What would you call characters that were cut in a sequel then returned in the next one? Oldcomers?

I don't expect this leaked to be revealed true until the game releases because I doubt Sakurai the tease he is will show anymore characters.

"MEN" as in multiple.

I doubt that it's Marshal, and I would actually be disappointed if that was the case.

Sal's getting info from someone with inside information. AKA someone from Japan most likely. You should expect at least something to get garbled in translation. Although I think it'll be all 3 of them. I personally think they'll be called the Glee Club since that's the American name of the minigame.

At this point, the only people who wouldn't believe this leak are those that are pissed that characters like Palutena or the chorus men took up slots belonging to Ridley or Chibi-Robo...XD sorry if I offended anyone by saying that.

Its weird that were hearing about this leak in english, I would think that only a Japanese developer would have access to this kinda info. Makes me suspect that the leaker works in Nintendo's treehouse. Still, do people in Japan know about this leak? Have they known about it longer than we have?

I expected Chrom and Shulk to begin with, I love Chorus Kids, and I could care less about Lucas.

Yeah sorry but Ness has been there since Smash 64, Mother deserves to keep a 2nd rep, and besides, Chorus Kids don't have any character depth compared to Lucas, if you haven't played Mother 3, you wouldn't understand Lucas at all and why he's such a GREAT character to be on the cast..

A theory is that the guy is involved with marketing, so he gets tipped off about the newcomers they plan to reveal (who, along with the remaining Gematsu leaked characters, have all been characters from recent games or recently revived franchises, making it seem that the pre-release newcomers are being those that they can use to promote other games, while those with nothing to promote are being kept as secret unlockable newcomers, who the marketing guys do not have to be made aware of).

I thought that too, but it doesn't really seem to answer the question. I mean, less people would read it on Gematsu for sure, but that doesn't make it any less likely he'd be caught. No offence to Sal or anything, but it seems an odd choice of site.

The bigger question is WHO is he getting this info from. If he is part of marketing, I don't think knowing the character roster is his jurisdiction, just it?

I'M READY. I REALLY love Rhythm Heaven, and the game has had 2 games since the launch of Brawl, and the first game just shortly before. And it's also very popular in Japan, they even made an arcade game for it. I am honestly most excited to see Chorus Men than any other character announced thus far.

ANYONE would be way better to represent Awakening. As much as I don't like that game, I think that if a character comes from it, I'd be ok with them as long as it's not Chrom.

Mewtwo and Roy are kind of weird in my book. They had those folders/files on the Brawl disk that hints they were supposed to make it into Brawl but had to be cut due to time constraints. In other words they were never meant to go. They were in the plan but couldn't quite make it.

Less Newcomers than Melee, you mean. Brawl had 18 Newcomers, Melee had 14. Technically, with five Melee cuts, Brawl only had a total of 13 more characters, but there were still 18 Newcomers total.

I don't really care about the role that he played in the game. I care more about the impact of the franchise. In the smaller franchises, it's the whole series being represented, not the chars.

Plus, Mother is more 'dead' than F-Zero and I'm an adrenaline-deprived F-Zero fan and I'm probably just salty.

I don't play Lucas but I personally feel bad IF he gets the boot. Three people I know played him hardcore and it'll be very upsetting to them if he gets kicked. I feel like most people prefered him over Ness and his psi basic attacks flow together nicely and fit his overall theme better than Ness' kicks and headwhacks, but Ness is the original EB smash rep, and he kind of deserves to stay way more than Lucas.

But as you can see from Pac-Man, he doesn't always use character specific movesets. Pac-Man uses moves from pretty much ALL of Namco. And I feel like Chorus Men will be the same, using moves representing all of Rhythm Heaven, not just Glee Club / Night Walk / Mash in Fever moves. And since RH has MANY minigames, there are TONS of potential moves for him.

I'm telling you, if there's is another Gematsu leak, it better have Plusle and Minun and Toon Zelda and Sheik, because those characters sounded unique and Sakurai dropped them. He better use them in some Smash Bros at some point.

And honestly, Ness has been on the chopping block for two games straight, and he was at least considered for the chopping block in this one as well based on what we know already.

By the way, "Lucas likely to get the cut" might actually mean the opposite of what everyone things. Think about it this way: "Lucas is likely to make the cut." It'd be different if it say "Lucas is likely to get cut" but that "the" in there throws the entire statement off.

It might mean that Lucas is planned to come back instead of Ness like everyone seems to think.

I honestly don't think it has, but the people that I personally know, that like Chrom, have only played Awakening in terms of Fire Emblem. I'm actually begging all my friends to try the Tellius games, but they can't shell out the money. (Good think I bought RD when it came out.)


I really hate this leak, it made the excitement of new characters not very fun so far. That's why I'm leaving in September, so at least the hidden characters can give me some excitement. (I pray King K, Mewtwo and Micaiah are among them).

And for those questioning what Mewtwo and Roy would be labeled, I would mark them vets. Charizard on his own isn't really a "vet" but that's what he's marked as on the site, so I would do the same for them.

This leak doesn't mention them (well I don't believe the leak anyway) probably because the fact that they aren't in terms of this guy considered newcomers, and the fact that they will most likely be hidden characters. I have a very hard time buying Chorus Men as a starter though, if they somehow actually are on the roster.

I really don't want Ness cut, because like I said before, it shows possibility of one of the other original 12 getting cut.

additionally, if they decided to meld their movesets together to appease people, ness would be made even more untrue to his appearance in EB, as he had like.... one offensive psychic attack

Earthbound re-release just happened recently, Mother's anniversary is July 29th, Reggie cracked a joke at Mother 3, and Star Fox, we got a new Star Fox.

I would hope to god he didn't just insult the Mother fans and leave us dry.

You can't really judge how much he represented Mother without playing the game in my opinion.

If we get a Mother 3 announcement July 29th, Lucas will be back, I can count on that.

I think Plusle and Minun's time to shine might be over since Gen 3 is...over... Then again Gen 3 remakes....and Plusle and Minun? Makes sense. But the Newcomers all seem to have a unique gimmick. I think he'd drop the whole tag team fighters idea since IC already are doing it and Rosalina has got the Puppeteer thing already. Toon Zelda/Shiek may happen if they start running low on time and decide to make a clone-ish character like how Wolf/TL were one of the last Brawl additions.

Going to a larger media site like IGN or Gamestop gets more traffic so Nintendo would be more wary of leaks passing through IGN.

Plus Nintendo seems to really like IGN/Gamestop (since whenever a game does well, it involves advertising it with a quote from their review on the eShop) so it might damage business relationships is IGN gets involved in leaking info.
