Everyone else was either a shoo-in, or fan requested and therefore engrained in the minds of our community (apart from WFT, who it can be argued was likely due to her being from the single most successful franchise that wasn't already represented in Smash. I'm sure that if Nintendogs were Nintendo characters/creations and not real life animals, then we'd have seen a playable Nintendog, and even then they're well represented with Stages and ATs). No matter how you look at it, WFT was mainly ignored because she wasn't wanted, not because she wasn't expected (personally I thought she'd be an AT).

False. It is OFTEN done to hide weakness, but it can also just be a lack of information or the fact that somebody can't hold his hand steady.

I've read up a lot on this leak but I'm honestly shocked that people believe it. It just seems like he got some lucky guesses and then tried to make some more vague guesses in order for people to continue to believe him. He brought up a ton of characters and only half have been confirmed. He even missed returning characters and Rosalina if I remember correctly so this leak is clearly fake. There's no in between, he either knows something or doesn't and since he didn't give us all the info like someone who knows would, it's clearly a fraud.

Sakurai said that all these newcomer movies would be available to watch in the game itself, right? Doesn't that mean we'll get, well, ALL of the movies come the release of the 3DS game? What I mean is, wouldn't that imply newcomers we may not have even seen yet(Chorus Men, etc), would have viewable movies?... Unless they all got shown before release that is.

I feel like I'm beating a dead horse at this point. Taking any polar stance on this leak is unwise. =P

Remember, Sal Romano doesn't inherently know anything. He's receiving information FROM SOMEBODY ELSE. The MOST he can possibly do is relay that information, so if the information is incomplete, it's not his fault.

But it wasn't hindsight. Anyone who did even a tiny bit of research knew that Wii Fit would have a presence in the game http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_best-selling_video_game_franchises

It's the most successful franchise Nintendo has that wasn't represented in the game. I don't care what anyone says, she was NOT as unlikely as people let on. Now Chorus Men, that's a different case.

There are quite a few variables regarding these leaks anyway. Even if the first leak is true, it in no way means that the second one is. It wouldn't be the first time someone had a limited amount of information regarding the game, and then continue to give out false information afterwards. They SHOULD be treated as separate entities.

Franchises get representation without necessarily having a playable character. Animal Crossing in Brawl is the obvious example. It would have been more reasonable to guess that Wii Fit would get a stage and that's it than to guess that the mannequin woman that demonstrates exercises would be playable.

I agree with that. But it's still not unreasonable to have predicted her as a character, considering the overwhelming success that Wii Fit brought the Wii (it garnered an entirely new market of customers).

The problem is, new people continue to find this thread and require the whole process of explanation to be told to them, and as soon as those people make peace with it, then a new batch of people comes in.

I also imagine people don't read the entirety of the first post... which they really ought to do, but you know how people are. =P Even if they do read the original post, they don't always put 2 and 2 together.

It's an unending cycle.

None of Sal's posts have said "according to my leaker, these are the only newcomers in the game" (or something synonymous). So using Rosalina's absence is not a valid counterpoint for this leak.

I think in the grand scheme of things, all we can really say is that this leak has the potential to come to fruition. I don't know of any other leak or prediction that has lasted this long without being outright deconfirmed. That alone warrants some degree of cautious optimism. hopefully we'll know in less than 2 weeks.

I have no idea. What Sakurai said and what people say that Sakurai said are often two completely different things.

Philosophy isn't about arguing opinions and beliefs until you're blue in the face. This isn't a philosophical debate, anyway, it's an analysis of facts, for which a rational consensus can be reached.

Regardless, philosophical debate has a protocol for when all argument has run its course; reach a consensus, or agree to disagree (the latter generally means somebody is wrong). The purpose of all arguments should be to reach a consensus, not to prove that you're right. Anybody who can't determine that this discussion has run its course, and reached the same conclusion I did, has no hope of ever leaving this thread.

