The only time they've announced a character in a region exclusive Direct is when Shulk was announced in a Japan-only Direct, and that was only because he's not nearly as big in the west as he is in Japan.

It could've, considering the ESRB leak came out just 10 days before Shulk's announcement, but it's never been confirmed.

Nope. I have no idea why they decided Europe should get the game earlier than both Japan and NA. Never heard of it being more popular over there.

I didn't think her new voiced lines in G&W were hers. She says "Red" and gives a breathy "woah" but they were so small I thought an intern did them or something. But if that's her then yeah, shes probably in Gold. Yay.

Say, am I crazy for remembering an instance of Ko Takeuchi retweeting a fan expressing interest in Ashley to be Smash and unretweeting it afterwards? I'm completely positive the retweet happened at least, but I'd like confirmation.

Ashley is a character I hadn't considered as a Smash fighter until relatively recently, though I've always liked her and now she's one of my top 2 most wanted characters.

In the context of WarioWare's gameplay, each character has their own little side stories, with each character being about as important as the next. But many consider Ashley to be the breakout character due to her noticeably different personality and motif, which sticks out like a sore thumb in a franchise of wacky and rather one-note characters, lending her a pretty sizeable fanbase. Obviously, both Ko Takeuchi (the series character designer) and Nintendo themselves see her potential as a company poster child, which is why she became just that multiple times during the 3DS's lifespan.

Tl;dr Her character stands out amongst her wackier and simpler co-stars. Simple as that.

On that note, he has only done that with Ashley and no other character of his. So he would enjoy his character in Smash or better yet, is covering up the fact she's in the game.

Ah-ha: I just remembered the first WarioWare game I played, that being WarioWare: Smooth Moves!. I think that explains how I got used to the franchise and by extension got to know Ashley in her minigame section.

Smooth Moves was also my first WarioWare. I loved the Icarus multiplayer mode. Still one of my favorite games to play with my friends to this day (other than Smash, of course). I'd love a spiritual successor on the Switch that better fleshes out those motion controls.

While I agree with you, overall, I think Ashley's eyes turning from black to red (and hair from black to white) when spellcasting makes her look more dynamic.

I don't think I can dig up a tweet from that long ago (and even then Ko already unretweeted it) but we already got verification from someone else here saying that did actually happen and it's not just me.
