So what you're saying is this:

The game devs. didn't know the name of the pokemon character, and then one of these devs leaked to Sal "Pokemon From X and Y"?

Froakie is only popular because of Greninja. It was Fenekin all the way until Greninja was revealed.

They didn't know the name of Roy.
Really? I had no idea. Well then, I suppose people can be vague, I just can't believe whoever found out about Greninja didn't at least say "Frog Pokemon", or "Ninja Pokemon".

The whole thing is sketchy. I'm open to it being true, but I don't think it should be taken for granted. I'm actually starting to believe we might not even get a Namco rep and Mii doesn't make much sense unless Mii can be meshed to any playable moveset. No, taking moves from games Mii appeared in doesn't make sense, because its contrary to what a Mii is. Mii is you, its customization.

Giving "Mii" a predefined moveset is the worst possible thing a Mii could do and contradicts everything that a Mii is. Mii might be repped in Brawl, but more likely as your Smash Bros. profile and not as an actual playable character. We'll see, though.

The second leak? I don't buy it at all. The "leak" says that Pac-Man and Mii are still coming, implying that this is current information. Not knowing who the Pokemon from X and Y on the same day it was released screams fake to me. Plus, if the first leak was legit and came out, there's no way the person wouldn't have been found out and discovered.

All of the excuses for the Sal Romano leak are sketchy. Person had outdated information? Sorry, second leak completely contradicts that notion by implying that two characters from the first leak are "still coming." If it is outdated information, its someone who was very close to Sakurai to even have such information, and ultimately they'd never risk their job to leak the info in the first place.

So, yeah, I'm just not sure about the Sal Romano leak right now. I think its possible, at least the first part. If Chorus Men are announced, yes, I'll believe it. But no, its not impossible to suggest someone might've guessed Wii Fit Trainer. Almost every fake leak I see has some random character in it no one thinks will get in, so I don't see how its impossible for one person to guess it right.

The thing is, it might not have been Greninja he found. It could've been a placeholder character that actually said "Pokemon from X and Y" and after the game's release, decided to Greninja for whatever reason.

That's essentially what people are saying, and due to Roy have the exact same issue as is(he was originally listed as "Fire Emblem Character"), this is actually pretty logical. Remember, we don't know when Sal's leaker got all the information.(which is the only part that makes this somewhat sketchy, although logically, it's easy to believe due to a similar thing happening before) We only know when Sal leaked the information he got. So it could've actually been listed or it could've been a very safe guess. Both are reasonable possibilities. I outright said myself well before Greninja showed up "A Gen 5 or Gen 6 Pokemon is inevitable." The problem with the Pokemon-specific part of the leak is that it works either way, being a safe guess or an actual real leak.

The only problem with the idea about "when" the information came out is the second leak implies that he has current information. That's what I find really sketchy about it moreso than potentially just having outdated information.

I see what you mean...

Well, regardless, It's still very suspect. I will have to say though, props if he's just guessing.

Er, no. It really doesn't. The thing is, Sal announced the second leak later on, but that has nothing to do when he got the information period. I think this is a case where people is actually taking the time of the second leak out of context to what information he actually had and when he got it. They don't really correlate at all.

I highly doubt he didn't have outdated information. Note "Animal Crossing Guy". That should've said Villager the first time. The name got changed upon the reveal to a final one. It's very clear Sal's leaker only give base information without the more current names, because he couldn't have gotten them at that point, or he never told Sal the current information despite having it.

For Sal's leaker, these are the two likely scenarios that happened;

  1. He only got the base roster, with code names for characters. He was then fired.
  2. He still works there, but never gave us more than the old names because he didn't want to.
Or she, I don't think Sal gave the leaker's official gender/sex, but eh.

I see what you mean...

Agreed.

