let's us know that potentially Ridley was talked about at the event.

But what do we know about the event?

They're seeing the final 3DS build. Not Wii U build.

Now what version is Pyrosphere on? Wii U. Which one where they playing? 3DS. Where is Ridley supposedly a boss on? Pyrosphere... on Wii U.... which they didn't see.

If they talked about Ridley, it would be about him on 3DS, where he wouldn't be a boss anyway.

Ridley es Confirmado?
i am sorry but i was reading that and i am a little bit confused about what he said and to what he respondet can you please tell that again in short :/ im sorry but im not soooo perfect i english so i fail sometimes

I'm still very hopeful for a pre-release trailer,
It makes too much sense if he's playable to be shown off before release.

Question: How many of us are going to buy the game regardless of Ridely being playable or not? I know I'm buying it if not only just for :4megaman:.
Even if their is no Ridley, K.Rool or Mewtwo, I'm going to buy it (even if I would be a bit disappointed) because it still look like a awesome game. However, I doubt that at least one of the big three wont make it.

Ash from GameXplain responded to a tweet asking if they saw Ridley behind the doors. Ash said "I can't say either way". They played the 3DS version, which is not where Ridley was teased as a boss. So people think the GameXplain crew saw Ridley as a playable character. It sounds like they did see him. Does that help?

If it's a blanket ban on smash then I'm pretty sure they wouldn't be able to speak about anything regardless. Not everything has to mean something about Ridley.

I know, I'm just saying the way he phrased it sounded like they saw something. Not necessarily Ridley.

For what seemed like an eternity, we put our faith into Sakurai, hoping for a single answer. For a year, there was nothing, we only have two weeks to wait. Let's be patient for our final days of spectulation.

Whether or not Ridley gets in the game, it was an honor to spectulate with you people. Let's all hope for a happy confirmation of Ridley, either before the game releases, or after.

Of course I'm buying the games, if the characters I want is included that's just a bonus. Stickers, trophies, the fun items and fantastic stages is worth more to me than a character.

man we're a bunch of weirdos aren't we
I had to read through that entire freak out of everyone goin nutz

also I really have to wonder what the point of this embargo is, I mean really what is gained? Even if they showed off a trailer of Ridley K. Rool and Mewtwo or just a trailer of luigi's nose it doesn't make much sense, I guess it gets people asking questions, but then it better be worth it, considering if they aren't planning on releasing the info until launch than the only thing this accomplishes is increasing the chances one of those reporters is going to go onto 4chan and leak the entire thing. The game comes out really soon, so why hold out on something like this?

I just find the idea weird, and it'd be a shame if they were building up Ridley only to have him leaked

Ridley alone isn't going to make this game good or bad, he can make the roster a tad better but even then he'd still only be one out of 50+ characters. One character can never determine the quality of a game of Smash Bros' scale, simple as that.

So duh, of course I'm going to buy the game even if Ridley isn't in, by far the majority of my matches will be completely unaffected by it, and I'll still have all my previous mains anyways. It'd still be a shame I still won't have my favorite Nintendo character as a playable character, not to mention lacking a newcomer that really makes me hyped, but I've enjoyed all past installments without him so I'll manage.

I just have a quick question, if/when we get Ridley, what are you guys going to do then? I mean I want Ridley as a character just as much as some of you guys, but where will we all go after that? I probably would support Dark Samus for the next game, but it just seems like that after we get an official confirmation there really isn't much else left.

I'm just asking because I want other people's opinions, so please tell me.

Well once Ridley is announced, the Rildey supporters will probably get hype and play smash bros. Basically.

Im obviously getting the game regardless, but being a WiiU user, IF Ridley turns out to be a boss, Im going to have a bad time being painfully reminded of what could have been whenever Pyrosphere is picked. So Im just sitting here, hoping for the best.

I'll be done with Smash speculation forever then, I'll have every character I've actively wanted to be in this franchise, and man what a relief it'd be. Ridley was the only character that made me join Smash 4 speculation as he was the only one I didn't get in Brawl.

No doubt Pyrosphere is going off the random stage switch immediately. I don't even like hazard stages anyways, so it'd also be a shame to lose such a good neutral stage, like two turds thrown in your face at once.

Hmmm...
Final piece of evidence?
Ridley sure looks small compared to Metal Face.
Seriously though, Ridley has been shrunk down, and if it isn't to PC size, then it's close to it. Why?

No, I implied that the shadow looked similar to Ridley's. More trolling.
The situation is too different. Metroid has had reps since smash 64. This is Shulk's premier appearance. No one expects a second Shulk rep. Ridley is highly requested. Shadowplay means nothing.

I mean, Kestrel to Carnelian, man.

Regarding the Ridley All-Star thing...

If he is Roidley (and he is), then he's technically a clone of Ridley. A clone who didn't show up until 2009 or 10, if I remember correctly.
Well, no. As a clone, Roidley is suppose to look like Ridley. He just got a redesign like Samus. If you remember Samus flashed back to the events of Super Metroid in Other M. In that flash back, her design was her Other M design, much like in All Star, even though that design debuted in 2010. Roidley is more a redesign, not so much a different Ridley.