Different types of arguments yes, but the end all result is people arguing about things that cannot be proven.
(I was not trying to imply the arguments in this topic are as well though-out as philosophical ones in the least.)

Actually it is, if you don't know something you will just stay quiet, that's my point. He made one good guess but stayed vague or quiet about almost everything else.

He made a good guess, got half the characters right. I didn't know guessing half of the final four in March Madness makes you from the future. If it wasn't just a guess he would have given us Greninja and Rosalina but he didn't because it's all just BS.

He also got Villager. And even though they were easy guesses, he did get Little Mac and Mega Man. Pokemon from X/Y, although vague, counts too. So it deserves a little attention at least.

Like, it's not like I WANT to believe in this leak, there are other newcomers I want more, but it's hard to logically argue against it. WFT and Villager are just too big to be wrong.

I just hope that the 2nd leak isn't as accurate, we will see.

Just because Wii-Fit sold well did not guarantee a character. If that were the case, we would have had an Animal Crossing rep in Brawl.

I was pretty sure the Sal leak was true since he got so many (weird) characters right and stuff, but now I'm not so sure anymore with Ike confirmed. It just seems really weird to me to have three blue haired swordsmen (from the same franchise as well) in the game. I don't think Chrom will get in, but of course I could be wrong and Sakurai doesn't care about that (or maybe even finds it funny).
I hope it's wrong so characters I like more still have a better chance to get in instead of Chorus Men, Mii and some others...

There are better chances that the sources caught wind of the WFT a little before and then brought it to Gematsu, then someone having guessed her. Seriously, these forums have guessed pretty much every other character. From Ridley to Doshin. From Mewtwo to Link's Uncle from ALttP. Yet virtually no one got WFT.

That's something I'd like to bring up. Blue Haired Swordsmen are sort of the staple of Fire Emblem. While yes, there are some who do NOT have blue hair, Roy being a fine example, the ones people seem to recognize and remember, are, well, the blue haired ones. Marth, Ike, and Chrom are all very popular characters, and characters like Sigurd who are not in Smash, the lord of Fire Emblem 4 has, guess what, blue hair.

Had Roy not been in Melee, he would have faded into obscurity I feel much like Eliwood did.

I get a lot of new character requests from all over the world and they're quite an array of Nintendo characters, but I can say pretty much no one imagined this character would join the battle.

Not exactly the "I put her in because no one wanted her" that people claim, but it does support the concept that Wii Fit Trainer was not an obvious guess like many people with clear hindsight bias try to convince themselves and others.

@Goldenwhatever, I don't understand why it is so important to you to flex e-muscles. Using profanity as often as you do, calling people who believe certain things "idiotic," or whatever. Here is the ONLY fact we have: we don't know whether the leak is true or false. Your points could be as equally valid as mine. We simply don't know. If the leak is accurate, you'll come back flexing your muscles. If it is totally false, the ones who denounced it will flex theirs.

Neither my points or your points present definitive evidence either way. Like I've said multiple times now, this WHOLE debate boggles down to the concept of "which element of the leak weighs more in your mind." Your points and barbaric language doesn't change my mind, and my points will never change yours. Just do us all a favor and take a chill pill. It's. Just. A. Leak. Neither proven or debunked.

The conclusion is this:

• First half of the leak is quite likely true, but not 100%
• Second half of the leak could be either way, not enough evidence

That's all you can determine. That's it. Nothing else. Why bother trying to fight your corner?

It's possible that the tipper didn't know about Rosalina at the time of the first leak. And he didn't bother to tip Sal again until now for just one character. Or maybe he was never able to find out about Rosalina.

I didn't mean to say that the leak was true. I meant to say that you can't consider the leak to be fake because he didn't place Rosalina in the leaks. Sal never said that the leaker claimed that those and only those characters where the ones going in.

But yeah we won't be able to tell the legitness of the leak until E3 or the release of the game
