So I got RB&Y and I'm doing the Mew glitch on my Blue Version (AKA: main of the 3, lmao) so I'll let people know how it goes? XD
Does anyone know how/why the Mew glitch works? If I fought a different trainer, rather then the Slowpoke Trainer, what would happen? (I was thinking of doing the glitch on Red version, but using different trainers to see what would happen)
I know -how- it works, but not why.
It takes the Special stat of whatever you fight after you Fly/Teleport and puts that value into the hex for the Pokèmon you run into.
I know the missing.no glitch (talk to old man, fly to that one city, surf along the coast to that one island, surf along coast =p)
^wonders why that works
When the Old Man does his demonstration, the game changes your name to "OLD MAN" in order for the scene to work properly. It has to store the values for your name somewhere else in order to put it back when the demonstration is over, so it puts them in the spot where the wild Pokèmon and their levels are listed. Each character in your name represents a hex value. The first, third, and fifth characters affect what Pokèmon appear, and the second, fourth, and sixth affect their levels, which is why you can get Pokèmon with levels higher than 100 this way.
I don't know what each one represents, exacly, but the letter "D" makes Mewtwo appear, for example. When you used the default "ASH" in Red version, you'd get Snorlax and Golbat.
They assumed that anytime you'd find a wild battle, it would change it to whatever is supposed to go in that area when you went to that route/cave/whatever, but the side of Cinnabar/Seafoam doesn't HAVE any values. That's why if you fly to Cinnabar from, say, the Safari Zone, you'll run into Safari Zone Pokèmon there. Because the spots for Pokèmon are hex values, 151 are regular Pokèmon, and the other 105 are Missingno./other glitch spots. They're just placeholders.
With the battle glitch (that's what I'll call the Mew glitch from now on, lmao) is there any harm that can be done to your game for doing so? Even if the game freezes?
Since you can get a lot of the other "glitch" Pokèmon that way, it's assumed that any problem you could get with fighting/catching, say, a Missingno, would work the same way.
