I recommend looking up Ligeti's other piano etudes. I really like Aimard's interpretations on this CD.

Ligeti's piano works occupy a really odd compositional niche and it's hard to recommend stuff similar to it by other composers.

On a kind of related note, are you familiar with Takemitsu? I think you might like some of his music.

A few examples:

November Steps (Part 2)
Rain Tree Sketch
Rain Tree Sketch II

Anyone know any good downtempo music? I liked the song Orbit by She, which I've heard is in the downtempo genre, if that helps as a reference as to what I'm looking for.

Wow Travis, I really liked that. Very soothing. Different from what I'm used to hearing.
Not really what you asked for buttt, maybe you'll like this

something i found today, a band called Sugar Glyder.
Kinda poppy/indie-ish, so click at your own risk.
It's the type of music for people who are more into the instrumentation of songs, not really the singing

Lol, it's obviously a matter of a opinion but the 5 DJ's i listed there are without a doubt known as some of the top DJ's in the world. The last link being the #1 DJ in the world currently.

This is much different than your generic techno, wouldn't you see generic as something like some DDR music, sandstorm, something cliche like that?

Maybe you just need to bump these songs :D Techno literally increases by like 100% awesomeness with full blasting speakers :D

I mean generic as in that all the songs seem to follow a formula.
And yes, I understand about the loud part, I should probably listen with headphones, haha.
And generic =/= cliche, but i see what you mean.

Armin Van Buuren is currently ranked the #1 DJ in the world with Tiesto at number two. It's been this way for four years now. By the way, that last song "Beautiful Things" is not by Tiesto nor was it ever mixed by Tiesto.

I can't believe you categorized Above and Beyond and Deadmau5 as "techno"... :urg:

OH ofcourse, Armin is #1, no idea how i forgot that.

I call it techno as a global term of the entire genre for people who wouldn't know the genres. I'm 100% aware that deadmau5 is house, or electro house. and i'm aware that A&B is clearly trance, which both fall under EDM, which i'm assuming casuals on SWF don't know that term.

Also, you're right about the song not being Tiesto. I've thought this ever since i heard it years ago and never even thought to question it. it's by Andain remixed by Gabriel & Dresden. Thanks :D

i just d/led the Gabriel & Dresden discography.

one song on there i wanted ( the reason i d/led it ) was the nip tuck opening theme music remix they did. it ****ing *****.

and yeah calling it techno to appease the masses just confuses people more. =D

I love the nip tuck intro alone, ima go find this remix nao.

and yeah you're right, i wasn't really trying to appease them though, i've just gotten used to saying it like that since i'm usually not ever talking about EDM in a EDM forum.

I've been getting into Mr. Bungle again lately, unfortunately youtube doesn't have many good songs for me to give as an example, but go look up their album 'California'
