That game is still nothing compared to failure of Shadow the Hedgehog, Sonic Genesis and Sonic '06.
That's the way you have to look at it, lol. Other M could have been way, way worse. It's, at the very least, playable; and for what it is, it's not that bad. It's not a good /Metroid/ game, persay, but it's a pretty decent game nonetheless.

probably thats where smash fans know ridley the best if they arnt familiar to the metroid series
Ive known the franchise for a long time, and Brawley (Bradley?) is my favorite 3D rendition of him. Because the alternative looks like a senior purple pelican that took too many steroid :p
Now, the Meta Ridleys are a different story for me.

Like if it would be a generic FPS shooter on rails with stupid or frustratingly difficult enemies, atrocious graphics and sounds, Samus would wear something that even DoA would not do and would call it too...um...you know...and would be shocked after seeing it, Ridley would NOT appear, generic monsters would be used, it would have so many glitches it crashes a lot, Anthony would carry a whip, it would last 100+ hours with very boring enviroments and gameplay, etc? Yeah...it could have been worse...

Pelicans have long and straight or even curved downward beaks. And they don`t look like a dragon at all of course. Roidley looks more like a pterosaur. Maybe THAT is what they were going for...
Proof that pelican`s beak looks nothing like Roidley`s:

You can see every bone on Roidley too. Every rib. You can`t see his leg bones unfortunately...at least not all of them. Being anorexic dragon is Ridley`s trait. Brawl model is still not perfect - it has weird eyes and massive upper jaw.

Other M has pretty high review scores for something that is so hated - it is above 50%. And there is something that you may count as nonsense, but it (according to the wiki) happened:
"Other M was the third best-selling video game in Japan during its week of release with 45,398 copies sold, ranking it behind Wii Party and Monster Hunter Diary: Poka Poka Airu Village.[89] It sold an additional 11,239 copies the following week.[90] It was also the ninth best-selling game in North America during September 2010,[91] selling 173,000 units."
Still, as a Metroid game, it is kinda disappointing. At least Ridley boss battle is epic. Would be better if there would be no Sense Move. But then it would be harder than that level before Astaroth battle in original Ghost 'N Goblins.
Sonic 06 also sold millions of copies ;). Good selling numbers dont always translate to good reception, especially considering not many Nintendo games drop their price too much in order to be able to sell, Other M can be bought brand new for 5 dollars.

The hate comes outside of the reviewers because, for the most part, they dont look too deep into games like fans do. The have one or two weeks to play it once or twice, and they promptly forget about the game and move on to the next one.

The first picture is practically Ridleys beak, smaller upper bone, larger underbite . That last one is not a pelican.

But why? There already was internet and at least someone should have warned everyone else that the game is truly horrible...

Still, i don`t understand why there is so many peoples who think it is horrible. Throw out the plot and it is at least not bad. Don`t think about it as an Metroid game and it is at least good.

I kinda agree with that.
Last one is Shoebill and it is very close to pelicans (a recent DNA study suggests they are part of the Pelecaniformes). This kind of beak is exclusive to him...but it still counts. Looks kinda like Ridley`s beak. More than actual pelican`s.

My opinion on Ridley? People have talked about him so hard for so long, and all but provided entire movesets for him. If I were Nintendo, I'd take it just because the character has pretty much been made for us by the fans :lick:

I had another Ridley confirmation dream. It was a wierd one. It was a villain trailer, but instead of k rool and mewtwo alongside Ridley, it was Sephiroth and Smee from Peter Pan.

Well, the latter one is a pirate at least...and the other one is a mom`s boy...or how was is called...anyway, cardboard box personality and attack that makes no sense (it doesn`t even kills)...hm...Daisy and Ridley confirmed?..Wait...Daisy is not a villain...and i will kill myself and every toobigot if she will be confirmed...
Is there anyone who has personality beyond a cardboard box in Mario series except for Rosalina, Bowser and that guy from Paper Mario?

