Round 15: Add three characters who debuted on the Switch
(Veyle)(/)
(Bandana Waddle Dee)(Tinkaton)(Tom Nook)
(Octoling)(Ring Fit Trainee)(Isaac)(Master Chief)
(Chun-Li)(Tails)(Tidus)
Min Min was chosen to provide an additional franchise and to not limit myself of the Fire Emblem, Pokemon, Xenoblade trifecta. I feel like Veyle would be a more interesting choice than Alear. For Pokemon, I went with Tinkaton to have a pokemon that’s not a starter.
Pick one character to represent each additive primary color (red, green, blue)
Pick five characters
Cut x number of fighters
(Excitebiker)
(Ring Fit Trainee)
(Tom Nook) (Oatchi) (Off the Hook) (Chorus Kids)
(Ogerpon) (Lyn)(/)
(Tails) (Knuckles) (Arle) (Chun-Li) (Jill) (Leon)
New: Ring Fit Trainee, Oatchi, Ogerpon
I wasn't sure how many options would be at my disposal here, but surprisingly I felt like I had a lot to choose from. Ultimately I went for some characters who I felt provided further functional and visual diversity. Ring Fit Trainee may only have one game to their name so far, but it sold incredibly well and marks the series as Nintendo's most promising since Splatoon. I considered having Dragaux instead, but since I was able to bring back Incineroar and have a fair bit of dragonesque heavyweights already, I went with the main protagonist. Not too exciting at face value but I think there's a lot of potential to be pulled from a character emphasizing constant mobility, the more you're moving the more your attacks will pack a punch! The fire hair is pretty neat too.
Pikmin has had quite a renaissance lately and I think we can agree that Oatchi is the biggest breakout star of the new game. I've always wanted a playable Bulborb or monster from the series, and I think Oatchi fulfills that in a bit more of a practical way. Not technically a quadruped, but he kinda functions as one. I've always liked the idea of more animalistic fighters on the roster - perhaps he can utilize some of the Pikmin that Olimar hasn't as well? And a bit of a different angle but similarly missing visible hands, Ogerpon is a pretty exciting and well liked new Pokemon with some obvious potential through swapping out their elemental masks. I'm not the most plugged in on Pokemon, but I like them quite a lot and they strike a nice sweet spot between the "cute" and "cool" factor I'd like to try and establish a balance between in our current lineup. The fact that it completes the typing trifecta was honestly just a happy accident here.
Special mention to Edelgard, who I think I'd have liked to see over Byleth. But I'm not ready to dish out another FE character yet (unless it's Marth). Alear isn't very striking to me, admittedly. I know they've got some cool stuff going on but Engage doesn't seem like it really set the world on fire either. Thought of other Pokemon like Toxtricity, Tinkaton and Meowscarada but wanted to do something more fresh. I think there's some potential for Splatoon here too, but I already got a "Switch rep" covered through Off the Hook several rounds again.
A difficult round, where I may have had too many Switch characters already.
Playable Octoling debuted in Octo Expansion, for the Switch, which is where its design would come from.
Meowscarda would be a decent pick for Gen 9, but is likely the first Pokémon to go if cuts occur now.
Rex is a bias pick, I guess. Taking after his XC3 design would have a unique moveset. Despite that, he’s only here now because I needed a Switch character.

Vote for your three favorite rosters, where yours is not first.
1. Louie G.
2. Bowser King
3. Dark Vortex
One character per addative primary color (red, green, blue)
Add three characters with an achromatic (greyscale) color scheme
Add five fighters
Cut 20 fighters
Add a character per modern subtractive primary color (cyan, magenta, yellow)
It's harder to get into the weeds of each roster the bigger they get, but I can continue to look for consistency and some eye-catching additions. I don't agree with all of their decisions, but Otoad has made some creative decisions that line up fairly well with my own and what I'd like to see. Whereas Pupp has put out a fairly agreeable roster across the board, even though a couple favorites are still missing the boat for now. Some of those might be a little less forgivable as we continue but they're okay for now.
Louie G. wins this round, OToad64 gets second, and Nirvanfan gets third. Louie G. gets five points, OToad64 gets three points, and Nirvanfan gets one point.
Round 16: Add one character to represent each additive primary color (red, green, blue). Unlike the prior rounds, please avoid using pink and teal if possible as these will be used for a future round.
(Veyle)(/)(Noah)
(Bandana Waddle Dee)(Tinkaton)(Tom Nook)
(Octoling)(Ring Fit Trainee)(Isaac)(Master Chief)
(Chun-Li)(Tails)(Tidus)
Noah is added to give another Xenoblade fighter even though I strongly considered Terry. Little Mac is here to give me another franchise, but I did consider K. Rool. Marth gives me the most important Fire Emblem fighter missing on the roster.
Add 4 Nintendo characters
Add 3 characters with an achromatic (greyscale) color scheme
Add 5 fighters of your choice
Cut 20 fighters, who were not included in prior round
Add one character to represent each modern subtractive primary color (cyan, magenta, yellow)
Give a franchise of your choice 3 fighters
Additions: Zero Suit Samus (Blue), Young Link (Green), Terry (Red)
64 characters. Young Link is here to bring representation to the older Zelda titles. Terry to give us another third party, and Zero Suit because I felt like it.
New: Mii Brawler (Red), Squirtle (Blue), Ivysaur (Green)
Using the opportunity to properly fill out Pokemon Trainer, and add a Mii type. Maybe Mii Brawler is fudging it a bit, but the three default Mii types do have clearly defined colors and Brawler's happens to be Red. I'd like to offer more options down the line but Brawler is the most standard fighter so it covers the most ground by default.