My apologies, but Metal Face's shadow looks different, I only know about him because of Chuggaa, and I noticed the shadow was his, they don't match up
As someone who has played Xenoblade Chronicles from start to finish (and loved every minute of it), I can say that the shadow does match Metal Face.

I know, but the overusage of Shadowplay makes it seem plausible that Sakurai just wants the american audience to get intrigued. Ridley is in a situation like Mewtwo- One POTD could ruin the whole thing. Sakurai is stalling with his reveals and I dun like it.

My favourite thread is back!! Hurray!! I thought it was permanent, so I tried going other places and man... you think detractors in here are cold? It's a scary world out there!

I really like the idea of this new flying mechanic, whether true or false. Gliding always felt gimmicky to me in Brawl, just because it was so slow to activate (unless you were Metaknight) and was so telegraphed afterwards. But Peach's ability to hover, for example, is seriously a game changer. Is that sorta thing what we'll see more of? If Ridley had, say, aerial grabs, being able to hover would really allow him to mix up his game. He'd become the literal opposite of Little Mac. Big Mac?

One PotD that we've been crossing our fingers doesn't happen for over a year now. We've been lucky in the respect that it hasn't come yet, but Sakurai may still be holding a bullet with Ridley's name on it. But there are only 10 PotD's left that could kill Ridley before the final guillotine strike, so at least we have a real final countdown for once.

I don't really feel like Mewtwo is in danger of getting a different role in this game. I mean, boss nor assist trophy seem really fitting to me. Contrast with Ridley, who might have actually been teased as a boss and not as a playable character. Eh, I don't know man. Mewtwo is a case of being in, or not being in. Ridley is in, but there is a good chance we will be disappointed when we discover he's only available on Pyrosphere.

Yeah, kind of I guess. Well, Ridley would probably have good to strong power on both ground and in the air, but on the ground he'd be slower and more predictable. His speed in the air would be pretty good on the flip-side, and while not as ridiculous as Lil' Mac's speed he would be able to stay in the air for a very long time compared to other fighters.

You guys are acting like there is any doubt that it is Metal Face at the end of Shulk's trailer... Metal face speaks. In both japanese and english trailers it's the same voice actor from XC.

Did you guys not watch with audio? :joyful:

I don't really understand the connection between the Metal Face shadow play and what's going on with Ridley. Given Metal Face talks with the original voice actor of Metal Face in both regions I'm pretty sure it just suppose to be a 'Hey guys he's here too' to those have played XBC. I don't really see how that would help or hurt Ridley in anyway

I don't really understand why Metal Face's shadow is brought up here. I mean, Metal Face appeared in a CGI trailer: his in-game shadow could be half the size of that, or twice the size of that, or something else. It isn't really comparable to Ridley's shadow (plus the teasing is way different, with Metal Face actually having a voice which can be directed to him immediately, while Ridley appeared with no name whatsoever), so I don't think it helps or hurts Ridley's chances, it's the same as ever.

It hurts our theory of "Sakurai did not tease nonplayable characters", and here we have a tease for what is most likely a boss... Thats all there is to it. Well since the first PotD after the reveal is on monday, we might get the "FYI Metal Face is a boss" thing, which would help ridley as Ridleys role STILL wasn't clarified...after over a YEAR.

Zebesian Roulette?

I think if Sakurai was going to debunk Ridley, he'd have done so already. As my brother is fond of pointing out, he's a trickster god, but he's never cruel for its own sake. He debunked our good friends Waluigi, Ashley, Wonder Red and Rayman, to name a few examples, once the opportunities arose to do just that. It's tough, but at least you get it out of your system clean and early and move on. I dare say he's not going to just tease Ridley only for there to be crushing disappointment in the end, and I dare say he's not going to risk the almighty public backlash that would come from such a dirty trick.

The argument that he doesn't know or doesn't care is redundant. He knows full well about the respective characters' popularity and he's put a lot of time and effort into this game to give it a stellar and memorable roster. He'd be shooting himself in the foot if he was just screwing over the fans for the sake of some cheap chortles. He gains absolutely nothing by doing it and only incurs the ire of many, many fans that would otherwise be willing and able to buy the game at launch.

On the contrary, he has the perfect silver bullet to attract attention to the game here: the reaction if Ridley is revealed is going to be cataclysmic levels of hype, to say the very, very least. That sort of fan reaction is going to get the game known for all of the right reasons and it will only help re-affirm Smash as a game that fans love and will continue to play in the future.

Sakurai is planning something. He's been planning it for well over a year now. Nothing is coincidental when it comes to the tricks and pleasures of Smash. Something big - very, very big - is coming and I can only imagine it's going to be good.

EDIT: And bear in mind that this is all coming from the mouth of a skeptic who, up to last night, couldn't care either way as to Ridley's ultimate fate.

Yeah sure.

Let's take an in game shadow that has been proven to be as big as the tallest smashers and compare it to a foreboding figure that is not only clearly bigger and flat out totally metal face, but also appeared in a CGI trailer.
