Yeah, I was thinking that he was talking about the Links using their down air on Yoshi. It was my mistake.

Dair to Nair works wonders on them, especially if they already used their 2nd jump.

Oh yeah off stage it's great. I was saying it isn't so good on stage, as Chaco referred to at one point.

I was referring to both, in general dair is good. But theirs will plummet to a quick death . So yay for Yoshi.

Uhh Toon link is prolly 4.5-5.5, no reasoning, just from tournament experience it seems to be only slightly down hill for yoshi. Good TLs cant be edgeguarded much, projectiles prevent that.

Lucas should be even, and G&W should be 4-6. That is all =)

i think its tipped in toon links favor 6:4 his bair is almost as nasty as our bair. his front air is formidable, and his nair is just as good as a sex kick. ground wise, he got us... good range and priority, and a bit quicker. he wins

I wouldn't say Toon Link beats us on the ground at all. Yoshi's down tilt and pivot grabs go past his neutral A, and all of Tink's other attacks take longer to start up.

TL isn't doing his job if he lets you get that close in front of him and give you time to dtilt. lol

o_o Are you kidding? G&W at 4? No, even if a Yoshi beats a G&W all he has to do next time is play gay to win. I've done this. G&W def is like 3-7.

Lucas I agree with.

I got one of the best G&Ws in socal down to last hit. He was playing gay.

Uair beats his dair, you can shield grab his bair, just dont play dumb.

G&W is definately 4-6.

GaW is 30:70.

He outrecovers us, outkills us, cancels out most of our moves. At least we can chaingrab characters who also do that stuff, like MK. Hell, I wouldn't even complain about a 25.

Link is 55:45, Toon Link is 40:60.

Umm no.
Just camp him the whole time, uair beats his dair, our jab beats him in close range, shield bairs and if he doesnt pull out, shield grab him.
His moves last a long time so hes quite easy to see coming.

Unfortunately, matchups dont work like that anymore =( Its not just about who "out does" the other one.

Im gonna go off my experience and say that you are wrong(for G&W i mean)

Im going off of how I play GnW and how Ive played against them. AME2 plays GnW with continuous dairs. SHd. How can you uair it if he's SHing? You really can't.

(Mmac, don't take this as an insult or anything I just need proof of my GnW against a Yoshi)

When my GnW played him not to long ago, he beat my GnW. (These were my first matches in a month mind you.) but anyways later down a few matches I started playing hardcore gay, and I started winning. I mean, if the GnW has knowledge against a Yoshi, then he always had the advantage. He has every potential to out gay us and does.

3:7.

If he's SHing, you can pivot grab or even shield grab him. I've pivot grabbed G&W out of his back air several times (in a row), actually. Try it.

I was talking dair. Which you can shield, but it pokes a bit.

Are you talking about getting poked out of your shield? Cause that doesn't happen to yoshi...

Granted it is the only good thing about his shield.

I also think its easier to bait Dairs from GnW then forward throw to egg spam for dmg building. The Bair is hard to space to grab it and not have the turtle hit you. That matchup has to be played super patient imo. Build damage safely them go for the upair to kill.

Lol I for some reason was not thinking Yoshi. I have strep right now, I blame it. But yeah anyways, it's really hard to shield grab with Yoshi. Especially against an attack such as his dair.

Hard, but not impossible. And Yoshi's pivot grab outranges both Game & Watch's back air and his down air, anyway, so a shield grab isn't really necessary.

True, but play a GnW and ask them to do continiuos dairs and see if you can do it good. I don't think it's got enough ease to be considered a key thing to do in that situation.

And I love how we're debating GnW on TL time. Haha

I C WHAT U DID THAR.

Game & Watch is a fairly popular character around here, so I do indeed see this all the time. Short-hopped down air spam isn't a huge threat to Yoshi in and of itself. Yoshi can counter it a number of different ways.

-Egg Toss Slide
-Reaction short hop neutral air
-Reaction dash attack (unreliable, but has its uses)
-Reaction dash grab (see above)
-Pivot grab
-Shield grab (if Game & Watch comes in deep)
-Down tilt
-Short hop Egg Lay
-Full hop back air

And I love how we're debating GnW on TL time. Haha
Ehh... I generally discuss what is actually being discussed, not what I'm "told" to discuss.

Add "Grounded Yoshi Bomb," "Jab," and "F-tilt" to that list, Sir 0rion. :)

As an extra note, I'm almost positive sure that we can f-smash Mr. Game & Watch out of his b-air. I've done it a few times, but I guess it's kind of risky. Still worth trying, though. (I mentioned this near the beginning of this topic.)

Why the hell is everybody talking about Game & Watch, why can't we just talk about Toon Link?

Stop driving the discussion off course!

Everything against his aerials are risky, but hey playing Yoshi as is, is a risk.

And glad you caught the key joke. lol

And back to link...

If you think it isn't easy it dair yoshi's recovery you are mistaken. I dair yoshi's maybe 1/4 of the time.

Once I learned how Yoshi's recover I can predict it easily. Throw out a few projectiles if you use up B before second jump. Most yoshis do this. Jump off after maybe 1 or 2 up b's.

Alot of Links will try to Nair Yoshi's if they use their second jump early.

I play Yoshi too. He's my counterpick to metaknight. So I think I know how he recovers.

Retreating Dair does work well at matching Yoshi's Speed (It's very long lasting). However it is easily avoided by just simply going for the Ledge.

