And then there was the extremely useful MonsterSupply glitch. Surfing on the west side of the Seafoam Islands would yield monsters from wherever you encountered them previously- this made catching Tauros a cinch.
Ah! Don't forget the incredible Item Duplication glitch as well!
Good old MissingNo., helping us all out with items we need desperately.

Just encounter a MissingNo., and the 6th, 7th, or 8th item slot with duplicate x110 or more. It shows up as a glitchy number.

Lol @ baby missingno.s.
That'd be hilarious. That would definitely spawn a new generation of gaming.
And who could conceive of such a thing?
I wonder if any glitch Pokemon in the newer Generations would ever be able to breed?
?s in R/S/E cannot because it would most likely spawn one of those blasted Bad Eggs.
-- in D/P might be able to, I've never tested 4th Gen glitch Pokemon.

So I got RB&Y and I'm doing the Mew glitch on my Blue Version (AKA: main of the 3, lmao) so I'll let people know how it goes? XD

Does anyone know how/why the Mew glitch works? If I fought a different trainer, rather then the Slowpoke Trainer, what would happen? (I was thinking of doing the glitch on Red version, but using different trainers to see what would happen)

EDIT:

Oh, and I forgot how to do the dup. item glitch.... <_< how do I do it?

I know the missing.no glitch (talk to old man, fly to that one city, surf along the coast to that one island, surf along coast =p)
^wonders why that works

D/P glitch Pokemon are impossible to catch, and therefore, you can't breed them.

For both of those, the game misplaces a number or something in the cache. I don't exactly remember how it works though.

For the first part though, I have tried it. With different trainers comes different Pokemon. For example, you can encounter missingno. many times as long as there are more trainers. I have even caught a level 7 Nidoking while doing this, but sometimes fighting certain trainers causes your game to loop through the same trainer battle continuously until your game freezes.

Nonsense. Free rights, I say!

With the battle glitch (that's what I'll call the Mew glitch from now on, lmao) is there any harm that can be done to your game for doing so? Even if the game freezes?

Also, did I get the item duplication glitch correct? Or am I way wrong? lol

/got my Mew, funny how it learns Transform at level 10..

Absolutely no harm is caused :)

From my memory, you got it correct. I haven't done it in a few years, but the hundreds of times I did it during my childhood (wouldn't be surprised if I've done this glitch over a thousand times) have pretty much burnt the process of doing into my mind forever.

Do the MissingNo. glitch and put the item you want to duplicate in the 6th slot. Surf on the right side of Cinnabar until you run into a MissingNo. Either kill it or run from it, and voila, the item should have a ridiculous number and/or graphic next to it.

The item is multiplied by 129.

Thank you, WouW.

Along with that MissingNo. glitch, you'll also find the last Pokemon that you battled at a level over 100.
I have a level 125 Rhydon because of it.

It always looked like a different number every time to me, but then again, I never really looked at it mathematically. All that mattered was that I had enough Master Balls/Rare Candy to last me a while. =P

(In other words, I was a stupid, cheating, kid. Yay.)

But wait, in both my Red and Blue versions the Pokémon is/are fixed, and in my Red version I have two...a 128 Golbat and a 144 Snorlax.

Your trainer name has something to do with the appearing Pokemon, if I remember correctly. (?)
My friend kept encountering Pidgeots and the like, and he has Red. It was pretty hilarious. It was mostly Missingno. and 'M though, so we had a guessing contest.

Good times. Good times.

Yeah...I figured it was some sort of value in the game that determined it. Not sure if it's just the name, though, otherwise I'd imagine a lot of other people would get that combination (my name is ASH in that game).

It would really suck if someone got two Pokémon for theirs, but they were Zubat and Tentacool...i.e. the two most common Pokémon evar, at least in first gen.

But Tentacool works with all of them.

Whereas Dragonite would be awesome.

Oh, random question regarding glitches...once, my friend (who had little to no knowledge about Pokémon at the time) wanted to play my Red version briefly. They were wandering around and entered Lorlei's room in Indigo Plateau. They started fishing in the water, unaware of the fact that you're not supposed to be able to find anything in that water.

They claim they hooked a Dragonite...does anyone know if this was at all possible, or if they just hallucinated? I know they weren't making it up to be cool or something, just because I know the nature of said friend, but I can't imagine that could've happened except in some odd glitch.

