Important The Ridley for SSB4 Thread - End of an Era

Something tells me Pyrosphere is an unlockable stage and that Samurai wants to keep Ridley a secret because of that, because he's a stage boss and wants us to find out ourselves.

Aaaand now I'm bummed.

We've only been made aware of one Metroid stage so far for Both Smash games, the Pyrosphere for Wii U, and it out of all possible stages is going to be one of the unlockables?

I'm pretty sure they already stated they would be going for big reveal trailers, and not keeping characters secret as they don't want the surprise ruined. For that reason I'd be stunned if there were any secret characters at all, let alone a newcomer. There will surely be characters to be unlocked, but I think they'll advertise the whole roster at least by the day of the Japanese release.

So you think they're going to reveal all 12+ characters in the next month then? That's even crazier, imo. I'm betting on at least 1 or 2 secret newcomers, similar to G&W and ROB of melee and brawl, characters no one expected but Sakurai thought would make good additions. While I don't see Ridley on that list, I do think it will happen.

Heyy, about that one interview in which Sakurai discussed the impossibilities of Ridley and Villager:

He wouldn't happen to have discussed any other characters, would he?

It was at a presentation at some kind of convention in 2008 where he said that Villager and Nintendog were impossible, Ridley was in a Nintendo Power interview iirc.

However, I don't think Ridley will be that boss hazard. There's probably going to be some bait-and-switch trick on us and we'll get Rhedogian instead.

I might need to go and find where I saw it, but I'm sure the implication was that the intro trailers were a replacement for any in the game, with the idea being that anything kept "secret" would be spoiled before release, and they'd prefer to release it in that manner. Maybe they are keeping some secret characters though.

It will be interesting, but secret characters or not, give it 48 hours after the Japanese release (or the moment the media embargo is over) and all the characters will be revealed.

It was quite obvious he had quite a bit of fun with the Meta Knight thing, so no doubt he's had a fair bit of fun with this too. I might still have expressed myself wrong though, as I do believe that the primary reason Ridley is being held back because he's one of the main driving forces behind Smash speculation, so obviously by building up even more controversy around him they're making him an even bigger subject. Hopefully it won't amount to a train wreck.

So if Ridley gets to be too big a subject, will that make him too big for Smash Bros?

I don't see the deal with not making Ridley fast and strong.

He can have those features in his air game but be awkward and frail on the ground.

I agree. Either Rhedogian or the other Pyrosphere boss (totally forgot what it's called) since they are also present in Pyrosphere. If Sakurai named it Geothermal Power Plant, it would be more likely that Ridley is a boss hazard since that's the specific room that he is fought however with the teasing and general name of Pyrosphere, it can be assumed that other Pyrosphere enemies may be boss hazards as well.

However I would rather it be neutral stage. Lava hazards are kinda boring now.

The stage is literally Pyrosphere that Samus fights Roidley in. If there's a stage hazard, Ridley isn't just obvious, but pretty much the only logical one. I don't think they'd leave people speculating like this for a stage hazard, but if it's a boss hazard in that level it's almost certainly Ridley or a type of Ridley.

You never know, they may have made two Ridleys, in a reference to the battle in Other M in Pyrosphere being against a clone, not the actual Ridley...

...oh boy wouldn't that be fun. The trailer starts, some characters is in Pyrosphere, battling Samus, only for Roidley to show up. People are disappointed, is that really the Ridley they chose? One of the characters is a newcomer, the splash screen comes up for them, but not Roidley...

Panic starts to set in the audience, they show a short battle, the voice over comes on and directly confirms that Ridley is the stage hazard here, references Wily Castle as another example, the internet is literally in tears at this point.

When suddenly, from the edge of the screen, who's this? A purple blur comes in, a splash screen appears: "Ridley, bigs himself up!"

It happens, Ridley is playable, and he curb stomps Roidley, Samus, and that other newcomer, probably Shulk, but who cares, Ridley!

I mean, it could be another Pyrosphere enemy there too, but I doubt they'd be bothered. They'd have gone for Pyrosphere for Ridley.

Mewtwo takes 20 hours of VS Play to unlock, and he also blocks Mr. Game & Watch since you need all other characters to unlock him.

Thought Mew2 was unlocked by 7 hours. Huh, shows how much I know and care about Melee. This does mean that if there is no roster leak, it will take 2-3 days if anyone is unlocked in that fashion

I really have no idea whether or not the Pyrosphere is a hazard-less stage, or if there's some other kind of boss on it.

I just think Ridley isn't a boss on it. That's what matters most, isn't it?

For me it took 2-3 days considering I google searched the unlock conditions and hauled booty to get all the characters ASAP.

It depends if there's such an unlock condition again at all, all characters in Brawl were fairly easy to unlock even outside of SSE, just like with the gameplay I foresee they're going to hit some point in the middle with unlock conditions.

I don't think it matters much though, I'm very certain we'll know about Ridley before release.

Let me get this straight.
-Samus and Samus both represent the series at their fullest. The series is Samus.
-Ridley, recurring boss and main antagonist, is completely superfluous.
-But if they decide to sneak in a Metroid rep anyway, it should be Rundas, whose only memorable trait was that he had very nice battle music.

I'm confident that we're getting a remix. Remember, there are two versions of Ballad of the Goddess in SSB4, one that's the original (which played during the Trophy Quizzes) and the other that's a remix for this game, which contains Ghirahim's theme and played on the Skyloft stage in the demo.

We'll most likely get to hear the remixed theme in Ridley's trailer.

Ok. Let me rephrase it.
Rundas has two defining traits. He was one of the very few alien looking beings that didn't immediately reach for Samus' throat and instead did it wrong and saved her twice. And he has cool music.
Gandrayda or whatever is defined by the fact that she is a girl, looks really weird and also has cool music.
Ghor is defined by the fact that he doesn't have cool music.
Rundas would have the most chance to be even considered, and Rundas does not represent Metroid as well as Ridley.
