Maybe you could just, not shame people for liking what they like?
I'm pretty sure what he's saying is that one is obviously a much better deal and-for most-will be a better experience. Though it was worded a little harshly I'll admit.
that's exactly what he was saying. it should be reminded that there is a bit of a difference between being "toxic" over simply being "blunt".
a Pokemon game comes out with the following problems that longtime fans pointed out fruitlessly:
-large chunk of legacy members of the Pokedex unattainable entirely (when asked why, the devs' reasoning was suspect at best, and they started dodging when pressed further)
-it has a presentation that would be deemed unacceptable in this day and age if it were any other brand (seriously, there were trees in the Wild Area that looked ripped straight out of N64 Zelda OoT)
-the campaign is likely the standard formula once again. (new trainer, small town, starter Pokemon, conquer gyms and get proofs, meet evil team somewhere in the middle and IDK Save the world or something before you become champion. the only time I've seen differently was Gen 5 where N beat you to said champion title, and he wasn't playing.)
-the animations are minimalistic at best. (Distant Kingdom was particularly salty about this one)
it suggests that Gamefreak is cutting corners, or worse, getting complacent. and the majority of fans would buy it regardless of its quality just on the merit it's another core Pokemon title, and a new generation.
most other monster collector games don't have name recognition on the level of Pokemon, and honestly, that's really the deciding factor these days. I admit I've heard little talk about Yokai Watch among my friends, but there is a game called Nexomon that I've heard good things about, and I already see how that game wears its older gen inspiration on its sleeve from the get-go. Digimon Story: Cyber Sleuth is also pretty good, and I've ran through the Complete Edition's two separate campaigns, how it handles team building, though, might be the make-or-break on casual fans...
TL;DR: it's one thing to like a Pokemon game... but it's another thing entirely to gloss over how the series is declining
because it's Pokemon...
