As you can see this is a match up thread for the Link boards. Here we talk about the different components to each match up, no matter how infrequent. Got a question about a match up? First thing, don't get stuck on FD or DL 64 (a lot of stages are bad, but those are the worst). Sheik can chaingrab you easily there. FoD is pretty solid, same with battlefield. RBC should be used if you feel comfortable there.
Second, don't go into the game with the mindset of "if I lose I'll just john about how bad the counter is". You lost (if you lose) because you weren't good enough. Stop complaining about Link, you picked him. I'm not saying Link is good, he sucks, but don't ***** about it.
Third, play the game. It's simple. Know your spacing and what Sheik can do. Abuse everything Link has while trying to make the Sheik play a more defensive game. Sheik sucks at being defensive. Tap Sheik's shield with nairs/fairs (spaced as to avoid grabs) and jab when you land. Crouch cancel everything until they start to downsmash. Once they start to downsmash shield and grab once you get pushed out of range/the move ends. If they approach with grabs spot dodge or hit them.
Fourth, DI correctly. Good DI is away from Sheik. Away and up or away and down, depending on % and the move used. Of course, DI the fair up and towards the stage.
Fifth, recover. Oh no, Needles! Dodge through them and hookshot. You don't have to hookshot right after the dodge. You have a bit of time to fall before using the hookshot. Use the dodge to pass through the needles/edgeguard and then hookshot the stage. Going low and sweetspotting the spin works well. Be ready the tech the nair/bair that will hit you though (failure to do so results in loss of stock).
Sixth, edgeguard. Throw things to stop Sheik's momentum and then get on the edge. Ledgehop a dair when Sheik lands on the stage, except at low %s where a grab may be in order.
Seventh (man this list is long), combo. It's easy, it should take maybe two combos before Sheik is off the edge at a killing %. Once off the edge it is easy to land a powerful killing move/edgeguard.
That's pretty much all the same stuff I say today too. Yay 2007 Skler!
Sheik's needles are probably the most annoying projectile to Link. It kills all of his options to camp because they knock away everything. Boomerang can be sent back by just a jab, arrows are kinda pointless, bombs die to needles. Bombs can get in if sent from an above angle. That way Needles don't hit them. Then Sheik will be forces to either dodge the bomb, catch the bomb, or shield the bomb.

Projectile spam your *** off. don't be afraid to let the clock run out, and try you're hardest to run to keep out of grab range.
ban final destination. try to get pkmn stadium as the first level (use your stage strike if necessary) Jabs and Nairs are important. avoid laggy moves at all costs (including grabs) throw in a skrah every now and then, but be smart with it.
if you lose a match, your best counter picks would be rainbow cruise and stages with a wall. (so that you can wall tech out of the chain grab)

but try your best not to fight him directly. and the reason i suggested jabs is because they are quick and will kill momentum.
and yes, he will often go for running grab. so if you're in a bad situation, Nair your way out of there.

lolutilts, although spaced nairs will trade hits. Almost anything can eat through his raptor boost iirc (jabs, utitls, nairs, fairs). Btw utilts. Turn around and let him come to your utilt

ness has a big head SO STAB THAT water melon! Dthrow to dair is a great way to kill this kid. Also, edge hog so you force him topside when he recovers then skull **** his head