Actually, it did worse then the original Metroid, Prime, Super, Fusion, and Hunters over there, and it barely outsold Prime 3 as well. Overall, the Japanese were as mixed on it as we were, it wasn't a game that really appealed to either audience.
Heh, not sure where you get that from, but Japan hasn't been very interested in any Metroid game since Super Metroid, and Other M didn't have a very good reception down there either. I wouldn't say the game has any eye-candy material either, it's not like there are any suggestive shots of Samus, and she's proportionate to how she has always looked, heck it doesn't even have any unlockable pictures of Samus stripped down like Fusion or Zero Mission.

And yeah, they don't care about Ridley, but that's nothing to loathe them for. They'll know who he is for sure, he's been in every Smash installment after all and had up to two boss battles last time, but there's nothing wrong with them not having interest in him, with how little popularity Metroid has in Japan it's only natural. Rest assured it won't be a Little Mac situation, and they might warm up to him when they see him in action.
Thanks for clearing my doubts.....I don't know were I heard that it had selled welll in JP...but oh well, one thing that is for sure, is that they liked the Zero Suit...

This image was posted by a japanese metroid fan that uses 3D models from Prime....and even if I don't know what does the rest say, the english part is enough.

And,,,,here's Ridley....

Sonic had something Metroid didn't. Mass appeal. The same reason Transformers Revenge of The Fallen is one of the highest grossing movies in the latest decade, or why Biebber has such massive following.
Sakamoto tried to make the game more appealing to the casuals by making the game wiimote only (he said it himself), it didnt work. As soon the game started getting bad word of mouth its sales declined since most of the people that were looking forward to the game were gamers that use reviews and opinions to decide if they'd buy the game.

So, they just bought the game because it was a Sonic game?...Its kinda weird...at least Metroid isn`t dead right now. It could have been worse.
Should have made classic/gamecube/whatever controler available as an alternative IMO. It would make this game more comfortable i guess.

...i liked TF:RotF...but Optimus Prime, a big good guy, is way too...um...violent...tearing head of an enemy in two pieces with hooks, ripping off the face with a staff, tearing out and crushing spark (basicly heart) with bare hands...that sounds more like Mortal Kombat...I would pay to see Ridley doing at least something close to that. At least it would be fitting for him.

Its still not as worst as Brawl Ridley. I'm assuming your a Brawl Ridley fan from your avatar so I apologize for any offensiveness. If Roidley have bones people don't notice, that's a good thing.

...Nope. I prefer Roidley over Brawl Ridley and would call it my favourite version of him if he would have longer legs, darker texture and better head (like my custom version of his head, with shorter jaws and curved downward beak without a massive overbite). I change this avatar whenever i want to. It once was Roidley...hm...i think i should change it soon.

About visuals - does that looks like trash:

Now compare it to real trash on a Nintendo Wii:

Yeah, there was one part of the entire Other M that was really cheap and used just flat textures instead of a normal model for something on the ceilling...but everything else is fine. Ridley`s model here, for example, is a lot more detailed than Brawl version. And has better eyes...and better wing bones because Brawl Ridley`s left wing sometimes rotates at 1590 degree when you try to rotate it a little bit manually and reverses some values when touched while Roidley has nothing like that. The game itself is not a masterpiece like Super Metroid, but it is not trash like Big Rigs, Mario is Missing, E.T., that NES Transformers game about Ultra Magnus that dies in 1 hit even if it is a very small enemy with 3 bosses that are decepticon logos that shoot same projectile as everything else, CD-I LoZ games and Hotel Mario, Superman 64, etc. Its at least 7.0 IMO.
Then again, every third party developer ever (except Sega and their Sonic Colors) thought that the Wii was not capable of creating visuals that were even remotely comparable to that of the Xbox 360 or PS3, instead doing halfassed looking games that look like early PS2 games (well, technically Okami was originally a PS2 game, so...).

