I just randomly watched the commercial for Other M. In the very beginning, Ridley is shown advancing on a child version of Samus. From the way I see it, Ridley is large compared to the child (obviously), but compare that to what a full adult sized Samus Aran might look like, and you have a decent comparison to Mario and Bowser here.

Other M is a good throwback to the old school 2-D style games, while it is on the short side the gameplay was pretty fun. While the story elements certainly weren't bad by any means, the dialogue is probably what turned off most people.

I also thought Fusion was a lot harder than a lot of other Metroid games solely because of the boss before the final boss...

Ridley floating above the ground as his walking of sorts=??? That's actually not a turrible idea. I kinda like it, since it is fresh, original, and especially unique!

Well the point still stands, Ridley's inclusion is not an issue of size, character or "fitting in well", as this video proves - he'd simply need some fluid animations and a solid moveset to work in Smash, which I have no doubt the team can deliver.

Especially considering Game Arts isn't developing another smash game again (hopefully ever).

We got the Pre-Brawl Ridley thread locked at least like 4 times! Ah... that thread was poorly run. Let's not put that mods through that again!

To get the ball rolling again, I remember briefly reading recently that Brawl was supposed to have custom victory themes for every character, but ended up only giving one to Meta Knight. I think it'd be cool if this idea returned for Smash 4.

Obviously an excerpt from Ridley's theme comes to mind as his victory jingle, but I'd prefer some variation of the Space Pirates theme.

Only those with top marks in Smash Brosing, Metroiding, and being well versed in causing cataclysmic proportions of butthurt to Ridley fans are considered for entry. "Proportions" being a double entendre.
Prepare a transcript of your history on Ridley for Smash threads and our professors will judge your merits. Only the best get to walk these halls.

What's this? An example of a character's size being altered for the sake of what the situation calls for, which in this case is the cinematography?


Also this reminds me how it's weird that one thing Other M gets a lot of flack for is the scene where Samus is shown as a child crying before Ridley. I think that was one thing the game got right, just the whole rest of the game made it look awful, mostly due to the terrible writing. Could have definitely used more context, a flashback or something, since you could play the rest of the series and the relevance of that scene would still be lost. Of course it doesn't help that they finally took the opportunity to shed light on the history of the relationship between Samus and Ridley so late in the series.

Not to say the scene itself was perfect, but something like it was necessary.

Honestly, I think I'm more confident in K.Rool's inclusion than Ridley's.

I'm not actually that confident about Ridley... I just think the "arguments" against are, for the most part, idiotic. So much of it is just about opinions, when, in the end, it's pretty dang obvious that if Sakurai wants to make him a character, the team will be able to do it successfully in a way that feels just fine. A variation of the Space Pirate's theme would be a nice touch, particularly since Ridley could represent the villain half of Metroid very well. Other then that, of course the obligatory Ridley theme is the other choice though I'm curious how they'd make it into one considering how his theme's always intense and gets your blood pumping rather then proclaiming victory.

I feel like if Sakurai wanted Ridley in Smash, he would have been in it already. ZSS being in before Ridley, as well as Ridley being a boss in SSE, makes it seem as though Sakurai doesn't care much for the dragon thing.

Truth be told, I don't really care if he's in or not, as I'm not a huge fan of Metroid. Not that I don't like the franchise, I just don't have much connection to it.

Well, the player playing as Ridley should also be able to feel some sort of victory notion, aye? That jingle is so depressing, while it fits great for a Game Over screen it wouldn't feel all that satisfying when winning.

I think Ridley's primary theme would work well at that, because it'd simply make you feel badass.

Didn't like, the starfox characters also have custom victory stuff? I swear I remember some interaction between falco/fox/wolf.

Yeah, that would be nice, seeing that it was theorized that they were going to do that with Brawl.
Not sure what Ridley's victory theme would be a remix of, but it would be in the style of the Metroid Prime soundtrack, and scary sounding.

What would be funny is if there was a second SSB4 trailer and this happened:
Mewtwo and Little Mac make their debuts somewhere around the trailer's middle on a new Pokemon themed stage.
Little Birdie bursts through a hole in the wall, comically trips on the ground, and hisses at everyone.

Mewtwo fires some kind of ray at Little Mac, but it misses and instead hits Birdie. Birdie rapidly "evolves" to his stage 2 form: Ridley!

This question was asked somewhere in the social or roster thread a few weeks ago, which inspired me: If Ridley appeared in SSB4, how would he make his debut?