I would've guessed that they got confused and mis-explained where they actually were, save for the fact that you can't catch Dragonite anywhere in the wild. Especially not by fishing.

I know -how- it works, but not why.

It takes the Special stat of whatever you fight after you Fly/Teleport and puts that value into the hex for the Pokèmon you run into.

I know the missing.no glitch (talk to old man, fly to that one city, surf along the coast to that one island, surf along coast =p)

When the Old Man does his demonstration, the game changes your name to "OLD MAN" in order for the scene to work properly. It has to store the values for your name somewhere else in order to put it back when the demonstration is over, so it puts them in the spot where the wild Pokèmon and their levels are listed. Each character in your name represents a hex value. The first, third, and fifth characters affect what Pokèmon appear, and the second, fourth, and sixth affect their levels, which is why you can get Pokèmon with levels higher than 100 this way.

I don't know what each one represents, exacly, but the letter "D" makes Mewtwo appear, for example. When you used the default "ASH" in Red version, you'd get Snorlax and Golbat.

They assumed that anytime you'd find a wild battle, it would change it to whatever is supposed to go in that area when you went to that route/cave/whatever, but the side of Cinnabar/Seafoam doesn't HAVE any values. That's why if you fly to Cinnabar from, say, the Safari Zone, you'll run into Safari Zone Pokèmon there. Because the spots for Pokèmon are hex values, 151 are regular Pokèmon, and the other 105 are Missingno./other glitch spots. They're just placeholders.

With the battle glitch (that's what I'll call the Mew glitch from now on, lmao) is there any harm that can be done to your game for doing so? Even if the game freezes?
Since you can get a lot of the other "glitch" Pokèmon that way, it's assumed that any problem you could get with fighting/catching, say, a Missingno, would work the same way.

They came up with that.
Unless somehow the game area was hacked to spawn Dragonites, which is near impossible.

There is a glitch in Lorelei's room, where one can surf into the statue in it, but otherwise it should not have anything else in it.

Also, about the letter in the name, the type of MissingNo.s do vary from MissingNo. being in a Ghost form, an Aerodactyl Fossil form, a Kabutops Fossil form, and its beloved glitched block form.
But speaking about this concept for the kind of Pokemon you get on Cinnabar's East Coast, I'm not sure; I've never tested it...

For the curious, this site has a good explanation (or at least as good as I've seen), under the section "How the Mew Trick Works"

So I got RB&Y and I'm doing the Mew glitch on my Blue Version (AKA: main of the 3, lmao) so I'll let people know how it goes? XD

You will get a different pokemon depending on the trainer's pokemon's special stat. Here's a guide with a complete list of every pokemon you can get from every trainer in the game using the Mew glitch (skip to the "Trainer Two" list). Keep in mind that you can only "use" each trainer once for this glitch, though you can use the gambler (or whatever trainer you fly away from) an unlimited amount of times.

http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~jdonald/pokemon/pokemon_mew_glitch.txt

Also, if you didn't know, if you reduce Trainer Two's pokemon's defense to its minimum possible value by repeatedly using Growl or a similar attack, you can reduce their level to 1. Because of a bug in the EXP calculation formula, for Pokemon in RBY with a medium-high EXP growth rate (like Mew), if you do this and then use that caught pokemon in a battle and have them gain 56 exp or less, they'll instantly grow to level 100 :p (This technique is often used in speedruns)

I was told it had to grow a level the first battle....now I'm pissed.

I could've had a level 100 Mew already. >:

(I'm beating the game with Mew/Mr.Mime while avoiding as many trainers as possible. I'll then go back and train my team using those trainers. :3)

SuSa, you might also want to try the Mew Glitch on Yellow as well.

Via this glitch, you end up encountering many other glitches. While some are funny and some are frightening, it's worth it to see a glitch Pokemon in Yellow.

However, you must watch out for the ♀, along with Yellow MissingNo.

Otherwise, the majority of glitch Pokemon in Yellow aren't really that dangerous.
Try 44 H y, X - x, or 4 4.

Question: What influences what Pokemon you see when you try to do the Missingno glitch for x129 items?

I get a lvl 146 Charmeleon and a lvl 164 Aerodactyl If I recall the levels correctly.
