New: Daisy, Toon Link, Marth, Octoling

Decided to provide a self-inflicted limitation this round... Clones and semiclones only.

Daisy functions more as Peach's Luigi this time around. Her properties have changed to work as more of a distinct variant, like Falco's jump from Melee -> Brawl. Toon Link returns to give Zelda some more supplemental representation, from a branch of the series we've yet to represent. Marth is finally added to the Fire Emblem lineup, joining his echo fighter. And Octoling provides a new face, who can be handled any number of ways. Full on clone of Inkling, or straight up pretty much a new character like Wolf with a different weapon loadout. The latter is obviously more fun, but I think we'd land somewhere in the middle.

New: ROB (at least his American colors), Wolf, Solaire of Astora

Blew a lot of the obvious answers earlier, but I'm pretty happy with my options here. ROB is another great classic surprise pick, and Wolf supplements a mainstay series with an antagonistic foil. Solaire adds another new third party to the roster with Dark Souls - in my opinion, one of the most notable and influential contemporary series and I think an effort should be taken to let Smash's third parties keep up with what's happening in the gaming world today just as well as celebrating the classics. And a knight character, as well as someone replicating Dark Souls' calculated, trial and error combat style would make for a fresh new combatant. Solaire's got some other colors on him, but his armor and helmet is silver so I believe he should qualify. I chose him because he's close to a "mascot" character for the series and he has more personality behind him than the likes of Chosen Undead.

Every participating third party company from Smash Ultimate has returned (give or take Disney) after Microsoft and SNK

Since this round seems to be kind of a last hurrah of our rosters in this current form, I'll round everything out and make as complete a package as I can with the remaining space. To elaborate on what I've already laid out, I added both Banjo and Steve because I can never really bring myself to choose between them. They feel like a package deal for me in a similar way to Mega Man and Ryu, one more for their classic legacy and another for their evergreen presence. I believe they compliment each other extremely well. Been playing a lot of KOF lately as well so much love to Terry, even detached from rounding out the third party partners. He's my favorite fighting game character in Ultimate.

Duck Hunt is self evident by the first party series mantra, but I'm glad I was able to add them regardless. This is a character I've hovered over adding a dozen times now and just never found the right time for. And then Bowser Jr. just adds another face to the biggest staple franchise. I let Pokemon get a bit of a leg up on Mario up to this point and Jr. is certainly justified from a series significance perspective. I'm a bit dubious of how necessary he is from a gameplay perspective but I have a lot of fun with him, more than Rosalina personally, so he comes back.
