And since we're covering other characters ,who's the most likely third-party characters you think will get in?
My Top 3:
Rayman
Geno
Zero

Rayman, Geno, and a Namco character (probably Heihachi but might be Lloyd). Crash and Banjo & Kazooie might have a decent shot at DLC, though.

My pick for a WTF character has always been Nikki from Swapnote/Swapdoodle. Another Badge Arcade star and just the right mix of well known and obscure.
Ooh I completely forgot about her! She was someone I thought had a chance before smash Ultimate's reveal but I guess I just forgot about her. She could draw items to use and maybe even rep the badge arcade!

I forgot to mention Banjo in my third parties. He would probably be the most likely after Geno, Simon, and Rayman but probably not in the base game. There are already so many third party characters that the Smash team had to get a hold of so I doubt we'll get more than one more third party fighter before DLC .

Wario isn't in Smash to represent Warioware or Wario Land, he's here to represent HIMSELF. As he appears in both series. The shoulder charge dash attack and ground pound down throw are pretty much everything he needs to represent the latter, so the rest is taken by Warioware and general Wario stuff like farting, which is part of his character in both series. Unless you want two separate Warios like the Links, he isn't ever going to play exactly like he does in any given series.

As far as Ashley doing the microgame representing, while the ideas mentioned here sound neat from a gameplay perspective, I don't think it's really necessary. Summoning the other Warioware characters also doesn't really seem in-character for Ashley to do, unless done as an accident in trying to summon something more demonic or monstrous, say a low percent chance of it happening. She has more than enough potential as her own character for a moveset, I don't see why she has to be shackled by the mechanics of the series she happens to be a part of, beyond cameos and small references.

Still, at the end of the day I won't mind whatever route they decide on in making Ashley, as long as she is recognizable for who she is.

I can stretch this. Ashley may not be one to rely on friends, but she could see it as using them as tools, similar to how she treats Red. It would be a nice way to show that part of her character.

Y'know, for an Ashley support thread, we're covering a wide range of characters here.
People are getting bored from the information drought. Add to that we've had some people who don't sing Ashley's inclusion as gospel and come into the thread saying why they think it WON'T happen without having any positive words about it, that makes things a little rocky. Basically things will probably start going downhill from here until Nintendo decides to grace us with a trailer for a character no one wanted and then wants us to bow down and kiss their feet for it.

I get the feeling Red is a special case, being her familiar and shapeshifting into literal tools for her and all. She just expects a lot from him, which I don't really see with anyone else. Only in her debut did she try to use Orbulon as one (ingredient), but she hasn't done so since. More likely she simply doesn't want others to get involved in her craft, which she knows is dangerous and scary to anyone without proper training.

She helps out a demon in Gold (which she apparently only summoned just to see if she could) without trying to get or demand something out of him for her services. YMMV on whether it's genuine kindness or just an opportunity to challenge herself, but reassuring and allowing the demon to stay in the mansion dring her absence seems to point to the former.

I think it's a bit of both between wanting to help the demon and trying to test herself. That shows that she has some good in her, but I don't think she applies her good natured self most of the time. Just based on how scared of Ashley Red is seen to be and her debut where she tries to kidnap Orbulon, she doesn't seem sensitive to other people. Therefore, I don't think she would be concerned if the others offered to form a link with her so she could summon them, even if it is dangerous.

Your guess is as good as mine
Well... I have a good 78 pages to skim-read through of my fifth most wanted, and many others. Glad to see the love and support for Ashley is strong!

Quick question(s) regarding Ashley's implementation though, which may or may not have already been brought up in this thread, but what is everyone thoughts concerning how much Ashley's move-set needs to reference the world and games of WarioWare? Do you believe all her spells need to reference WarioWare/should she have a mechanic referencing gameplay elements of WarioWare (such as the quickfire nature of their microgames) or do you think that it'd fine emphasising her character of a spellcasting witch without having to worry about how the moves tie-in to WarioWare?
I'd say they should just stick with the general Witchy motif and go from there. Warioware Microgames are all over the place in terms of a consistent style, and out of potential WW reps Ashley isn't the best choice to show off the zany antics of the microgames, nor do I think such a concept needs to be added to Ashley when she has the perfect debuffing witch thing that's staring everyone right in the face.

Ashley should represent her Witch Motif instead of the WarioWare games. Having a total Witch Mage is something Smash has never had and Ashley would perfectly fit that role.

Yeah, Sakurai is really taking his time. No new stages, assists, characters or modes and it's already been a month with 5 left to go. At the very least we'll get a surge in activity once Gold comes out, even if no extra Smash news come in. Lots of newcomer threads are even slower than this one and aren't blessed with as relevant a character, so I'm grateful for the discussion we still have even if it's been less optimistic as of late.