Just compare any of those games to any first party Wii title (and Sonic Colors).

EDIT: Forgot to mention Rayman Origins, which has also been ported to Xbox 360 and PS3, and it looks just like the other two (well, at least comparable to them)

If Other M bombed, that doesn't say good things about the likes of Hunters or Zero Mission. Though I'm not going to get into the whole Other M whining shenanigans. I'm too tired for this.

In other news, Brawl Ridley's eyes still weird me way the hell out. Like WOW was this design bad at depicting intelligence. xD He looks more like a cracked out psychopath than anything.

Zero Mission is a good game, something between Fusion and Super Metroid. But Hunters is a bad game if you will ignore that multiplayer.

So, you are saying that he ISN'T a (i don`t know what "cracked out" means...does it means like on...um...shrooms, like Mario, or what?) phychopath? Nonsense.

I believe that Metroid didn't have much of a big fan base in Japan because Metroid came out for the NES during the end of it's life cycle. Famicon System (SNES) was coming out soon in Japan and people were looking forward to other games. The US had an extra year to develop a relationship with the Metroid franchise before the SNES got here; which probably gave rise for the western audience.

Literally every non-Prime game in the series is between Fusion and Super Metroid. :troll:

And I mean he looks like he is on drugs. He looks like he's not "calculating axe murderer" crazy but more like "Hallucinating schizophrenic who is coincidentally holding a knife while they flail around angrily and make loud noises through their mouth froth" crazy. Which isn't the right kind of crazy for Ridley.

I remember someone posting color alts of Ridley and they didn't add a black alt out of all 6 color alts. I was so disappointed. If Ridley is confirmed playable, he needs to have a black alt. Red eyes would be icing on the cake.

If his final smash were of him using his skin hardening from other M, I could SEE why they wouldn't use black skin red eyes because the only change would be his eyes turning green instead of red in his final smash.

Though we should get a sort of "Dark Ridley" palette yeah.

This question has been on my mind as of lately: Since Ridley was apparently confirmed to be a stage hazard, what's keeping Sakurai and Nintendo from showing him in action? Why haven't they shown any pictures of him on Pyrosphere, and why did they only show an awkwardly-moving shadow?

Considering that NoA is painfully aware of what the Smash fandom wants over here, why haven't they gone over to Sakurai to ask him to "reveal the damn stage hazard so the fanbase can be put out of their misery"?

because they're all jerks who feel like shattering innocent people's dreams after having built them up for a year straight.

What, you mean Sakurai didn't just FORGET in those hundreds of post-direct press photos to include Ridley in a single one despite him being so CLEARLY AND ACTIVELY deconfirmed? :troll:

That's an exaggeration. It's clear that Nintendo and Sakurai (especially him) loves their fanbase, and that they're especially grateful for all the years of support they've given them. You could tell just how happy Sakurai was to be there at the Invitational in front of his thousands of fans, and he's too lighthearted of a person to be actively cruel to specific fanbases.

Probably because NoA, for the most part, has as much power as a crushed bug . They follow orders from the old wise japanese men in suits and never ask questions. They are just the localization and marketing guys. Also who's to say they didn't ask and Sakurai just shrugged off their concerns :urg:.

Frankly, there is very little logical reason for not showing him at this point. His presence on the Pryosphere has been teased for nearly a whole year now, and so far we've only got a glimpse of his shadow. He hasn't even been named yet. And this is coming from the same people who randomly and nonchalantly confirmed the return of Green Hill Zone in a group of recent pictures, and who went out of their way to officially de-confirm Chrom after his appearance at the end of Robin's trailer (despite it being fairly clear that he was part of a Final Smash). With that in mind, I see no reason for why they have yet to properly show Ridley, despite him being hyped up for so long.

Really, you'd think they'd have at least accidentally had him in one of the many Pryosphere pictures we've seen...
