So apparently you can only have 1 Megaevolution per team.
I find that really interesting. Assuming there are enough of these and they are balanced against each other, it could make for a very interesting game. I hope if nothing else there is a Megaevolution metagame.

that could get interesting and probably would make "our job of balancing" it easier

cause i really don't wanna see a metagame of only mega pokemon

but what happens if something breaks the uber metagame?

So can we get Fire/Dragon Mega Charizard with 255 base SpA now?

i was kind of replying to the fact we only can have 1 megapokemon per team
The problem would be that the entire match would hinge around taking out the mega if their stats are really high, which would just skew the overall skill required and lead to imbalanced battling. What if your team is built around beating MegaAmpharos and lol here comes Mawile! Changes the dynamic too much, and team preview won't exactly alleviate that. Megas just don't have a place in the team unless their stats aren't raised to actual uber status, say Ampharos was taken to very strong OU, then it would be perfectly fine. Honestly I kinda wish we could have a Mega Dragonair lol, but yeah the fact is that megas will completely monopolise the metagame, the battles will hinge entirely around this weird mechanic, made even worse by only have one mega per team. Game Freak isn't very smart tbh, they just keep adding stuff and making the game more and more unbalanced lol.

As far as competitive battling goes Gen 4 was the peak, and then Gen 5 screwed things over with the addition of perma weather, weather abusers, and Volt-Turn (though I've grown to appreciate team preview). Now it looks like the downward decline will only continue with these Mega Pokemon.

Not a big fan of the Mega limitation, from a competitive standpoint. While OU will probably be fine either way, I don't think this is going to go over well for Ubers. Judging by what we've seen so far, it's likely that the top-end Mega Evolutions will be far more powerful than the current level of Ubers. For Ubers, one Mega Evolution per team is going to be like playing NU with one OU per team. It'll lead to (further) centralizing your team around one single Pokemon, which is kind of boring.

Gen 4 was really good until Platinum came out. =/

The Smogon community should just make a designated Mega Tier and call it a day, otherwise the Ubers metagame will become borderline unplayable.

So, the Mega Evolution is GF's way of insisting you designate one of your Pokémon to be the 'boss' of your party. Can't wait to see some Lv. 1 Magikarps take down the Megas.

I love the designs, but this mechanic does seem a little flimsy.

I will at least enjoy slaying these MegaPokemon while doing my Nuzlocke of this, assuming NPCs have them.

I'm not sure why anyone here is really looking at this from a competitive aspect. Even if they do manage to fit in and Smogon decides to keep them or what have you, it won't be happening unless people think it's actually for the better. This is Smogon we're talking about. They try to get rid of anything that's even marginally centralizing.

Since they are seen somewhat like the boss of your team, I wonder if this gens starters will get Megas

Since there are a lot of people that just run starters during normal gameplay. Maybe 1 or 2 other pokemon

In my gold run this time, I manage to have 5 pokemon the same level, and 1 HM slave

I just realized that Ubers is already pretty much "wait until X can sweep," where X is usually Arceus or Ho-Oh or something. Taken to an extreme, it could result in a drastically different metagame from the other tiers, which could be pretty interesting.

This is literally the same thing as having a team that weakens the other team for a sweep, but instead of us figuring out what's good to sweep with, GF is just making these Megas that are making it easier.

Also the damage from the second hit has to be at LEAST 50% from the footage. So we're not looking at 10-50% we're looking at 50-100%.

The difference is that virtually all teams and all players will have that sort of focus, as opposed to just the more clever players or just the people running Baton Pass chains, and a focus MUCH stronger than any metagame that comes to mind. Also, because Mega Evolutions only exist in battle, they won't show up in team preview (if that's even still in gen VI), which leaves plenty of room for mindgames. For example, if MegaScizor happens and is a popular sweeper, you could run a Baton Pass set to catch people off guard.

I love Megas as a concept, as is probably obvious from the avatar. Adds a new level of depth and fits with Pokemon lore of evolution occuring due to powerful energy stones. These stones just go a step beyond what was previously possible and awaken the true potential of Pokemon. More plausible as a storyline than new devolved forms of known Pokemon or new evolutionary lines popping out of nowhere without explanation.

I only play Pokemon for fun, though it seems every generation has something overpowered about it.
Learn to adapt rather than hating on fun new mechanics, that at least will give this generation something unique and more interesting than the last 2 offered.

I'm really hoping they give Khan Tail Slap. That has the potential to be a 250 base power move if it connects all 10 times, and that's before STAB.

That said I don't want to see MegaKhan's fainting animation, so I probably won't play with her to avoid the trauma.

I kind of want all my gen 1 original in game team to get Megas

Blastoise, Gengar, Alakazam, Zapdos, Dragonite ...Farfetch'd (Cause he knew fly and cut, EXP all got him to a pretty high level)

i want to see mega blastoise with like 90328403294 cannons coming out of his shell with an ability that just demolishes the opponent with water bazookas

So is that second rumored Mewtwo form actually a mega Mew?
It'd be cool to see 100/110/120/110/120/110 Mew.

Well, I'm looking forward to the mega evolutions. Mostly Mega Mawile and Mega Ampharos.

I'm also really excited for fairy types. As more information is revealed, more pokemon I like seem to be fairy type. It's starting to become my favorite type. :D

do we know if jigglypuff is becoming normal/fairy or just fairy? i mean, i'm going to assume normal/fairy but if it goes to just fairy, there's some hope for the togepi line becoming fair/flying

I think some of the birds should be retyped to just flying

Although that would make sense thematically, it might be bad gameplay-wise for Pidgey et all to lose STAB on Tackle and Quick Attack, which is like half their movepool for 20 levels.

I just find it weird everyone in the beginning of (some of) the games talk about flying types good against fighting and to use the bird pokemon against fighting gyms, but the normal type that comes with them makes them not resistant to fighting

Edit: Mega Charizard Rumor

I hope it's not true

It looks kind of dumb

Edit 2: It's definitely fake, it just uses the original charizard artwork and modifies it