Actually, people said Little Mac was deconfirmed because of the boxing ring and villager's punch  Then Toon Link was deconfirmed:joyful: Sheik was too! :rotfl: Yoshi was about to be cut :chuckle: And Ike was going to be replaced by Chrom :awesome:

So... Why should we think Wonder Red, Ridley, Balloon-Fighter, Mewtwo and many others are "deconfirmed"? Except Sakurai says it directly (laughs), such as what he did with Waluigi, Dark Samus and Skull Kid, I think we cannot say "this guy is deconfirmed".
I'm going to take this to mean that Ivysaur is still in

Sal's leaker most definitely has early development information, what with Animal Crossing Guy and Pokémon from X & Y. Just because he posted the second part later doesn't mean he got the information later, it's likely been split into parts to gain validity first before dropping it all, just like ChaosZero did with Dragoon.

For #1: The problem behind that logic is, again, "Pac-Man and Mii are still coming." Everything else would work out fine, but this line throws it all off. This line implies that the leaker has current information, or at least updated information. That's what throws a red flag in my eyes.

No, that simply implies that the leaker simply said that based on his information Pac-Man and Mii are still coming eventually, if his information was updated he'd likely have given a specific time for them to be shown, like he initially did, which of course turned out to be false. Doesn't necessarily have anything to do with when he got the information.

Plus, part of that is Sal's own wording, we don't know the exact wording of the e-mails he has received.

While some of it has a substance to it (Megaman, Little Mac, Mii) the rest were never likely. Villager was more or less disconfirmed by Sakurai, and no one saw WFT coming. So, if he's right so far, why didn't he get the 'These characters will be shown at E3' right?

Theory A: He (the leaker) saw the original E3 trailer, then leaked the newcomers. Sakurai found out, then changed the trailer

Impossible. The trailer alone would have taken a while to make, but to edit out all of the leaked newcomers and to produce a streamlined trailer in a few hours? That's a little hard to swallow.

Theory B: Another person got news of the newcomers to be shown at E3, then leaked them to Sal.

If this is true, why didn't Sal say 'may show up', instead of 'will show up'? That's all I got, as this theory could be possible.
Thing is, Sal never said "will show up." His post said exactly this: "My unlikely predictions:" Never in his post did he say all those characters would show up.

He also made that post on a forum which has a strict policy against fake leaks, so we assume that Sal, trying to be credible, took the leak with a grain of salt himself. He didn't go out and claim this was leaked information. He said these things were unlikely because he himself probably didn't believe it. It wasn't until after E3, when three of the characters in the leak were proven correct, that he came forth on Gematsu and stated it had been leaked to him prior.

As for the "Pokemon from X and Y" thing, others have stated it as well, but the fact is we don't know when the leaker got his information. He could just be sitting on outdated information and only knew a Pokemon from X and Y would be featured, but didn't know which one. I agree with; had he seen the Pokemon, a quick search would have told him what it was. The fact he didn't list it by name indicates to me he didn't have enough inside info to get an updated roster and instead resorted to leaking the placeholder name.

Funny how someone saw potential in the Chorus Kids (as an Assist Trophy) long before anyone know about the leak's existence (the art's date is May 28, 2013, btw). They weren't as unpredictable as Wii Fit Trainer, it seems.

I sincerely we hope we know either way by E3. This thread goes around in circles so often that I'm dizzy.

They were suggested as an Assist Trophy, not as a playable character. Not the same thing and hardly makes them any more predictable.

Yes it does. One person mentioning the Chorus Men means many people were mentioning the Chorus Men.

So does one person (Sal) "guessing" Wii Fit Trainer mean that there were a ton of people suggesting Wii Fit Trainer. Maybe it's just me, but I haven't seen many people suggest her. Can you please find these "many" people.

That wasn't his point. It means that if somebody else guessed Wii Fit Trainer besides Sal's Leaker(bare with me, I'm not saying WFT was a guess by the leaker in this case. Could be either), then others could too. Being hard to guess =/= Not impossible to guess.

Which is pretty much the overall point. Somebody guessed Chorus Men before. Period.

Oh I forgot.

