Is there anyone else besides Ridley who they could announce as a playable newcomer at this point?
Well, there is the possibility that we could get a Rhythm Heaven character. The franchise has already been hinted at with the Sneaky Spirit enemy. So there's some competition right there.

Isaac, from Golden Sun. Elevated Assist Trophy like Little Mac. It would be easy to give him a unique play style, and he is the most iconic character from the GBA.
Question:
We know Sakurai doesn't like things getting leaked online, he prefers to make the reveals himself, either through announcements, or the games.
So, do you think we might get trailers for unannounced newcomers once the game launches in Japan? Give a day or two for players to find them, then drop them into the website with full hype? I recall the dojo doing something similar, but I'm not positive.
Eh a zelda newcomer is cool but will likely just get a trailer for gananodorf, shulk I'll not comment on,yeah dixie kong is probally unlockable since she was forbidden 7,I say just look at the ones who get a new character each game that haven't yet
It is. Releasing the version which will vastly outsells the other first doesn't seem very smart to me, but Nintendo certainly have their reasons for doing that.
I personally think the most likely outcome for Ridley is as a boss/stage hazard for the Pyrosphere, but its very fishy about why Sakurai has held off on outright confirming Ridley as such.
My personal theory is that Sakurai is going to have a "boss mode" exclusive to the Wii U version, in which you use the Wii U game pad to "play" as bosses on the stages they appear on (ie. Yellow Devil is only "playable for Dr. Wily's Castle, Ridley is only "playable" on Pyrosphere", etc.). The Wii U game pad is used to tap various actions or attacks you want to perform as the boss, not really being able to control the direction for the boss.
Sakurai has held off on showing Ridley because he needs an "all-star" to show off this mode in video form.

That is possible, but it doesn't really explain why they have avoided showing Ridley at all. Even if he is technically playable through a boss mode, that doesn't give them much of a reason to hide Ridley. If he's a boss, then they should just show him as a boss and keep this "boss mode" feature a secret.

We're not getting some playable boss mode gimmick, because we know that there aren't going to be any special features on the game pad aside from the amiibo.
Also, why bother implementing it when they could have used the time and resources to make him a playable character? It seems like a huge middle finger to the fanbase.

I disagree. There'd be no reason to hide Ridley as a shadow at that point in the direct. They could have showed him as a boss, and later explained that bosses would be playable. Sakurai has also stated that they aren't using the gamepad for any special gimmick modes because of how many different controller options there are. So either they're being coy because Ridley is playable or Sakurai is out of touch and thinks people will be hyped by a Ridley boss.
Edit: Don't get me wrong, I'm not saying Ridley is for sure playable. I just don't think playable boss mode is a thing. People would argue with who gets to play as the boss, the people controlling the boss would sit around waiting for the boss to respawn, and they could have just used the resources to make Ridley playable as someone already said. Plus with how tiny Ridley is from the shadow analysis and that lava doesn't show up in the FD Pyrosphere, I think Ridley being playable is a real possibility. It just depends on what Sakurai is toying with us over. Just hope it's for what most of us want and not something we've seen already, in most every Metroid game, twice in Brawl, and once in DoA.

No lol we are not getting a Playable boss mode, Sakurai already said no gimmicks. People don't seem to realize how boring it would be to play as a boss.
But, if this "boss mode" is a thing, they don't need to hide Ridley for it. Just look at how the Yellow Devil was shown to us; initially, we didn't know that there would be boss characters that could appear on stages, but they showed us the Yellow Devil long before the boss character feature was revealed. They didn't keep they Yellow Devil hidden until they announced boss hazards. Basically, the possible existence of a "boss mode" does not explain why Ridley has not been shown to us.

I'm getting a Wii u a few months before ssb4 so I can get ready to go pro (I also have brawl and melee) but does anyone wonder what ridleys moveset would be?
"Pic of the Day: Here we have our little friend interacting with Midna from The Legend of Zelda, Twilight Princess, added as our newest addition to the assist trophy library. Who is this little guy anyway??"
Looks like he ate at least half of the skin whatever there was on her skull...i can't wait for other images, but i have a question - will ALL of the assist trophies be included? If yes...then what will happen to Mother Brain and Dark Samus? Latter one lacks anything he could eat and is just unhealthy food.
Welp. I promised to upload my version of the Midna slaughter. Here it is. Avert your eyes. It's very very gruesome. Very. Really it is. If there is something you shouldn't be worrying about it's the absolute gore that stains my piece of art. Really. not
I really hate how detractors tend to be more insulting and mean to Ridley fans than Ridley fans are to detractors.
I've only seen one supporter get aggressive to someone when they said he's too big to be playable. Every other supporter I've seen in arguments have remained calm and presented their evidence on why they think Ridley will be playable and they usually get attacked for it.
I've seen countless anti-Ridley people get way more mean and downright dirty with their insults.
I hate how they paint all Ridley fans as insane delusional idiots. That is why I really hope that he is a character because it would be tremendously funny to see them get shut up. It would be sweet delicious justice.
But then, when insane delusional idiots will be right, who will be laughing his as- err, head off?! WHO?! We?! YES! WE WERE SO INSANE WE PREPARED FOR SOMETHING SO UNLIKELY! That is now 2nd reason why i want Ridley to be playable, 1st one is that i like how he looks like and his abilities, 3rd one is because he deserves to be playable.

Yellow Devil can't do much except for move>shoot lasers>move>shoot lasers and so until he will disappear or die. And moving will most likely be restricted to be balanced. Either way, he will be not worth even including. And Sakurai said there will be no gamepad gimmicks. Except for those small figures things. Also, there is bosses exclusive for 3DS and i doubt there is a lot of bosses on WiiU. Such game mode would ruin bosses' animations since they will just suddenly go back to 1st frame of one of the attack animations and will just make them overpowered, especially those who are fast or have speciffic weak spots, like Yellow Devil, since they will just keep attacking, without really moving around while not attacking. Unless player will be unable to imput any commands for some time after using any of attacks, but this is so dull and boring that it is just a waste of time. So, that theory is...don't know which word i should use...

You can play as Master Hand and Giga bowser in Melee and it gets boring after a minute. Granted, its entire purpose was for debugging, but that is what it would be pretty much. It will just make you want to play as an actual character.

And it will make you, if that will become a separate game mode, to think about why the f*** did they even bothered doing something like that. In case of overpowered-playable-characters-as-bosses kind of bosses, its more-or-less ok, but gets a little bit boring, but in case of bosses bosses, then it will get REALLY boring mostly because you can't do much and there is no combos possibility too, making playing as them incredibly dull. And unfair to other players. Making normal playable characters is at least worth doing, but not THIS.