TBH if a WarioWare character were to get the "summon other WW characters to help fight" moveset it would fit best with Mona.

Ashley should stick with magic.

Some things to consider about that Orbulon encounter, 1. she was already very mad at him for bumping into her and possibly wasn't thinking straight, and 2. as I said earlier, this is a very early appearance whose traits should be taken with a grain of salt unless evidence of them continues to pop up in later games. Orbulon, as well as the creatures that she fights off in Gold are also very scared of an angry Ashley. Who wouldn't be?

Characters can change, and after all that effort Nintendo has put in marketing Ashley to be as cute and endearing as possible in the Badge Arcade, it seems unlikely that they want her to be seen as unsympathetic. The one constant she has shown is that she never approaches anyone first, whether to help or antagonize them. This is why she is seldom seen helping others; it's due to her shyness, not a lack of concern for others... but she probably does put that up as a front so that people don't bother her much. Her co-workers likely know her and what she does, by reputation or otherwise, so any agreement between Ashley and them would be founded on mutual understanding. Again Red is the exception because she needs him to do basic witchcraft.

The worst thing you can say about Ashley is that she has a vice in wrath, getting very angry a bit too easily and reacting violently if no one is there to calm her.

I think that's a good explanation as to why she has a more a helping personality in a meta sense. To me it just looked like she matured along with her voice. It makes enough sense that I'm willing to look past the questionable stuff she did in the past.

And you could be right about it not making sense for her to summon because Ashley hasn't established enough trust with her coworkers. Literally any group shot she's in, except for Gold, she either in a corner, looking away or not reacting at all.

For that reason, I hope that if we do get an Ashley reveal trailer, it's in the form of a party at Warioware Inc celebrating Ashley making it in to Smash. It would give an excuse to have Ko Takeuchi animate it, while being a really wholesome scene of everyone supporting Ashley that breathes character to the series as a whole. It could also lead into that summoning thing I talked about.

I'm very glad I've found this forum. I never realized how bad I want Ashley to be playable in Smash Ultimate until now. I became a supporter literally just a few days ago when WarioWare Gold videos started popping up, one of which was Ashley's opening cut scene and the brief footage of her new minigame.

Damn am I glad Andre decided to go with Ashley's microgames over the others.

I went through a similar thing but it was when I found out Ashley didn't show up as an assist. For 2 weeks, I was scrounging for Reddit threads that just mention Ashley's name before I found this place with 600 posts of pure Ashley. I thought I hit a gold mine at the time, I can't imagine how you must feel when we're 3000 posts deep now. Anyways, welcome aboard, chum!

Thanks for having me! I'm basically going through the same thing. From watching multiple videos discussing her chances, and even searching through twitter about it. I've visited this forum a few times but I never realized how huge it was, and it just makes me very happy to see so many other people share the wish for Ashley to be playable.

I know what you mean. Up until the announcement back in the March direct I had completely forgoten about Ashley until I went through the list of most likely characters from each series. When I got to WarioWare I was reminded of Ashley and her AT and Mii outfit which lead me to thinking she was likely but, that was just the tip of the iceberg. This thread really shows you just how deep the rabbit hole goes.

I used to think Mona was undeniably my favorite and I was (still am, really) gunning that she'd make an appearance outside WarioWare either playable in a Mario spin-off or Smash. Her association with Wario should be explored more.

But in the end, Ashley's personality won out when I went back and explored the series' characters more. She can be angry, she can be unbelievably apathetic, she can be lonely, and she can be commanding. It's very multi-faceted and I love it.

I'm still skimming through the very early pages of this thread. It truly is a journey

That's one thing I've noticed about myself lately. I usually cater towards the villains, anti heroes and other Ashley-esque characters

I think this is the first time I've woken up and there have been no new replies to this thread rip. Anyways, are we still expecting a direct before Warioware Gold's release? It seems like Nintnedo has already revealed a lot of info on the game and we have a demo. There is still the possibility of the wario land vb remake and the links awaking remake from that leak though, right? I'm under the impression the leak was real, so maybe they'd have the direct on Gold's release date so they can say it's available now and then also reveal Warioware Switch and then Ashley? Probably not, but it'd be awesome.

I am confident that the leak is legit, with that out of the way, I don't think they would try to undercut Gold's success by announcing a Warioware for the Switch upon its release.