That reminds me, I brought Astro Boy as someone I wanted more than Wii Fit Trainer was brought up. That totally makes him a shoe-in, especially with his new anime. If Chorus Men can be predicted, so can Astro Boy.

ALL HAIL THE INFINITE MONKEY THEORY!

BKupa was just joking around. He's actually mocking SmashChu's usage of the argument.

No, Chorus Men was not guessed as playable. He was suggested as an AT, which isn't the same thing.

If it's worth anything, Sakurai mentioned in the developers direct(One from 2013)
"I get a lot of requests for characters from all around the world, but Wii Fit Trainer is one that nobody saw coming."

I was just thinking: Today's predictions, chances, and such are based off what could be a lucky guess.

I'm having a hard time believing this leak to be true. Don't misrepresent me, I'd love for all the characters 'leaked' to get in, but there's just a few things that stick out to me.

1. The Original Prediction.

While some of it has a substance to it (Megaman, Little Mac, Mii) the rest were never likely. Villager was more or less disconfirmed by Sakurai, and no one saw WFT coming. So, if he's right so far, why didn't he get the 'These characters will be shown at E3' right?

2. "Pokemon from X and Y"

So, I'm going to pretend I'm the leaker. I've seen the Pokemon newcomer, but I don't know it's name. So, seeing the tongue, webbed feet, and blue coloring, I assume it's a frog pokemon from X and Y.

I search "Frog Pokemon" into google, and here's what I get.

http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Greninja_(Pokémon)

Would it really be that hard to do this? That was 5 minutes of research, if the leaker took hours, he could have found out that Greninja is the most popular starter of X and Y. With the leaker recognizing the Chorus Kids, characters that only appeared in TWO minigames in Rhythm Heaven, I assume that he did some research.

That's just two of a few other parts I could talk about. The entire thing could still be true, but it just looks a tad bit sketchy...

But in the case it is true, I'd love to play as my Mii. :p
Yes, Yes, let's google a Pokemon no one knew existed at the time.(/s)

Also, like i've mentioned before, I imagine the leaker got hold of a list of possible characters that could have been shown at E3

The whole thing is sketchy. I'm open to it being true, but I don't think it should be taken for granted. I'm actually starting to believe we might not even get a Namco rep and Mii doesn't make much sense unless Mii can be meshed to any playable moveset. Almost every fake leak I see has some random character in it no one thinks will get in, so I don't see how its impossible for one person to guess it right.
Like I said, we have NO idea what so ever on what the exact words of the leak is.

For all we know it could have been
"Pac-man and Mii are still planned"
or
"Pac-man and Mii SHOULD still be on the way"

Let's say the leaker said "Should" That means leaker thinks Pac-man and Mii might be coming later than though.

The fact of the matter is, we don't know the context or the exact words used, so we can't use that to dis-credit/credit the leak.

No, Chorus Men was not guessed as playable. He was suggested as an AT, which isn't the same thing.
Not different enough to matter. That's playing semantics at this point.

He was guessed to be in the game by someone. That means they were notable that somebody thought they could actually be put into the game, which makes Chorus Men not entirely that radical of a guess anymore. Wii Fit Trainer is in the same category. Both are hard to guess, but still not impossible in the end.

Of course, that'd be funny if we find out they're an AT, and that random guy was right.

As for BKupa, that's exactly how I interpret it as, that if one person can guess it, others can. I don't see any mocking, since it's a very realistic point. Even if he was mocking it, I still agree that one guesser means other can guess too. Either a person can guess it or they can't. No inbetween. WFT was definitely guessable(as someone previously outright said they think she'll be in the game, well before Sal's Leaker leaked it), just not an easy one(understandably so).

Let's just agree that:

* The leak has holes in it. There are some things that just don't add up.
* The only thing it has going for it is Wii Fit Trainer.
* 'Pokemon from X/Y' is too vague to add credibility to the leak no matter how you try to rationalize it.
* The only thing that can debunk or confirm the leak is Chorus Men.
* There's information in there we don't know the origin acquisition of to make solid arguments for.