However that said, Jumping out to Yoshi never works. Yoshi can avoid any off stage interception Link throws at him by simply Airdodging during his Double Jump.

Im just gonna say this, if you play aggresive vs G&W while he is not high above you, you are going to get owned.

Toon link is overweight. Never played a top level one tho.

I havent been on much
but i see you guys are discussing toon link still

Its kinda weird because unlike link
you can't really outspam toon link

cause he really doesn't need to charge arrow much
boomerang seems to have a bit of more range than the gale one

so you can get a few eggs in but not the same compared to link

so it's better to throw a few eggs and approach
move while you throw them

Approaching with nair is pretty safe in this match up
just don't make it so obvious or you'll get and up smash from Toon Link and those hurt...

Egg roll is worthless in this match up so really don't waste your time here
Toon link stops it easily with an arrow

Your Bair is ok in this match up
but due to Toon Link small size
Don't expect to poke much
Use it to put pressure then jab him

Your down tilt and pivot grab are good here

Your down tilt has more range than his side smash and his side tilt and his "jab"
and your pivot grab does too
so in close quarters keep that in mind

But usually Toon link's like to bair A LOT
and throw bombs
watch the bombs
throw and egg and make him regret to take out bombs

And for his bair i suggest you pivot grab

If he is using bair in air to combo
you can get out of it with air dodge it's not that hard really

don't use shield in this match up much
us yoshi users don't use that much anyway

but spot dodge and spot dodge
Shield grab is pretty dumb in this match up
cause it barely works
not many moves you can punish against toon link with a shield grab
so i don't recomend shield grabbing

Toon link's Dair
is not as great as link's

SO punish him when he misses it
He can't hold it in air so he goes straight down

If you Uair a Toon link dair right
you both get hit

I don't think yoshi's Uair wins

but chances of toon link hitting you and you not hitting him is much more probable to happen

So i don't suggest you challenge him by going under him waiting for A dair and you trying to uair him

Toon link is harder to gimp
cause he can recover easier than link
but you still can gimp him
it's probably 15% harder than link but it can be done

Overall watch the proyectiles
be patient don't make mistakes
Toon Link can punish you and pretty bad at times

It'll be easier to kill him cause he is lightweight compared to his twilight self

I believe this match up is 55:45 yoshi

I tried my best to sum up
anything i miss?
anything that you guys think differently
plz do tell :)

I disagree on the matchup,

Tinks Bair will beat any aerial yoshi has aside from the egg lay. If he rushes you down with a good combination of bairs and bombs its very hard to actually get away and attack him.

Also becareful using laggy ground moves cause you might get shield grabbed, then setup for projectile / Bair / Uair walls.

Yoshi's neutral air comes out quicker and his back air lasts longer. They hold up well against Tink.

Back air wall, meet my friend pivot grab. Pivot grab, back air wall. I'm sure you'll be the best of friends.

East Colfax, Denver
I know I've probably said this before, but we meet up sometime. Perhaps I've seen you at one of the CCCTs?

That sword beats the foot, and you can only pivot grab Tink if you are on the ground, and thats the hardest place to get back to safely with an aggressive Tink running around at you.

And yes, I know we are having a Round Robin Rankings tourney this sunday, come on out and meet the rest of us. If you live downtown / nearby at all then we have quite a few people that play almost every day together.

That sword beats the foot,
It's a disjointed hitbox, true. But you're not understanding what I'm saying. Go into training with someone (or play a match with them if you'd prefer). Have Yoshi and Tink jump at each other at the same time, Tink with the back air and Yoshi with the neutral air. See who shakes who off if you don't believe me. Tink can't WoP Yoshi, trust me on this one.

I am SOOOO not in the mood for tourneys right now, I have to tell you. I can't stress enough how burnt-out on the competitive scene I am right now, and I need to take a break from it. That, and I'm freaking unbelievably broke until Monday anyway. I'd be happy to play a few friendlies with you guys, though. I live down by Evans and Federal, if you know that area pretty well (it's a little southwest of downtown). Drop me a PM sometime and maybe we could meet up or something. :bee:

How are you burnt out on the competitive scene?

Are you hiding another Denver scene that we dont know about?

Im not saying Tink can WOP Yoshi, unless he lost his jumps, Im just saying its incredibly hard to pressure him.

And I think we might be doing friendlies on Thursday if you want to come up towards downtown.

Like I said, you've probably seen me every now and again and just don't know it. I do CCCT every once in awhile, and some of the smaller tournaments as well. Never won the big one on Brawl, but I have a couple of places and top 8s here and there. Nothing to brag about, but reasonable enough.

I had a really ****ty outing at the last CCCT a couple of weeks ago, where I lost like two straight matches that I had no business losing. And just in general, I'm tired of playing video games competitively, you know.

Im not saying Tink can WOP Yoshi, unless he lost his jumps, Im just saying its incredibly hard to pressure him.
Well, for reasons already listed, Yoshi's aerials generally have more potential to apply pressure than Tink's do. Yoshi has a few all-purpose "shrug off" moves, while Tink only has a couple of options. Don't get me wrong, Tink is by no means helpless. It's just that Yoshi tends to have more options than Tink does in a given situation. It's close to a stalemate, really.

And I think we might be doing friendlies on Thursday if you want to come up towards downtown.
Sounds cool. I have Thursday off, so I might give that a whirl. :bee:
