Reggie cracked a joke about Mother 3 at E3, I wouldn't see him doing that, and then Nintendo not doing anything with the series.
(Mothers 25th anniversary is right around the corner as well) Only time will tell but the odds are in our favor this time.

Star Fox was joked about and got a new game as well.

Just because a game isn't getting games anymore doesn't mean it can't get bigger.

Hell if we're lucky enough we'll get remakes of Mother 3 or the other games, I doubt we ever would but Mother 3 was originally designed for N64.

Popularity wise? not too sure about that. Have you seen the fan websites? They're very passionate, it'd be out of character for Sakurai to just flip an entire dedicated fanbase like this off. Plus it was popular enough for the fans to essentially beg Nintendo for Earthbound on VC and it happened. Lucas is from Mother 3, probably one of the darkest, most emotional games out there. Anyone who hasn't played it is missing out because Sakurai probably played it and saw Lucas as fit enough to be in Smash.

But I pretty much believe the leak now after seeing the Rhythmn Heaven ghost in Smash Run. I just want one or two more newcomers than are mentioned in the leak

Thats almost 2 million copies in Japan. 3 million worldwide. Pikmin only has 1.63 sales worldwide (not including sequels/ports) and they got a Rep. Rhythm heaven has ALL the right for a character. Its a GIGANTIC deal in japan is the point. Smash is a Japanese game. Do the math and they have what it takes.

Yeah. 1.56% of the population of Japan playing Rhythm Heaven is an enormous deal.

Popularity wise? not too sure about that. Have you seen the fan websites? They're very passionate, it'd be out of character for Sakurai to just flip an entire dedicated fanbase like this off.

It's why I find the potential addition of Shulk odd, and why people suggesting Isaac makes me chuckle. It's also why I won't be surprised when Chrom or any other Awakening rep gets in for that matter. It wouldn't surprise me one bit to see him give Lucas the boot and just put in Ness, or vice-versa.

Besides, we've already seen teh franklin badge, and that belongs to Lucas, not that it matters too much.

Technically, the Franklin Badge is not exclusive to Lucas. Ness uses it throughout his adventure. I'd imagine it becomes an heirloom in Flint's family at some point prior to Mother 3 somehow, which is why Lucas acquires it. It also serves as a plot point for both games, though arguably, the Franklin Badge serves a far greater role in Mother 3 than it does in Mother 2.

Mother is getting bigger and if they release it in the west it'll keep growing.

It's hard for a game to grow when only the second game comes to the US.

Except Nintendo can't LEGALLY take Starmen's translation. It's not about asking for it, it's the legality of it. That's like how they invited Peachyhime to the invitational but couldn't put she was a PM player. They'd have to put out a cease and desist, which would literally stop and end it.

Because they make up figures. For example, if you look at Fire Emblem Awakening, they list it as having sold 1.28 million. However the game hasn't sold a million copies yet, as it doesn't appear on the list of 3DS games to reach 1 million copies.

Well, a "might" and a "leaning towards" are enough to give me an uneasy feeling. And we are not even yet in the phase where the final roster is oficially revealed, thats when people get REALLY upset about their favorite characters getting cut. I don't even play Lucas, but my brother is a big fan of Mother 3.
Overall, I don't spite this leak business that much. Its just really annoying all the noise its making.

Yeah that's another reason I think he's staying, he was planned since the 64 version I believe. I know for sure he was meant to replace Ness in Melee.

Honestly, Ness deserves to be in the game more than Lucas. Earthbound is a better game than Mother 3 and Ness was one of the original 12.

That being said, they may screw over Ness by announcing Lucas when Earthbound 2 comes out in the West.

Yes. But when we get derails about "Earthbound reps the series better", we're definitely not on topic(or arguing which game is better. :|). Speaking of, reporting now. There are reasons he could be cut, but I'm somewhat doubting it has to do with the "not enough games" bit. Sakurai doesn't really show any consistency in that, so it was likely a "too similar moves or animations" case, and that at least has happened before. I think if it was cut, it's more of a Dr. Mario/Pichu situation. That said, we don't know if any will be cut, or how soon he got this information. It's hard to say.

And yes, I'm trying hard to try and make this more about the leak itself than pure character speculation.

Which game is better is highly subjective. It apparently does have a major hate base online in Japan (apparently because it isn't EarthBound so Melee then) but it also has its fans too.

It's like apples and oranges. Some people hate apples, some love them. Some people hate oranges, some love them. There are extremes on both sides, but because everyone has different tastes, they cannot ever be truly compared.

Or the ending, the fight and how you beat the final boss put that game in my top 10 favorite games off all time. It was just so unexpected and beautifully done. No other ending in any game even comes close for me.
