Regarding anniversaries or what? Little Mac had a 30 year anniversary, so duh. I personally think C. Falcon's reveal was a coincidence, trailers are traditionally sketched and storyboarded way before they know when the trailer will air, so if there was a FE anniversary on that date I suspect it was most likely because of that, and not a random F-Zero entry's anniversary.

And again, we're talking about the anniversary of a Pic of the Day here, it's nowhere near as monumental as a game's release.

I honestly don't know what to think about my two most wanted, King K. Rool and Ridley. We have the Kremlings as evidence for K. Rool and the first two posts of this thread for Ridley, but I still have these mixed feelings of optimism and dread about them.

Not really racism, Ridley fans are a popular subject of derision, since a lot of people write him off as being too big, or looking too silly for smash, or that he's a boss, or that he's not unique or interesting

The Ridley is too big argument is dead and buried, he can be downsized at little to no work by the developers, Smash is not a serious game with any kind of continuity so the fact Ridley was a boss in the last game matters oh so little.

And I don't know about you, but I think a huge fighter with a long powerful tail is something we haven't gotten in smash, much less one with an aerial focus.

Find it silly & unnecessary to nitpick something as trivial as the functionality of boss doors/statues in such an old game (only posted the image to correct someone who said that Ridley never had a statue), not that we even know who personally delivered the baby Metroid to Tourian, or if it just floated off there somehow after Ridley took it down to Zebes.

Have it your way. The Shulk vs Isaac debates is the last thing on this green earth I'd ever get into.

Because Kraid has been way overdone in being compared to Ridley like that.

I might still have expressed myself wrong though, as I do believe that the primary reason Ridley is being held back because he's one of the main driving forces behind Smash speculation, so obviously by building up even more controversy around him they're making him an even bigger subject. Hopefully it won't amount to a train wreck.

I think he's doing this to keep us watching. He's using the hype around Ridley to keep our attention, so we'll watch everything looking for that definitive evidence that ridley is playable.

Like I just said, I don't think that's the primary reason he is being held back, but I'm sure he's having fun with it along the way because of who he is. @ PeterJude perfectly summed up why I think he's being kept behind locked doors.

Conspiracy theorist here, why would one of the first stages he showed us period be unlockable? The whole reason Pyrosphere is still shrouded in such mystery is to create interest over if Ridley is a stage boss like Yellow Devil, or is a full fledged playable character.

Come to think of it, the Stages 1 page of the Website only had the ones on the Demo for preview, and it wasn't even explained in detail (Heck, they never even mentioned Nabbit in MKU)...
Why not show the Finished stages?
Y'know, like Boxing Ring, which was revealed in Stages 1, Battlefield, which was in Stages 1,
PYROSPHERE, THAT WASN'T IN STAGES 1.

I used to doubt that Ridley could be playable because of his size, but then again, this is Sakurai and he can, somehow, make it work. I wonder if the fans will like his design or not. Either way, I'm convinced that if Ridley is playable, this will make Smash Bros. 4 either the greatest game/most sold game of all time in Nintendo history, or something else. Not sure what though. I can see so many leaving Melee just to play as Ridley...and if they don't like the mechanics, they'll make another Project M for it. That's my thoughts there.

I'm pretty sure Sakurai explicitly stated that they wouldn't be kept secret in such a manner as it would be "ruined" before we got there. That is, there aren't going to be secret newcomers, they aren't going to be things hidden in such a manner as it's just going to be posted on the internet before we get a chance to play anyhow.

They aren't stupid, they wouldn't genuinely think a stage hazard Ridley would be hype worthy enough to keep this late for a reveal, and they wouldn't be letting this go on (do you really think they are unaware of the Ridley speculation?) when they have also pretty much explicitly stated they don't want false hype to build up.

Kirby is less than a foot tall, Bowser goes from Godzilla to Mario size at will. Outright canonical size is irrelevant, particularly with a character like Ridley who has gone, like Bowser, from Samus sized to Godzilla sized at a whim.

I actually am curious how long it will take the full roster to leak, assuming it's not dumped for us before the game comes out. Sakurai's been doing a damn good job keeping us guessing so far. As someone who will be downloading the game the second it becomes available on the eshop, and probably playing it non-stop that entire weekend, it's an exciting prospect that I may be one of the first people to discover something about the game. Which is why if we still know nothing at that point first thing I'm doing is completing classic mode with both samus and ZSS, and then every other mode with them xD.

I'm pretty sure they already stated they would be going for big reveal trailers, and not keeping characters secret as they don't want the surprise ruined. For that reason I'd be stunned if there were any secret characters at all, let alone a newcomer. There will surely be characters to be unlocked, but I think they'll advertise the whole roster at least by the day of the Japanese release.