'cause that's what the whole of this topic seems to add up to.

That kinda sucks because Chorus Men seem like a character they would keep hidden till launch. And wouldn't a Mii/Pac-Man/etc. disconfirm debunk the leak also?

Technically, any character being disconfirmed as a fighter can too.

Also, let's remember Chorus Men is also a lucky guess that some other people made. Because clearly if anyone had knowledge before hand they could have predicted them. /s:troll:

This is honestly the only post that ever needed to be said. Until E3 or Sal says something else about it there is nothing more we can say other than this.

You and I both know that if anyone else gets deconfirmed on that list, people are going to wave it off as 'outdated news' and 'the dev floor is an ever-changing landscape, so something changed!'. Chorus Men is the undisputed linchpin in the leak. No-one can say a thing if they get deconfirmed. Nothing else comes close.

Agreed, hell, I'll even say the leak is fake if Pac-Man isn't at E3.
1.There's no way, that Sakurai would go through what ever legal loops to get Pac-Man and then just dump him.
2.They're gonna want to market and milk Pac-Man before Launch to generate hype/sales.

Its been brought up before. People were saying things like, "Well she was in between the leaks, and of course that means she's exempt from the discussion!" (Well not really, but something like that.)

* The only thing that can debunk or confirm the leak is Chorus Men.
* There's information in there we don't know the origin acquisition of to make solid arguments for.

'cause that's what the whole of this topic seems to add up to.
Thank you.

Well then, what else do we have to discuss? I mean, we've debated basically everything about the leak... so all we have to do is wait.

This doesn't make sense.

The logic behind your post is: if Shulk/Chrom/PacMan/Mii is deconfirmed, people will suggest that the leaker had "outdated information" or that it is an "ever-changing" landscape. How does this logic not apply to Chorus Men either?

If anything, the "ever-changing landscape of development" applies more to them than anyone else, considering that they are a group of 3 characters, maximizing at 12 on the screen at a time.

It doesn't matter who is deconfirmed. If ANY of the characters that Sal's leakers have claimed are in the game are deconfirmed, the leak is debunked. The concept that Chorus Men being debunked means more than Shulk being debunked makes no sense.

This. I'll believe Sal Romano if Chorus Men are confirmed, but if literally any character in the leak is debunked, the whole leak is dead (though lack of Pac-Man or Mii would kill the entire thing; anything else would just kill the second half).

Theory A: He (the leaker) saw the original E3 trailer, then leaked the newcomers. Sakurai found out, then changed the trailer

Impossible. The trailer alone would have taken a while to make, but to edit out all of the leaked newcomers and to produce a streamlined trailer in a few hours? That's a little hard to swallow.

Theory B: Another person got news of the newcomers to be shown at E3, then leaked them to Sal.

If this is true, why didn't Sal say 'may show up', instead of 'will show up'? That's all I got, as this theory could be possible.

You seem to be looking at this the wrong way. We don't know how Sal's "Tipper" got this information. My theory which is the most logical theory is that this information was simply Sakurai's ideas for characters to have in the game; Sakurai has done the exact same thing before in SSBB where he did not know which Fire Emblem Character to include so for the time being he left in his notes "Potential FE Character" then after getting ideas from the most recent FE game, he chose Ike. SAME thing aplies here for Greninja, Sakurai knew he wanted a new Pokemon Character; left in his notes "Pokemon From X and Y" then later on in Development he added Greninja.

Alright then, thanks.

How did we come across 'Potential FE character anyway?"

That would be a good and plausible explanation. If it wasn't for the fact that its ridiculous to think that someone was close enough to Sakurai that was so willing to lose his job he leaked a list of characters planned for the game. That's the stupidest thing I ever heard, unless Sakurai himself leaked it (which is also ridiculous to suggest).

No one that high in the food chain would do that. It'd have to be someone who didn't care enough about his job.
