how ironic I'm picking up Yoshi for some Mus that I have trouble with. Atm my egg sniping is off, but I'm still working at it. Also the mus I want my yoshi to handle are Snake, Lucas, and maybe peach.
If it doesn't work out I'll stay luigi.
Man if you were coming to the Canada tournament I could teach you the Snake MU lol. I'm surprised you need help with that MU tbh, Snake is almost my favourite MU with Luigi >.>

Teach me please. I think I should be able to go but I have to run it by my parents first before I can confirm D:

Also didn't you say something about housing people in the tourney thread?

I still chicken out after jab. /COLOR]

I do this so much. I would have won another set in doubles at MLG Houston if I had upbed instead of grabbed after the jab, and another game if not the set yesterday just to name a few.
YoshQ what characters did you use in APEX Brawl Singles?
Luigi/MK
Nah I wouldn't expect anyone to really know me (except YoshQ), I was a midwest nobody Luigi from awhile back.
Hayyy, Jdietz :D

Also, I ****ing hate luigi. I really do. He's getting so ****ing annoying to play as. I used to offset my frustration at how terrible he was by using metaknight... but now none of my secondaries are quite good enough yet to win with in tournament, so I'm kinda stuck in that spot where I have to use this ****ty ****ing character and put up with his taking 5 years to land anything close to a hit or a combo on a good character... and if I can't finish the combo, oh ****ing well... let's take 5 more years. You're gonna sit on the other side of the stage and not approach me, because you're a little bit smart or have some idea how to play the game? Well, ****... just gimme 5 years, I'll be over there in a bit. Might drop a few stocks and get frustrated in the process, but yeah, I'll be there. Trying to upb your shield or something else completely useless.

I feel your pain YoshQ :urg:

If anyone wants to advance Luigi's metagame, figure out how to get in with losing stocks/taking significant damage in the process >.>

well I need help against snakes like bizkit, fatal, or any other camping snake. I know the mu. I know I can combo snake up to 50% and probably more than that, but it doesn't help if I can't get a good fsmash or up on him if he stays away from, has a safe and easy to spam spotdodge. From this spotdodge he can follow up with either up tilt or ftilts. I have little tricks to playing against snake like ducking under grenades and jabbing snake so that he drops his grenade. But they can only do so much. Also one of my crew members uses snake so I've gotten a lot of snake mu exp from him.

For now I'll see what my yoshi can do against snake. So far it seems a lot easier as yoshi.

I feel your pain YoshQ :urg:

I've been trying to and atm only gimmicky things are helping. But then again as a player I fail at figuring out my opponent.

Well as far as furthering his metagame... I've been planning on doing an advanced techniques video for awhile. Whenever I feel like it, I'll make a thread and ****, and maybe that will help.

It's ok bro, we all feel like that sometimes (more often than not). I know I certainly did when I took a break from the game.

If I'm going to be completely honest I basically secretly plan to stop using weegee in tourney as soon as I become good enough at Toon Link/Pikachu to hold my own. It's frustrating playing a good opponent who can bait you and knows what Luigi can do.

On the other hand: the Luigi community is second to none in downright chill attitude and being cool bros, and there's something distinctly satisfying about murking scrubs with WEEEGEEEE!

Just don't feel bad about it, you're not the only one moving on a bit. Luigi still #1 in mah heart though. (and the Olimar MU)

On a metagame related note: seeing Metagame Minute's little dissertation on RCO lag gave me some hope/insight about Jab>UpB in situations where it might not otherwise be a solid option. (also it's something every Luigi should be aware of since we're on the list of recoveries for whom it affects; I had known about this with Marth, but it certainly explained a lot of things about why I was always such a target coming back on stage in certain situations as Luigi as well) http://www.youtube.com/user/VideoGameBootCamp#p/c/F52238E65D6ED18D/9/FWH-py8VENU

I went to a tourney yesterday, and I found out that my Olimar is sooo much better than my Luigi. Weegee's still fun, but I don't think I'll be using him in tournament anymore... :c

Yeah sometimes that sort of thing with Luigi is a sad truth, but at least with MK banned he gets a good boost in overall usability.

yeah I was a victim of RCO lag to. knowing that certain characters have RCO lag I try to bait them to recover on stage by grabbing the ledge then I'll follow up with up b or something. Also I've noticed this to Jabs can trigger hard landing on the opponent if they SDI down. I'm not sure if this is 100% accurate, but I tested it out and the opponent can't attack, shield, or jump. This can lead to deadly follows for Luigi especially at high percents jab to up titled fsmash.

Unfortunately it's hard to spot unless you know the animation for the characters hard landing, you won't know that you can do a certain follow up. Also I think moves in general can trigger hard landing. IE I was playing an Mk in friendlies, I shot a fireball at him while he was doing dair and he had a hard landing so I shoruykened him.