The next major direct will probably show off those Wario titles. What that means for Ashley is that she's either getting confirmed close to Gold's release or when announcing those games. Of course there's still the mine field that is the smash site blog, but I'm keeping my confidence. The moment we see Isabelle and Shadow getting deconfirmed, I'll probably start my panicking.

Yeah, we've burnt thought the E3 hype and are now going through the news drought phase. It's looking like no Nintendo direct for the rest of July, however, I remain optimistic for August. An Ashley reveal for August could still boost publicity post Gold release.

I was thinking the same thing. Actually, If Shadow and Isabelle are revealed as ATs it would boost my confidence for Ashley being playable.

When we start seeing ATs being revealed I will admit I probably will be paranoid at first but, as we go down the list and Ashley still isn't revealed to return as an AT I'll feel I think it's a sign she's going to be playable.

Right now we have repeating information on the Smash blog, so it's pretty chill right now. When they start rolling out deconfirmations, that's the point where we should be getting worried if Ashley is next on the chopping block. Although, Like FBC said, it would be a pretty exciting time as well for Ashley hype.

Agreed. It's always a scary thought but yet exciting at the same time. Only time will tell what happens to our Ashley, just hope for the best

I feel like other ATs being disconfirmed could go either way on being a good or bad sign for Ashley. In Shadow and Isabelle's case, they likely have pretty similar popularity to Ashley, and seeing both fail to become playable could eliminate competition for an AT like Ashley to get promoted. Though it might also mean ATs didn't get a lot of voter support since they already had defined roles in Smash 4.

I think it's less about "who were the most popular ATs?" since there is no specific quota on how many need to get promoted. Rather, it's more about "who were the most popular characters in general?". If Ashley, Shadow, and Isabelle all had large fan support, then they may all become playable anyways.

The only way Shadow and Isabelle wouldn't be made playable in this instance is if there would only be time to include them as Echos but Sakurai felt it didn't fit their characters.

IGN uploaded a video of WarioWare Showing 5-Volt's games. This is interesting considering the fact that 5-Volt has never had her own microgame section in any of the previous WarioWare titles.

Gold is pulling out all the stops and it's looking super promising. Love having 5-Volt get more attention and especially love an opportunity for even more Nintendo cameos (Fire Emblem microgame hype!).

Personally, I don't see too much correlation between Ashley's promotion and the fate of Assist Trophies like Isabelle. Ashley has always stood as a potential unique inclusion, while characters such as Isabelle, Shadow, and Dark Samus have seen a topical surge in popularity because of how potentially easy it would be to shoehorn them in as Echo Fighters later in development. By the time we find out that Isabelle is an Echo Fighter of Villager, we'll probably already know Ashley's fate.

The only Assist Trophy whose fate could possibly be tied to Ashley's in some way is Kat & Ana. While both were present in Smash 4, neither have been revealed yet, and if Kat & Ana were to be revealed as an Assist Trophy while Ashley is still MIA, then it'll get people thinking, possibly setting fans up for a potential Ashley reveal down the line.

Right now, I'm just bracing for what might be posted on the Blog on August 3rd. It could be really promising, or really bad news for us ... or it could be the re-confirmation of something we already saw at E3, yet again. At this rate, it'll be the third one.

I don't remember her even being a character prior to Game & Wario, at most just a background presence as a nameless ''9-Volt's mom''.

That game really does sum up my feelings to the Wii U as a whole: by and large poorly received, but still responsible for delivering old & new gems (Ashley's hair styling & Gamer for the former, Splatoon & Smash for the latter).

I don't think the Warioware Inc. stage has been covered in a blog post yet, so that's what I hope gets revealed. Also, the game first comes out on the 27th and then on August 3rd elsewhere, so we could potentially be seeing two different Warioware related updates. That could be a good or bad thing lol. Ideally a direct happens before then though, and Ashley is revealed there. Also, considering the Gamer minigames is back in Gold, that stage could also be revealed.

So I don't know if any of you have heard, but thanks to a Spanish Nintendo website listing, we may have insight on when the next Nintendo Direct may be, the 3rd of August.

Let's hope we get our witch!

Right now, I'm just bracing for what might be posted on the Blog on August 3rd. It could be really promising, or really bad news for us ... or it could be the re-confirmation of something we already saw at E3, yet again. At this rate, it'll be the third one.
Has Wario gotten a "Fighter of the Day" update yet? If not, I expect the update that day to be him.

Literally the release date for Wario Gold.

Well, hopefully the anticipation will come to fruition sooner than expected, haha.

I haven't heard anything about this. Is there some sort of link or something you can direct me to (no pun intended)?

Nothing Wario-related has been covered on the Blog, if I recall.