I want to know what parts of falco's phantasm this works on. That could be incredibly useful, unless it only works on the end.

That's what I wanted to know too.

As far as the video alludes it seems anything we cancel with our jab will be hard landing after RCO. I'd love to know whether jab can clank with Phantasm at all points or just where he was. Unfortunately I have no one to test this with atm, though I can try the good ol' "Player 2 with my feet" method.

'SPECIAL' RESEARCH EDIT: Ok, by going into training and using two hands on two controllers I've mildly tested this. (And I mean "tested" in the loosest, most unreliable, might-as-well-have-had-monkeys-doing-this-over-me way possible but...)

It seems like it works if you time it right. NOW, that being said: it is incredibly difficult to time (at least with only one hand and no real other person) and as such is not bulletproof at all distances, but past the second half of the distance Phantasm travels it gets substantially easier as Falco is moving for less distance total over more frames for the jab to connect properly. You can theoretically get the jab to work at a closer range, but the chances of timing it out right are slimmer (and once or twice Falco clashed through Luigi without either taking damage and simply continued on, but only very rarely). Certainly you can hit him out of Phantasm successfully from about the distance between the middle of FD and the first set of arrow like angle decals on the floor. You will also force him to undergo RCO hard landing lag if you simply jab him out of the startup of Phantasm. So all in all there's a little bit of a dead spot about where Falco Fsmash range is where it's impractical, but for things like hitting him trying to recover it looks surprisingly solid (though I was unable to coax my fingers into making Falco aerial side B AND jab him, so that may have other properties we don't know about). It will take a lot of precision, but for an Up B against a character like Falco? I'm willing to take the risk of extra damage once or twice for sure.

GETTIN' THAT METAGAME ADVANCED LIKE A BOSS

So hey guys, I was on the G&W boards lookin up some stuff for a friend of mine who plays him, and I see they have this huge in depth guide to G&W made by Omegablackmage. I totally think we should get one. I wouldn't mind putting it together, but I'd need some support on making sure all information is accurate and we have a variety of different strategies and stuff to add to the guide. Input from several Luigi's would be awesome, especially since I'm not the most experienced Brawl player out there. Just an idea, fellas. I thought it would be cool :smirk:

All the stuff that's in the Luigi boards is like 08-09. I tried the stage discussion but it kinda died off because I got swamped with work and was too lazy to edit the stuff. I'll probably breath life into it again because it was a bit useful...even if Luigi isn't the most stage versatile character.

Even recently I've used the Stage Discussion thread to help when picking stages. Helped me out quite a bit, I liked it haha :bee:

The G&W's thread has everything from the % of attacks to advanced techniques, I thought it was really cool and wanted one for us :awesome:

hmm so I was trying to see if there was anyway to setup the fireball lock to up b. Besides setting it up from a fthrow onto a platform, dair spike, or ftilt.

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OFc0wSC0jQA

I only tried this on snake and a little bit on metaknight. Basically you dthrow, do a weak nair, footstool, fast fall then fire ball lock. I believe everything has to be buffered and during the footstool don't press the jump too hard or you'll jump to high. I tried this several times on the cpu except the cpu could get up after the footstool or would sometimes just lay on the floor letting me do the fireball lock. Lets not forget the cpu is god like in reactions. At the moment this just looks like some fancy combo, but I'll try to see if I can land this on human players.

I tried coming up with another way of setting up the fireball lock, but unfortunately my plan was to do up throw to jumping weak nair to buffered fast fall dair spike. I forgot that none of Luigi's aerials can be buffered after nair at least according to Elheber's buffer chart on aerials. Also the opponent can use a move to hit luigi before he gets his nair out.

Wishing Apex 2012 happened again.
After Apex gave me motivation to give brawl one more chance so im probably gonna practice again and enter depending on school and time and money.

Prob gonna second Metaknight or Falco depending if they enforce the ban. Apex made me realize why I want to be on top and why I wanted to be ranked. I just need to find a Wii and driver license first lol.

I'm happy to hear that it actually helped. I'm not big on CP stages as I usually get screwed by them one way or another. So I try to stick to neutral/starters. Until I started maining Luigi, I never had fallback CPs. Now I have Battlefield and Lylat.

Jab -> upB. That's about how deep the well goes my good sir.

:phone:
Not factoring SDI:
:olimar: - 47%
:ivysaur: - 34%
:luigi2: - 56%

I tend to ballpark it around 60+% for other floaty characters that aren't Kirby and Jiggs. Kirby goes into crouch animation when you jab him and Jigglypuff pops up too high. :dedede: is also susceptible to SRK on Lylat sloping downward because jab pops his fat *** up. I've only seen Crash do it on the right hand, top side of the slope on Lylat.
